Chapter 109: The Onlooker Sees Clearly
Chapter 109: Chapter 109: The Onlooker Sees Clearly
"You don’t want to see either Lu Jingyu or Elder Chen get hurt, do you!"
Chen Yunfei had already started to slow down, but after hearing her words, he finally came to a complete stop.
"Are you really here to help me?"
Xu Qingsui nodded. "I have no way to prove it to you right now, but once you wake up, you’ll know whether I’m telling the truth."
Chen Yunfei lowered his head, silent, as if considering whether to trust Xu Qingsui.
Seeing the shift in his mood, Xu Qingsui quickly asked, "Can you tell me why you’ve sealed yourself in here? Are you constantly reliving this memory?"
Xu Qingsui’s words seemed to strike a tense chord within Chen Yunfei. He snapped his head up to look at her, his eyes bloodshot. "Someone is trying to kill me!"
Xu Qingsui’s heart sank. Suddenly, a few things clicked into place. "So that’s why you attacked me on sight. You thought I was the one trying to kill you?"
Chen Yunfei nodded, his mind seemingly slow to respond. He mumbled, "All this time, I’ve been searching for the person who’s trying to kill me, but I haven’t found anything. You’re the first person to break in here, so I thought it was you..."
Xu Qingsui took a deep breath. Lu Jingyu had said they’d hired many guides over the years to break Chen Yunfei’s mental block, but it seemed she was the only one who had successfully entered his Spiritual World.
"Why don’t you leave this place? You could go back to the real world and have Elder Chen and Lu Jingyu help you investigate."
Chen Yunfei suddenly gave a wretched smile. Instead of answering, he walked toward the golden gate Xu Qingsui had used to enter, all under her watchful gaze.
The gate was still there, but when Chen Yunfei tried to walk through it, it was like stepping into a watery mirage. The gate rippled like the surface of a pond.
"At first, I wanted to leave and find out who set me up. But I discovered I couldn’t get out. I think the person who did this must have tampered with something."
"Since I couldn’t leave, I started trying to figure out who wanted to kill me. I thought finding that person was my only hope of getting out of here, but..."
Chen Yunfei’s expression turned savage. He suddenly clutched his head, his face contorting in agony.
"I’ve been replaying what happened over and over, but I haven’t found anyone suspicious. Who was it? Who did this to me?"
Chen Yunfei’s emotions began to spiral out of control. He looked like he could break down at any moment.
Alarmed, Xu Qingsui quickly stepped forward and placed her hand on Chen Yunfei’s forehead.
Noticing her movement, Chen Yunfei instinctively tried to pull away.
But he was a step too slow. A cool sensation flowed from Xu Qingsui’s palm and seeped into his mind.
His agitated emotions were instantly soothed. Even his entire spirit body felt a sense of relief.
Feeling the comfort she provided, Chen Yunfei completely let down his guard and allowed her to soothe him.
Once his emotions had completely stabilized, Xu Qingsui voiced her question.
"You keep saying someone is trying to kill you, but you’ve never found them. So how are you so sure about this?"
"I..." Chen Yunfei began slowly, his gaze drifting into the distance as if recalling the past. "I remember a guide was soothing me that day. But just as my mind was starting to stabilize, the guide sensed danger."
"He warned me, and we paused the soothing. That’s when I saw the Mutant charging at us. Even though I only saw the Mutant, I felt another presence... an aura. My intuition told me something was definitely wrong with the situation."
"And then, as you’ve seen, I ended up trapped here. That’s why I’m even more certain of my intuition. Someone must have set me up to cause this."
It was all based on intuition. It sounded a bit far-fetched.
But some things still didn’t add up, so Xu Qingsui didn’t dare to give a simple answer.
’Isn’t this supposed to be a self-preservation mechanism? Could it be that Lu Jingyu and the others were wrong?’
Unwilling to answer rashly, Xu Qingsui decided to trust Chen Yunfei’s intuition for now. She would first investigate whether someone had really acted against him in the shadows.
"You rest for a while. I’ve only heard secondhand accounts of what happened. I’ll take this opportunity to see it for myself. Later, I’ll figure out a way to break you out of this."
Chen Yunfei nodded. It had been three years. This was the first time his spirit body had felt so at ease. The feeling of relaxation was so foreign that he wanted to savor it.
Xu Qingsui began to review the events for Chen Yunfei. The situation was more or less as Lu Jingyu had described.
She wasn’t sure why, but she found herself paying special attention to Lu Jingyu’s actions.
As an observer, she could sense that Lu Jingyu truly had no attention to spare. He had already done the best he could.
The moment Lu Jingyu realized the Mutant he was fighting was charging toward Chen Yunfei, he had immediately rushed over to intercept.
But as Xu Qingsui’s attention shifted to that Mutant, she suddenly froze.
A figure flashed through her vision. The figure made a strange gesture and then vanished, just as the Mutant charged directly at Chen Yunfei.
Realizing she might have discovered something, Xu Qingsui quickly called out to Chen Yunfei.
"This is your Spiritual World. You can replay the memory, so you should be able to control time, right? Rewind to the moment right before the Mutant charged at you."
"Stop! Right there!" As the memory rewound, Xu Qingsui stared intently at the scene. The moment the figure appeared, she shouted.
When the image froze, they both saw a person standing in front of the Mutant. The Mutant hadn’t noticed this person, but their hand was raised in a throwing motion, as if they had just tossed something.
Realizing she had truly discovered something crucial, Xu Qingsui urged Chen Yunfei to play the memory forward.
By now, Chen Yunfei had also noticed the person in the scene, and his eyes reddened once more.
The truth that had eluded him for so long, through countless replays while trapped here, was finally being exposed.
Perhaps it was true what they say—it’s hard to see the full picture when you’re in the middle of it.
But regardless, the truth was finally about to be revealed. He would finally find out who set him up.
As the memory played again, a clear figure appeared before their eyes.
They watched the figure quickly raise a hand, scatter something in the air, and then immediately vanish.
But the Mutant suddenly became even more frenzied and charged directly toward the spot where the figure had just been standing.
The figure had vanished perfectly, directly exposing Chen Yunfei and the guide who was soothing him, who were standing not far behind, to the enraged Mutant.
The maddened Mutant charged straight for the two of them, giving them no time to react, and sent them both flying.
