Chapter 114: Black Cat Apocalypse
Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Black Cat Apocalypse
He was betting Lu Jingyu wouldn’t sit idly by this time. As long as someone was there to clean up his mess, even if he himself couldn’t resolve the situation, he could at least save his own skin. He had the perfect excuse: he had just dealt with a snake-like Mutant, and his body hadn’t fully recovered yet.
With his excuse prepared, Shen Ling’an immediately rushed to the scene.
Lu Jingyu and Xu Qingsui followed the assembled team and arrived at the scene.
A much larger snake-like Mutant was continuously sending the surrounding Alliance members flying.
Before, the two had only heard Meng Donghua’s description of the snake-like Mutant. Seeing it now with their own eyes, they finally understood just how shocking it was.
They didn’t know if it was a unique trait of this particular Mutant, or if Meng Donghua had simply failed to mention it.
On either side of this Mutant’s head, there were organs that looked like fish fins.
Whenever the fins fluttered, a shower of fine needles would shoot out. Anyone struck by them would collapse, overcome by a potent venom.
Many team members fell to the ground without even a chance to fight back.
The infirmary was already overflowing. If this continued, there would be no place to put the wounded.
Lu Jingyu’s eyes turned red. An energy wave immediately radiated from his body as he launched himself toward the Mutant.
Seeing Lu Jingyu charge forward, Xu Qingsui hesitated, wanting to follow.
Before she could move, she felt a strange sensation at her feet.
Xu Qingsui looked down, and a black figure came into view.
"Apocalypse!" Xu Qingsui was a little surprised to see the kitten she had personally delivered from a mutant cat and then adopted.
Perhaps because of his Mutant bloodline, Apocalypse had grown to the size of a normal adult cat not long after birth.
Normally, Xu Qingsui didn’t need to worry about him. He would go out for a stroll on his own every morning and evening, returning at night to sleep by her side.
When she had left earlier, Apocalypse was already out. She hadn’t expected to run into him here.
Though worried about Lu Jingyu, Xu Qingsui still crouched down and stroked Apocalypse. "Apocalypse, it’s dangerous here. You go back first. I’ll be back to keep you company later."
"MEOW!" Whether he understood Xu Qingsui’s words or not, Apocalypse meowed and rubbed his face against her hand.
Xu Qingsui gave him a couple more pets, then looked back toward Lu Jingyu.
She saw Lu Jingyu making a beeline for the Mutant’s head, his usual dagger already in hand, its cold glint aimed at one of the Mutant’s eyes.
The Mutant didn’t dodge. The two of them collided head-on.
But at the moment of impact, the Mutant tilted its head. Lu Jingyu’s dagger went askew, striking the Mutant’s hard scales.
CLANG!
It was impossible to tell what the scales were made of, but they produced the sound of metal striking metal and kicked up a shower of sparks.
The Mutant displayed an agility that belied its clumsy body. With a whip of its massive head, it slammed directly into Lu Jingyu.
The distance was too short. Lu Jingyu had no way to dodge and could only raise his arms to block the Mutant’s attack.
As expected, Lu Jingyu was sent flying like a kite with a broken string.
Xu Qingsui’s eyes followed him, and as if predicting where he would land, she ran there ahead of time.
Lu Jingyu landed right at her feet. Just as Xu Qingsui was about to help him up, a foul-smelling wind howled toward them.
The two looked up to see the Mutant charging at them, baring its sharp, venomous fangs and letting out a piercing shriek from its throat.
As the Mutant closed in, Lu Jingyu’s eyes saw only Xu Qingsui beside him.
Suddenly, a massive energy wave erupted from his body, black markings rapidly spreading across his skin. He swept Xu Qingsui into his arms and shot into the air, flying into the distance.
Sensing the change in Lu Jingyu, Xu Qingsui met his gaze, his pupils now veiled by a black aura.
Lu Jingyu had gone berserk!
’Logically, Lu Jingyu shouldn’t have gone berserk so quickly just from fighting the Mutant.’
Xu Qingsui knew in her heart that he had forced himself into this state to save her.
Xu Qingsui couldn’t help but blame herself. She quickly placed her hand on Lu Jingyu’s forehead.
’Although a berserk Lu Jingyu might be the only one who could fight this enraged, vengeful Mutant right now...’
’...letting him enter this state now could cause him to become permanently berserk, a state from which even she couldn’t wake him.’
Unwilling to risk Lu Jingyu’s safety, Xu Qingsui started releasing her spiritual power to soothe him without a moment’s hesitation.
Sure enough, after receiving her soothing, the berserk aura around Lu Jingyu quickly receded. Still holding Xu Qingsui, he slowly descended to the ground.
But stopping Lu Jingyu’s berserk transformation didn’t stop the Mutant’s attack.
The moment they landed, the Mutant bared its venomous fangs and swooped down on them.
The surrounding team members were all frozen in place by this scene. Some even closed their eyes, unable to watch what was about to happen.
The hastily arriving Shen Ling’an didn’t miss it either. Seeing the intimate display between Lu Jingyu and Xu Qingsui, he secretly clenched his fists.
Watching the Mutant’s ferocious charge, he forgot his purpose for coming—to protect his image and solidify his position as Captain Shen.
He stood blankly behind the crowd, waiting for the scene of splattering blood.
Xu Qingsui looked at the now-slumbering Lu Jingyu and completely gave up struggling.
’Honestly, after dying and having my soul transmigrate into this Apocalypse for a second chance, I’ve already come out ahead.’
’If today is really my day to die, it’s not such a big deal. Besides, this time, I have such an excellent person to accompany me.’
MEOW!
Just when everyone thought the outcome was sealed, a sharp, piercing meow rang out.
Subsequently, a black figure appeared between Xu Qingsui, Lu Jingyu, and the Mutant.
Xu Qingsui looked over, her face full of confusion. For a moment she was dazed, then her eyes widened.
’The black cat!’
’It’s Apocalypse!’
At some point, Apocalypse’s body had magnified several times over. Though not as large as his parents, he was now only a size smaller than the snake-like Mutant.
He now stood protectively in front of Xu Qingsui, his single cry having halted the Mutant’s attack.
The Mutant was perhaps confused by this sudden development, but after pausing to look around for only a moment, it charged again.
When the Mutant straightened its snake-like body and reared its head, the enlarged Apocalypse seemed a bit smaller in comparison.
But Apocalypse didn’t panic. He remained in front of Xu Qingsui, awaiting the Mutant’s attack.
Apocalypse’s sudden appearance made all the surrounding team members turn their gazes back to the fight.
Although they weren’t sure what was happening, everyone wanted to know: could this black cat really handle the vengeful Mutant?
HISS!
A hiss-like roar came from the Mutant’s throat. The fins on the sides of its head fluttered as it charged swiftly toward Apocalypse.
Countless poison needles flew at him first. Apocalypse raised a paw and, with a casual swipe as if wiping his face, deflected the needles, sending them flying off in another direction.
