Chapter 1209: Chapter 3: Pearl Collector and Princess
Li Anqing didn’t answer at the time, just chuckled and said, "You’ll find out later."
In the following days, Wang Linglan lived a life she never dared to dream of.
Li Anqing treated her like treasure, often helping with household chores, chatting with her every day, teaching her to read, and telling her stories. It was as if his mind was a never-ending source of fascinating and beautiful stories.
Later, she became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter.
When she found out it was a daughter, Wang Linglan felt anxious because in this society, women who couldn’t bear sons were often looked down upon. She worried that Li Anqing would no longer treat her as well as before and feared those beautiful days were over.
But Li Anqing was very happy; he came in and first kissed her forehead, telling her she had worked hard giving birth, and then went to hold the baby girl in the midwife’s arms. He told her that having a son or a daughter was the same; they were both our treasures.
Wang Linglan finally felt at ease, believing she was truly fortunate.
But her heart became unsettled again as their daughter began to grow.
Their daughter, Li Qinghe, couldn’t speak! She was mute!
This nearly shattered Wang Linglan’s heart.
In such situations, a woman was typically abandoned, and a mute daughter would either have to return to the mother’s family. But she had no family to return to. No matter what, she was determined to raise her daughter, even if she had to beg.
"Are you letting your imagination run wild again?" Li Anqing looked at his wife’s pale face and knew she was worrying unnecessarily again, "Don’t fret. We’re healthy; maybe our daughter can’t speak due to an illness. We’ll find doctors to treat her. Even if she truly can’t speak, I would still love her and love you two. You are my two treasures."
Wang Linglan’s tears flowed immediately.
How did she deserve such a good man?
Their daughter grew day by day, but no matter how many famous doctors they sought, it had no effect.
Sometimes Wang Linglan felt sad and distressed, but Li Anqing always gently comforted her. It was okay; if he feared their daughter would be wronged, he’d take care of her for life. Then he urged her to stop worrying and to quickly make dinner; he was going to take their daughter swimming at the seaside.
Li Anqing taught Li Qinghe to swim and dive when she was a few years old; living by the sea, how could one not know how to swim? Then Li Anqing discovered his daughter’s remarkable swimming skills; she could dive for not just longer than him but even two or three times his duration.
"Sweetheart, are you a reincarnated mermaid?" Li Anqing asked his daughter in wonder, holding her.
The now eight-year-old Li Qinghe smiled with pursed lips; she knew what a mermaid was; her dad had told her stories and drawn pictures. It was a mysterious and beautiful creature living in the ocean.
Li Qinghe shook her head, then patted her dad’s chest and then her own little chest.
"You’re Daddy’s little darling!" Li Anqing understood what his daughter wanted to express, laughed heartily, and put her down, leading her home, "Tonight I’ll have your mom cook a chicken, and you’ll get all the drumsticks."
Li Qinghe shook her head, pointed her finger at Li Anqing, then towards home, meaning one drumstick for Dad and one for Mom.
"No need! You’re growing, you eat. Your mom and I will eat the rest," Li Anqing laughed and patted his daughter’s small head gently. Daughters are truly like little cotton-padded jackets; this saying is indeed true.
