Chapter 1505: Chapter 1468: The Cannon Fodder Home 76
New Year’s really gets more and more boring, especially as you grow older, it just feels even more meaningless.
Xiao Lu feels the same way.
She’s been stuck at home for several days helping to entertain guests, and she has to go with Anning and Xiao Yuan to visit other people’s homes for New Year greetings. It’s like this every day, and she really feels emotionally exhausted.
Especially when many people ask when they will get to eat Xiao Lu’s wedding candy with Xiao Yuan and Anning, it makes Xiao Lu feel even more unsettled.
Du Heng is quite a good person and treats her well. Overall, there’s nothing Xiao Lu is dissatisfied with.
Yet she always feels like something is missing, but she can’t quite put her finger on what it is.
She finally managed to endure until the start of the new school year.
As soon as school started, Xiao Lu began helping Xiao Yilin inquire about that Professor Yin.
One of Xiao Lu’s roommates is a gossip enthusiast who loves finding out things. When she heard Xiao Lu asking about Professor Yin, she immediately leaned over and asked, "Why are you asking about my idol?"
Xiao Lu was taken aback: "Your idol?"
That roommate leaned her chin dreamily and said, "Specifically, he’s many people’s idol. Don’t you know? Professor Yin came to our school before the winter break. His arrival stirred the hearts of numerous young girls. I was hoping for school to start soon after going home for the holidays so that I could see my idol again."
"Is it that serious?"
Xiao Lu didn’t think Professor Yin was particularly handsome.
Besides, she has a father who looks like an immortal and a mischievous brother at home. Being exposed to these two all the time, all the handsome guys in the world are just clouds to her.
"Of course, it’s that serious."
Another roommate of Xiao Lu interjected: "You haven’t seen Professor Yin, have you? Let me tell you, he is really handsome, incredibly handsome, his physique, looks, and aura are absolutely unbeatable."
Xiao Yuan, speechless: "Alright, idol this, idol that, got it. Could you help me find out where he usually hangs out? I really have something to discuss with him."
The gossipy roommate made an OK gesture.
Just as Xiao Lu was about to say something, a roommate by the window shouted, "Hey, look, a handsome guy!"
The other two roommates gathered around to see the excitement.
Xiao Lu’s phone rang; it was Du Heng calling: "Lulu, do you have time today? I’d like to treat you to a meal."
"Sure, where are you? I’ll come find you," Xiao Lu agreed readily.
"I’m just downstairs." Du Heng sounded as if he was smiling, very happy.
"Really, the handsome guy downstairs is you?" Xiao Lu hurried over to the window with her phone, and saw Du Heng waving towards her.
"Honestly." Xiao Lu complained slightly: "Wait for me, I’ll be right down."
She grabbed her bag and said to her roommates, "My boyfriend is picking me up for dinner, you guys..."
"That’s your boyfriend?" The gossipy roommate perked up instantly: "No wonder you’re not interested in my idol, turns out you’ve been hiding such a handsome boyfriend."
Xiao Lu chuckled: "I’m off, we’ll talk later if there’s anything."
She hurriedly headed downstairs, and when she got there, Du Heng gentlemanly offered to carry her bag, gently asking, "What do you want to eat today?"
Xiao Lu smiled politely, mentioned the dishes she wanted, and they chatted as they walked, appearing quite intimate.
After Xiao Lu and Du Heng walked away, a man emerged from a dark corner at the turn.
The man looked tall and thin, wearing a white wool sweater and jeans, topped with a color-blocked warm jacket. His aura was very clean, giving off a youthful vibe.
Standing in the sunlight, his face appeared quite dark and moody.
He stared at Xiao Lu’s back, struggling to suppress the anger in his eyes from showing.
After eating, Xiao Lu and Du Heng returned to school when it was already getting dark.
Du Heng initially wanted to take Xiao Lu back to her dormitory, but something came up, and he could only drop her at the school gate, leaving Xiao Lu to walk back by herself.
They just had dinner and she ate a little too much, so Xiao Lu walked slowly, using it as a chance to take a walk.
The weather was still quite cold, she wore a thick coat and a fluffy scarf, but when the north wind blew, she couldn’t help but hunch her shoulders.
"Miss, wait a moment."
As Xiao Lu walked past a lamppost, a shadow suddenly leaped out from the roadside.
Xiao Lu stopped and looked at the approaching person.
The person approached with a smile and carefully examined her: "Lulu."
Xiao Lu was startled, stepping back two steps: "You are, Professor Yin?"
Indeed, the person who stopped Xiao Lu was the Professor Yin whom Xiao Yilin was looking for.
"Lulu seems distant with me now." Yin Peiran looked at Xiao Lu with a hurt expression: "You used to call me ’big brother’."
Xiao Lu covered her mouth to prevent herself from gasping in surprise, and only after a while did her mood settle: "It’s you, I thought you seemed familiar; you look a bit different now, I didn’t recognize you at first."
Yin Peiran smiled and patted Xiao Lu’s head: "Lulu has changed a lot too, grown up, and become more beautiful."
Xiao Lu smiled: "Really, well, it’s been many years, things are bound to change."
Just as Yin Peiran was about to say something, Xiao Lu’s phone rang from inside her bag, and she quickly took it out to answer.
Du Heng’s voice came through: "Lulu, are you back at the dorm yet?"
"Not yet." Xiao Lu’s face wore a smile, her voice gentle as she spoke to Du Heng: "I ran into an old friend, we’re chatting. Where are you now? Don’t make calls while on the road, pay more attention to safety."
"Okay." Du Heng chuckled: "I’ll hang up now; you should get some rest early too."
"Alright." Xiao Lu ended the call with a smile.
Yin Peiran sized her up: "Whose call was that?"
Xiao Lu didn’t think much: "My boyfriend’s."
She put her phone back in the bag: "Big brother, what have you been up to all these years? I looked for you a few times later but couldn’t find you."
Yin Peiran naturally took Xiao Lu’s hand: "Let’s go to my place and talk, it’s been years since we met, I have lots to tell you."
"Where?" Xiao Lu blinked, somewhat puzzled.
"My residence, I have an assigned house here." Yin Peiran said, holding Xiao Lu’s hand as they walked forward: "You should come over and get familiar, so you can find me directly if there’s anything you need in the future."
"Okay," Xiao Lu nodded earnestly.
In the study of the Xiao Family
Xiao Yuan was writing, when suddenly his pen halted.
He put down the pen and left the study.
In the bedroom, Anning was cross-legged on the bed reading a plan, when Xiao Yuan pushed open the door, his expression not looking good.
"What’s wrong?" Anning put down the plan.
Xiao Yuan sat beside her: "The biggest variable has appeared."
"Not good."
Anning calculated with her fingers for a while, almost spitting blood due to exertion.
Her face also turned extremely grim: "That person... If things go wrong, I’m afraid he will destroy this world."
"I previously couldn’t understand the reason for Xiao Lu’s rebirth, but now I do." Xiao Yuan held Anning’s hand: "Stop calculating, now everything depends on their own intentions, we can’t control it."
"What exactly is he?"
Anning looked at Xiao Yuan, her eyes filled with concern.
"The variable of this world." Xiao Yuan felt a heaviness in his heart: "Every world has its variables, it depends on how powerful he is, and he’s already on the verge of becoming demonic. If he can’t be brought back onto the right path, it’ll be catastrophic for the whole world."
Anning nodded: "Xiao Lu’s rebirth is the World Consciousness’s attempt to save itself."
