Chapter 666: Silver Fox
Chapter 666: Chapter 666: Silver Fox
“What do you think of my plan, elder?” Fang Lin shared his intentions with the Demon Saint, seeking his opinion.
“Not a good idea,” replied the Demon Saint bluntly.
Fang Lin smirked, “But you’re here, aren’t you? What parts of the Hundred Beast Mountain can’t I go to with you on my side?”
The Demon Saint replied with annoyance, “I am not your good luck charm, and the Hundred Beast Mountain isn’t as simple as it seems. I can’t reveal myself at the moment, and if something dangerous arises, I won’t necessarily be able to protect you.”
Fang Lin replied with a sly grin, “That’s not a problem. Besides the elder, I also have measures to save my life. Even if I encounter the Demon King, I can still retreat with ease.”
The Demon Saint fell silent. He was aware that Fang Lin had many assets that indeed enabled him to explore dangerous places.
“Make your decision. I will be going dormant soon, and won’t be able to assist you,” said the Demon Saint.
Fang Lin nodded, determined to follow the traces of the animal tide to investigate.
Of course, he needed to make some necessary preparations.
Fang Lin consumed the Concealment Pill, masking his aura completely, and hung a few Demon Cores on his body, releasing demon Qi. This way, the demon beasts could not detect Fang Lin simply from his aura.
So, Fang Lin followed the traces to pursue them.
The chaos stirred by the beast tide was too grandiose, leaving behind obvious traces that were crystal clear unless one was blind or dumb.
As he journeyed on, Fang Lin noticed that the Hundred Beast Mountain had indeed undergone changes. It seemed that all the demon beasts had joined the beast tide; he actually hadn’t encountered any significant demon beasts along the way.
Instead, he found the skeletons of many martial artists. The bodies were incomplete, battered and bruised, with some reduced to mere piles of flesh; it was evident they had succumbed to the beast tide.
Fang Lin was solemn as he examined these skeletons. Among them, he found many from the royal family but did not see anyone he recognized.
Following the traces left by the beast tide, Fang Lin gradually approached the boundary between the outskirts and deepest parts of the Hundred Beast Mountain.
Normally, the closer one got to this boundary, the more demon beasts they would encounter. Their strengths would also increase, and even the Demon King would appear occasionally.
However, Fang Lin had hardly met any demon beasts, and those he had come across were all weak ones. Not a single powerful demon beast was in sight.
This was indeed strange.
With confusion, Fang Lin continued towards the boundary.
Finally, he noticed something off in a valley.
This valley was majestic as though a giant had violently dug it out from the mountains.
Fang Lin dared not approach, instead, he observed from afar using his Spirit Eye.
Inside the valley, many demon beasts of various sizes had crowded together. Despite the vastness of the valley, the gathering of so many beasts caused quite the congestion.
Fang Lin noticed that some small demon beasts had been crushed to death due to the congestion.
In the demon beast world, size often determined power. Generally, bigger beasts were stronger than smaller ones.
Of course, exceptions existed. Some small demon beasts possessed terrifying strength.
For instance, Fang Lin knew of many demon beasts. Despite their small size, they were a hundred times more terrifying than the gigantic ones.
Take the Blood Locust, for example. Slightly larger than a common locust, yet their swarming could bring the downfall of an entire city.
Then there was the Mountain-moving Beast. Despite its name implying otherwise, its size was comparable to a rat’s, and it was considerably insignificant in the demon beast world.
However, the Mountain-moving Beast possessed tremendous strength and was often seen shifting gigantic mountains.
People in the past often saw moving mountains and dared not provoke them because they knew the Mountain-moving Beast lurked beneath.
At this moment, in the valley, a very unusual demon beast appeared.
This was a Silver Fox, whose size was no different from an ordinary fox. In the midst of those massive beasts, it seemed rather inconspicuous.
However, this Silver Fox was standing at the peak, overlooking the beasts in the valley with an air of arrogance.
All the other beasts in the valley showed fervour in their eyes, growling and seemingly welcoming the arrival of the Silver Fox.
The Silver Fox appeared exceptionally extraordinary. Its figure was elegant, its fur glistening silver, and its eyes resembled beautiful gemstones.
Seeing this Silver Fox, the Demon Saint let out a slight sound of surprise, while Fang Lin frowned. They didn’t recognize the Silver Fox’s origin, but the way it looked hinted at something extraordinary.
“Do you recognize this Silver Fox, elder?” Fang Lin asked in a low voice.
“This isn’t its true form; it’s just a clone. I can only recognize it once I see its true form,” the Demon Saint replied.
Fang Lin was dumbfounded. The Silver Fox was only a clone.
The Silver Fox was presently speaking to the many demon beasts in the valley in a beast language that Fang Lin couldn’t understand.
As the Silver Fox spoke, the beasts seemed excited, howling continuously in a state of extreme exuberance.
Fang Lin could not comprehend the beast language, so he swiftly turned to query the Demon Saint.
“These Silver Fox is persuading these beasts to be its followers,” the Demon Saint said. Although he was of the Human Clan, as a Demon Saint, he thoroughly understood the beasts’ language.
Fang Lin frowned. The Silver Fox wanted these beasts to be its followers? What did it mean? Did he wish to flaunt his power with a bunch of followers behind him?
In the valley, there were two Demon Kings. One was a mammoth bull engulfed in flames and seemed rather dreadful.
Another was a Five-colored Bird covered in colorful feathers, had a purple crest on its head, and looked extremely majestic.
These two Demon Kings were the strongest amongst all the demon beasts. The flaming bull seemed to have submitted to the Silver Fox and showed deference towards it.
However, the five-colored Bird observed the Silver Fox with cold eyes, signaling its disagreement.
The Silver Fox returned the bird’s gaze, its gem-like eyes sparkling with a hint of amusement.
The next moment, the Five-colored Bird suddenly attacked the Silver Fox.
Roar!!!
In response, it was like they had disturbed a hornet’s nest. The flaming bull was the first to react, placing itself before the Silver Fox.
The other beasts also joined in, attacking the Five-colored Bird. Apart from the Bird, all the other demon beasts had submitted to the Silver Fox.
The Five-colored Bird, as a Demon King, had remarkable strength and didn’t regard these ordinary beasts.
However, the flaming bull, as a demon beast itself, was powerful and its innate flame served as a partial restriction to the Five-colored Bird.
