Chapter 68 - 67: Power of Law
Chapter 68: Chapter 67: Power of Law
On the Dawn Continent, the Power of Law is divided into different tiers.
The highest tier of the Power of Law is called the Power of Existence. It is parallel to or transcends the very definition of the world, the fundamental principle behind the existence of matter and consciousness.
This includes powers such as space, time, eternity, and chaos.
The next level down is Elemental Power. This tier is also called the Upper-tier Law. The four great elements of earth, water, wind, and fire belong to this tier, and are the cornerstones of this world.
Further down are the Mid-tier Laws, which can be broadly divided into four major categories: Illusion, Mystic, Nature, and Divine.
Then there are the Lower-tier Laws, which are mostly derivative, secondary Laws from the highest and upper-tier Laws.
And finally, the Lowest-tier Laws, which are generally manifestations of a creature’s innate attributes.
On the Dawn Continent, the vast majority of Golden Peak and Legendary Powerhouses awaken Lowest-tier or Lower-tier Laws.
Only a very small number of races, such as the Dragon Race, awaken Powers of Law that are at least Mid-tier.
Among the Dragon Race, the four great royal clans, upon reaching the Legend realm, are guaranteed to awaken an Upper-tier Elemental Power.
This was the foundation of the Dragon Race’s pride, which allowed them to look down on the Ten Thousand Races.
Of course, the tier of a Law doesn’t decide everything.
A higher-tier Law only represents more possibilities; it doesn’t mean it can automatically crush a lower-tier Law.
If a lower-tier Law is used appropriately, it can still unleash tremendous power.
Not to mention, there’s also the matter of some Laws countering others.
Both the Great Elder and Zhuo Gu had already begun to awaken their own Powers of Law.
Zhuo Gu had awakened the Law of ’Scorching Heat’, a secondary Law of the Fire Element.
Despite his noble birth, the "secondary" in its name unfortunately meant it was only at the level of a Lower-tier Law.
The Great Elder’s Law of ’Thorns’ was similar. It was a secondary Law of plants within the Laws of Nature, also making it a Lower-tier Law.
The Power of Law is the highest form of power in this world. Although neither the Great Elder nor Zhuo Gu could fully manifest and freely control their own Power of Law to its full potential, the force they unleashed with every move was already astonishing.
In just a short time, the area where the two had been fighting was already a complete wreck.
The ground was cracked like a spiderweb, with fissures crisscrossing everywhere. Charred soil was upturned, and at the edges, rock had melted and then solidified, forming a smooth, mirror-like, vitrified substance.
The remains of thorns were scattered everywhere, their broken ends charred and curled. Embers still glowed, and wisps of green smoke drifted up.
No one dared to approach this death zone. Everyone stayed far away, terrified of being caught in the crossfire.
To the others, the two powerhouses seemed evenly matched, locked in a stalemate.
But in the eyes of Anton, who had a deep understanding of the Power of Law, the Great Elder was at a disadvantage.
The reason was simple: the Law of Scorching Heat completely countered the Law of Thorns.
A closer look would reveal that the thorns controlled by the Great Elder were incinerated into ash the moment they touched the high-temperature red glow around Zhuo Gu, making it impossible to inflict any fatal damage on him.
When their Law tiers were the same, and their understanding and control over the Power of Law were nearly equal, the elemental counter between their Laws decided the balance of power.
Facing Zhuo Gu, although the Great Elder was in no immediate danger of defeat, he was limited to defending and trying to contain him.
The only way to break the stalemate was for their side’s Golden Tier combatants to eliminate their opponents first and then free themselves up to provide support.
Therefore, after annihilating most of the Stone-skin Giant Demons and confirming that the allied forces had full control of the battlefield, Anton unhesitatingly charged toward the nearest Golden Tier Dragon-Lizardman.
He planned to first eliminate all of the enemy’s Golden Tier combatants other than Zhuo Gu, and then gather everyone’s strength to deal with Zhuo Gu together.
But just as Anton was about to make his move, a terrifying energy fluctuation erupted from the west.
