Chapter 132: Treasure Crimson Chain
Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Treasure Crimson Chain
Feeling a little disappointed, Xu Qingsui casually flicked the silk ribbon in her hand.
But this careless motion had an unexpected effect. The ribbon, once soft and limp in her grasp, suddenly gained a rigid structure, becoming as hard as iron in an instant.
It felt heavy and substantial in her hand, like a rigid staff.
Moreover, while the part she gripped felt no different, the edges of the ribbon’s length glinted with a cold light, like the edge of a sharpened blade.
Deciding to test it, she casually swung the ribbon at a nearby chair.
When the ribbon made contact, it sliced through the chair as easily as a hot knife through butter, cleaving it in two.
The ribbon’s sharpness sent a jolt of shock through her.
She held the ribbon up to her eyes. The cold glint remained, yet when she tried touching the edge with her finger, all she felt was the same soft, silky texture.
After a moment’s pause, she quickly touched other parts of the ribbon. No matter how she handled it, it didn’t harm her in the slightest.
Yet when she swung it at anything else, the target would be effortlessly cleaved in two.
After a few more tests, Xu Qingsui’s eyes widened in disbelief.
’I’m not sure what this weapon is called,’ Xu Qingsui thought, ’but I can tell it’s anything but simple.’
Xu Qingsui was instantly smitten and couldn’t put it down. After examining it for a long while, she gave it another flick, and once it turned soft again, she tied it around her waist.
It looked just like a decorative sash—light, portable, and capable of a surprise attack when it mattered most.
For Xu Qingsui, discovering this ribbon was a delightful, unexpected windfall.
’I can’t believe the rewards for clearing instances in this world are this good.’ She was already starting to look forward to what she might get next.
Xu Qingsui eagerly tied the ribbon around her waist, then admired her reflection in the mirror. The longer she looked, the more she liked it.
Just as Xu Qingsui was delightedly admiring her new weapon, Lu Jingyu knocked and entered.
Seeing the broken furniture in the room, Lu Jingyu’s expression darkened. He rushed over to Xu Qingsui, grabbing her by the arms and looking her over carefully.
"What happened? Did Xie Qingling come looking for trouble again? Did she attack you? Are you hurt?"
Lu Jingyu was frantic, his gaze so intense as he examined her that it was as if he were trying to see right through her.
Xu Qingsui was a bit dazed by his barrage of questions. It took her a moment to process them before she quickly pulled free from his grasp.
"No, don’t worry, I’m fine. I was just sorting through my rewards from clearing the last few instances and found a weapon that suits me. I lost control a bit while testing it out and damaged the furniture. I can pay for the damages."
Only then did Xu Qingsui remember she was staying with the Alliance. She’d gotten a bit carried away while testing her new toy.
Hearing her explanation, Lu Jingyu could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
If Xu Qingsui hadn’t explained so quickly, he would have already gone to hold Xie Qingling accountable.
At that moment, Xu Qingsui untied the silk ribbon from her waist and presented it to Lu Jingyu. With his distinguished background, he was bound to be knowledgeable.
She was very curious about the ribbon’s origins.
Just then, Lu Jingyu’s eyes finally fell on the ribbon, and a flicker of astonishment crossed his face.
He had been so worried before that he’d completely overlooked it.
But that surprise was quickly followed by a hint of confusion.
Noticing Lu Jingyu’s surprised expression, Xu Qingsui knew he must recognize the ribbon, which made her all the more expectant.
But his subsequent confusion puzzled her as well.
Meeting Xu Qingsui’s questioning gaze, Lu Jingyu began, "This is indeed an excellent weapon. Weapons are divided into six grades: Top Grade, treasure, fine, authentic, No Grade, and substandard..."
Xu Qingsui’s eyes twinkled. She remembered Chen Yunfei saying that Lu Jingyu’s Tan Lang was a Top Grade weapon. She knew that must be a high rank, but she hadn’t realized it was the absolute highest.
"For example, that weapon Shen Ling’an had was a fine grade. Most weapons classified as fine grade have some renown. His, for instance, was rumored to be the first weapon of an SS level Sentinel."
Xu Qingsui nodded, growing more curious about her own ribbon’s grade. Her expectations weren’t high; she would have been more than satisfied if it was a fine grade.
"This ribbon of yours is a treasure grade," he continued. "If I’m not mistaken, it was forged by the sole female Weapon Master for her own use. It’s called the Crimson Chain. But that Weapon Master vanished long ago, and no one knew who ended up with the Crimson Chain."
Xu Qingsui’s pupils constricted in shock. She never imagined the ribbon had such an incredible history, far exceeding her wildest expectations.
"So what you can’t figure out," she inferred, "is why this Crimson Chain was given to me as a reward?"
Lu Jingyu slowly shook his head. "Instances do give out weapons as rewards, but I’ve never heard of one being this high grade."
"Besides, the Crimson Chain was a personal item. Even if the Weapon Master is long gone, it should have been passed down as an heirloom to her descendants or into the hands of someone who found it by chance. It shouldn’t be possible for it to be distributed as a reward."
Seeing his words make Xu Qingsui look troubled as well, Lu Jingyu quickly tried to reassure her. "Don’t overthink it. I’m just talking about the normal state of affairs. Maybe there was some kind of glitch in the system that awarded it to you."
"But regardless, it must be fate that you received this weapon. I should be congratulating you!"
Lu Jingyu’s words did a lot to dispel Xu Qingsui’s concerns.
She nodded, then suddenly remembered the handgun Lu Jingyu had left with her. She quickly pulled it out and handed it back to him.
"I know you gave this to me mainly so I could defend myself if I ran into danger. But now that I have the Crimson Chain, you should take it back."
Lu Jingyu hesitated for a moment but still took the handgun back.
But before he could put it away, Xu Qingsui’s next words made him freeze.
"Oh, right. I need to say goodbye. Zone 9 has been purified, so I’m preparing to head to other zones."
Some things have to be said sooner or later, and Xu Qingsui wasn’t one to procrastinate. With Lu Jingyu right there, she decided to just come out and say it.
"Why? Isn’t it safer here?" Lu Jingyu asked, clearly agitated.
"But I can’t improve myself by hiding in a safe place!"
Lu Jingyu was left speechless. After all, when he first convinced Xu Qingsui to join the Heiyu Alliance, he knew she could leave at any time.
But he didn’t want to just watch her go. ’There’s so much I still haven’t said, but this isn’t the right time or place for it anymore.’
Looking at Xu Qingsui’s determined gaze, Lu Jingyu said thoughtfully, "Just now, the two elders, Yun Fei, and I were also discussing how Zone 9 is no longer suitable for the Alliance’s development. We’re thinking of moving the Alliance’s headquarters to another region. Perhaps... we could travel to another region together."
