Chapter 1235 - 29: The Pearl Collector and the Princess
Chapter 1235: Chapter 29: The Pearl Collector and the Princess
"Let me tell you, I absolutely disagree!" The Emperor, almost fifty, was still full of energy. At this moment, he was glaring at Tianmiao with puffed cheeks. The Emperor wasn’t bad-looking, just a bit short. Thankfully, the Princes and Princesses didn’t inherit his height thanks to the concubines’ superior genes, which perfectly compensated for his shortcomings.
To say "a bit short" is an understatement. He was just shy of five feet tall, which in today’s units is only about 165 centimeters.
The Emperor may be skinny and short, but his spirit and energy were impeccable. He spoke with full gusto.
"Father, I haven’t said anything yet." Tianmiao said helplessly.
"I know what you want to say. Sit down first." The Emperor pointed to a chair, indicating Tianmiao should sit down. Having traveled a long way to see him, she must be exhausted. Despite his grumpy tone, he couldn’t bear to tire his daughter out.
Tianmiao complied, took a sip of the tea that had been prepared for her, and then looked up at the Emperor.
"I’m telling you, it’s impossible! No way! Absolutely impossible! How can the sixth Prince marry a lowly Pearl Collector? It’s simply a joke for the royal family!" The Emperor started blowing his cheeks and glaring again.
"Why can’t he?" Tianmiao placed the teacup down and asked leisurely.
"Of course not! The sixth Prince is a Prince, he’s my son. How could he possibly marry a Pearl Collector?" The Emperor said angrily.
"Because of the enormous difference in social status?" Tianmiao continued asking leisurely.
"Exactly!" The Emperor replied confidently.
"Father." Tianmiao looked longingly at the Emperor’s crown.
"What’s the matter?" The Emperor asked, puzzled, instinctively touching his forehead. Did he have something dirty there?
"The pearl you love the most on your crown was collected by the very Pearl Collector you’re looking down on. If you dislike her, why don’t you take it off?" Tianmiao said slowly.
"What?!" The Emperor was startled, and in a flash, he took off his crown directly. "Then I won’t wear it. No matter what you say, I just don’t agree with this marriage." He wasn’t willing to actually take the pearl off; this East Pearl was large and bright, and he liked it very much at first sight.
"Father, shouldn’t we be reasonable? They’re in love, and their marriage doesn’t inconvenience you in any way." Tianmiao said sincerely.
"How does it not affect me? What about the dignity of the royal family?" The Emperor shouted in a loud voice.
"Well, the founding Emperor was a butcher, and the founding Empress at that time was the daughter of a landlord. She didn’t mind him then." Tianmiao rolled her eyes and said.
"That’s different!" The Emperor howled, "It’s different, how can you compare it? And did you just roll your eyes?"
"I did not," Tianmiao denied.
"You did, I saw it, don’t try to fool me." The Emperor said relentlessly, "You are a Princess, about to become the Crown Princess. How can you display such unrefined actions? Luckily, it’s in front of me. If it were outside, and someone saw it, the censor would report you by tomorrow."
"Let them report." Tianmiao said undeterred, "I don’t even want to be the Crown Princess."
"That’s not happening, you have to be." The Emperor sat down angrily, "Can’t you fulfill my wish just this once? Can’t you be a good Crown Princess, just this one time?"
"I won’t." Tianmiao shook her head, "Being an Emperor is exhausting."
