Chapter 66 - 66 Xia Ye Ridiculed
66 Xia Ye Ridiculed
Xia Ye’s expression stiffened. She didn’t expect him to reject her so directly.
There were still many people around watching. “You don’t look like you’re from the village,” she said a little bashfully. “I’m from the village, so I know the way around. I can definitely help you.”
Xia Ye revealed a smile she thought was friendly. However, little did she know that Chen Mo was actually disgusted by it.
Ever since he was young, he had been surrounded by all kinds of girls, and they all tried to get close to him. However, none of them did it because they really wanted to be friends or because they admired him.
He had once believed them. However, when they had asked him to put in a good word for them and give them some support for their family business, Chen Mo understood that these people had approached him with the sole purpose of obtaining benefits from their family.
Slowly, he met more people and experienced more things and could tell whether those people were looking at him with innocence or with other intentions.
The girl standing in front of him now, for instance, had obvious greed and vanity in her eyes.
What attracted her was the car they drove and his appearance.
“I don’t need your help with who I’m looking for. The village is so big that I can ask anyone. Please step aside, or don’t blame me for being impolite.” Chen Mo’s tone became even colder.
His meaning was obvious. Even if he asked someone else, it wouldn’t be Xia Ye.
The onlookers weren’t stupid. They all understood what he meant and started to laugh at her. “Xia Ye, can’t you tell what I’m trying to say? I just don’t want to talk to you,” they jeered.
“That’s right. Why are you so thick-skinned? Whenever you see a handsome and rich man, you’ll take the initiative to get close. Are all the ladies in your Xia family so shameless? All of you like to hook up with men.”
When Xia Ye heard this, she immediately turned around and retorted, “Their shameless deeds have nothing to do with me. I’m not that kind of person. I just want to help. Stop talking nonsense!”
After retorting hoarsely, Xia Ye ran away in a hurry. She did not want to see those people criticizing her anymore. In the past, when the villagers criticized and badmouthed Xia Wan, she felt it deserved, but when these gazes landed on her, she finally understood how hurtful they were.
Xu Ye also rolled his eyes toward where Xia Ye had left. He had thought that the girl Chen Mo cared about was from this village and that this village might be different from the people in other places. However, he realized that he had been overthinking things. The people here were also so vain.
“Turn left over there,” he said, pointing ahead. “You should be at Xia Wan’s house. Let’s go.”
Chen Mo followed behind him. On the way, neither of them mentioned what had happened.
When they arrived at their destination, Xu Ye looked at the old wooden door and frowned. “Chen Mo, are you sure the girl you like lives here? No matter how you look at it, she doesn’t seem to be very wealthy.”
The surroundings were built with mud walls, and the worn door looked like it stood for an eternity. Moreover, it was only so tall and definitely not burglar resistant.
Xu Ye felt that since Chen Mo had taken a liking to someone, that person must be extraordinary. No matter what, she must be a special existence in the village.
“She saved my life. She’s not the girl I like,” Chen Mo corrected him immediately.
He admitted that whenever he thought of Xia Wan, his heart would beat faster, and he would feel other emotions, but he was unsure if he liked her. All he knew was that he cared about her.
Xu Ye’s lips twitched. He knew Chen Mo very well. Of course, he could tell that Chen Mo cared about her, but since he was unwilling to admit it, he would take his feelings into account and not say too much.
Just as Xu Ye was about to knock on the door, he happened to see Xia Ye walking in from another direction.
Xia Ye was stunned momentarily when she saw the two of them. Chen Mo’s expression immediately froze. “Didn’t I tell you to leave? Why are you following us?”
Xia Ye did not expect that she would run in the wrong direction when she was just running away randomly. Now, she was about to go home when she saw these two people again.