The fluctuation came without any warning, yet it was as violent as a volcanic eruption, sweeping across the entire battlefield in a wave of scorching heat.
Countless people involuntarily stopped what they were doing and turned to look to the west.
Anton also looked over instinctively, his gaze suddenly sharpening.
On the open ground to the west, Zhuo Gu’s body had, at some point, undergone an astonishing transformation.
A layer of blinding red light enveloped his entire body. Wherever the light touched, the scales on his skin began to melt and reform, turning into a layer of translucent, crimson-gold armor that clung tightly to his form, with patterns like flowing magma.
His vertical pupils had completely transformed into two balls of burning flame. The pupils themselves vanished, leaving only golden-red fire dancing in his eye sockets.
Even his breath carried scorching sparks, and each exhalation left a faint red trail in the air.
The red aura that had originally surrounded him also expanded rapidly, transforming from a thin layer into a blazing halo several meters thick, its temperature soaring to a terrifying, suffocating level.
The ground beneath his feet rapidly cracked, reddened, and melted in the intense heat, turning into a bubbling pool of lava.
"This is..."
Anton’s heart sank as a powerful sense of crisis washed over him.
The next instant, Zhuo Gu suddenly exploded forward, his speed so fast it left a trail of afterimages in the air as he charged toward the Great Elder, wrapped in a rolling wave of heat.
The Great Elder’s expression changed drastically. Thorns grew wildly around him, weaving themselves layer upon layer into a dense, impenetrable wall of thorns.
However, in front of Zhuo Gu, that wall of thorns, which could withstand the full-force attack of an ordinary Golden Tier expert, was as fragile as paper.
The moment Zhuo Gu’s claws tore through the thorns, the scorching heat wave surged in along the gashes, igniting the thorns from the inside out. Raging flames devoured everything.
The wall of thorns collapsed with a roar, turning into a sky full of fiery sparks.
The Great Elder retreated rapidly, but he was a step too slow. Zhuo Gu’s claws raked across his chest, leaving three charred, black gashes so deep the bone was visible. The blood coagulated from the intense heat before it could even flow.
The Great Elder let out a muffled grunt. He staggered backward, his face instantly turning deathly pale.
The situation took a sharp turn for the worse.
On the battlefield, the Elves’ expressions changed drastically, and the Dwarven elders’ faces paled as well.
"Great Elder!"
"Leonard!"
Cries of alarm rose one after another. The Second Elder and Third Elder tried to break away from the battle to provide support, but this time, it was their turn to be pinned down by their respective opponents.
BOOM!
A deafening thunderclap suddenly exploded.
A blinding flash of lightning tore through the void, streaking directly toward Zhuo Gu.
It was Anton. Seeing that the situation was dire, he had decisively abandoned his original target and made a bold move, unleashing a Palm Thunder with a raise of his hand.
Zhuo Gu had intended to press his advantage, but he sensed the terrifying energy contained within the lightning and was forced to stop and swipe his claw at the bolt.
CRACKLE!
The lightning bolt slammed viciously into the blazing halo around his palm, instantly erupting in a blinding flash of light.
The two colored halos intertwined, collided, and annihilated each other, but in the end, the blazing halo proved superior, extinguishing the lightning completely.
However, using that brief opening, Anton had already darted in front of the Great Elder, his solemn gaze fixed on the very center of Zhuo Gu’s chest.
There, a palm-sized crest was embedded in his flesh, looking as if it had grown from within his body.
The crest was crimson-gold, shaped like a solar disk, with twelve sharp spikes extending from its edges. They were sunk deep into the surrounding scales and flesh, like greedy roots drawing nutrients.
At this moment, the crest was emitting a blinding, golden-red light, like a miniature sun embedded in Zhuo Gu’s chest.
"The Solar Crest."
Anton narrowed his eyes and blurted it out.
"Hm?"
The flames in Zhuo Gu’s eyes flickered as his gaze landed on Anton. His tone carried a trace of surprise. "You actually recognize this thing?"
