Chapter 319 - 290: They Look Like a Married Couple
Chapter 319: Chapter 290: They Look Like a Married Couple
A faint smile touched the corners of his mouth, as if he couldn’t be bothered to explain any further to Cao Gang.
He turned and started walking toward the other end of the night market.
Seeing him not answer, Cao Gang hurried after him. "Hey, say something! We’re part of the Demon Hunting Bureau now. Even if we’re just trainees, we’re still trainee Demon Hunters. Isn’t slaying demons our job?"
Chen Shuang stopped after taking a few steps.
He glanced back at him. "You think that ’slaughterhouse’ only has one or two demon beasts?"
"How could the two of us possibly wipe the place out on our own?"
"We should report this to Captain Chu first and see how he wants to handle it."
"Right, right, right! First, we find Captain Chu and report this to him!"
"Also... Chen Shuang, that roasted meat you mentioned... what kind of meat was it? It couldn’t be..."
Cao Gang’s expression changed. A flash of panic crossed his eyes, and a chill shot through his heart.
Chen Shuang smiled. "Haven’t you guessed it already?"
"Holy shit, it really is... Hey! Slow down, wait for me!"
...
Two hours passed in the blink of an eye.
Night Market Parking Lot.
Lin Yi, Qin Zhaoxue, Cui Ya, and Xia Shiyu all returned on time.
By the time they arrived at the parking lot, they discovered Chu Zhengxiong and Mo Yanfeng were already waiting for them.
Lin Yi smiled and walked forward. "Brother Chu!"
"How much stuff did you buy, kiddo? Good grief, watching you eat all those snacks, you must be stuffed, right?" Chu Zhengxiong said with a laugh.
Lin Yi chuckled. "Since I’m here, I might as well eat my fill, right? But it was still missing something... BURP!"
"Even after all that, it was still missing something? Any more and you’ll get indigestion!"
The two exchanged a smile, and Chu Zhengxiong glanced over at the others.
"Is that about everyone? Who’s still not back?"
"Captain Chu, Cao Gang and Chen Shuang are still..."
"They’ve been back for a while. They’re sitting in the car!"
"Oh, then that’s everyone! We’re all here!" Cui Ya said with a smiling nod.
Chu Zhengxiong looked at them.
"Today is the first time our Fifth Demon Hunting Squad is meeting up!"
"I’m not assigning any missions today. Let’s just consider this a team-building event."
"But starting tomorrow, we’re getting down to business for real."
"Alright, get in the car, everyone. Cui Ya, Xia Shiyu, Old Mo will take you back to the university!"
"Xiaoyi, Zhao Xue, how about the three of us grab a cab back?"
Chu Zhengxiong suggested with a smile.
Neither Lin Yi nor Qin Zhaoxue had any objections.
The three of them headed toward the side of the road, while Cui Ya and Xia Shiyu got into the Jeep.
The hustle and bustle of the night market was nothing like the Old District.
There was simply no comparison.
Even though it was already around nine o’clock at night, the streets were still incredibly lively, with an endless stream of cars and people.
They waited by the roadside for what felt like forever, but they couldn’t hail a cab. Every single taxi that passed was already occupied.
"Dammit, it’s so much more convenient to drive yourself. It’s impossible to get a taxi here!"
After waiting for over ten minutes, Chu Zhengxiong’s patience was wearing thin.
The main problem wasn’t a lack of taxis, but that none of them were empty.
The feeling of waiting in vain was incredibly frustrating.
Just as Lin Yi was about to say something to calm Chu Zhengxiong...
...a taxi from the opposite lane quickly made a U-turn and pulled up in front of them.
"Where to?"
"Xingwu University!"
"Alright, get in!"
The driver smiled and nodded.
Chu Zhengxiong, Lin Yi, and Qin Zhaoxue all got into the car.
"I saw you guys earlier, but I had a fare, so I couldn’t stop."
"When I was heading back, I saw you were still here and hurried right over!"
Once the car was moving, the talkative driver smiled and struck up a conversation with Chu Zhengxiong in the passenger seat.
Chu Zhengxiong nodded. "Yeah, we’ve been waiting here for twenty minutes without a single empty cab."
The driver laughed. "Well, it’s the night market. It’s like this every day. It’s so hard to hail a cab here. For us taxi drivers, we don’t go anywhere else at night. We just come here to pick up fares. You get here and you get a ride right away. Trip after trip... it’s just exhausting."
"By the way, are you all students from Xingwu University? You don’t really look like one, though."
When Chu Zhengxiong didn’t respond, the driver asked again with a smile.
He took the chance to size up Chu Zhengxiong.
With that weathered face and rough beard...
...no one would have doubted he was Lin Yi and Qin Zhaoxue’s father.
Chu Zhengxiong glanced back at the driver and chuckled. "What’s that supposed to mean? I don’t look like a university student?"
"Oh! You do, you really do... Martial arts training must be hard, huh? It really drains your vitality, being out in the wind and sun all day. Over time, it’s easy to get... COUGH, COUGH, COUGH... mature!"
The driver was stammering.
He was clearly afraid of offending Chu Zhengxiong.
But to his surprise, Chu Zhengxiong just burst out laughing. "Driver, what student? Are there students as old as me?"
"See the kid in the back? He’s my little brother. I brought him out to the night market for a good time!"
"And the girl next to him? That’s his girlfriend, my future sister-in-law. What do you think? They make a great couple, right?"
The moment Chu Zhengxiong finished speaking...
...Lin Yi’s expression, sitting in the back, changed dramatically. As for Qin Zhaoxue, her face instantly flushed bright red.
’Where did that even come from? When did we become a couple? "Future sister-in-law"?’
The driver quickly glanced in the rearview mirror, and the moment he saw Lin Yi and Qin Zhaoxue...
...he nodded with a serious expression. "You know, you’re right. They really do look like a married couple. Take a look at their eyes, their brows, even their mouths—don’t they look alike?"
