A rather mischievous thought popped into Sheldon Caldwell’s head just then. ’If I want to deal with Nathaniel Nathan in the future, should I start with Vera Xavier?’
But as soon as he thought of Vera, he felt that this approach wasn’t great either. After all, she was no pushover. Besides, he had already told Vera to her face that he saw her as a little sister. Bullying her after that would be hard to justify.
So, another idea came to him. ’Vera is my sister. In the future, when Nathaniel Nathan is about to marry her, I have to make him bow down to me one way or another!’
Just then, the relevant university chancellor finished his speech and announced that this year’s performance review had officially begun!
The first event of the review was the team competition, which consisted of goose-stepping and a series of other basic group drills.
Since all the participating institutions were specialized academies, Veridia University’s chancellor, Lane Yancey, didn’t think Sheldon Caldwell’s whimsical idea for a military training review would yield any good results. Moreover, he was swamped with official duties, so while the chancellors of all the other institutions were present, he was the only one who hadn’t come.
The chancellors of the other academies clearly didn’t have high hopes for the students from Veridia University either. Although Veridia University was the top regular university in the country, being book-smart usually meant they would be somewhat weaker when it came to military training and physical fitness.
And so, the chancellors were all making polite small talk, saying things like, "The overall quality of our university’s freshmen is higher than in previous years. They should be able to take first place this time."
"Your university is also quite excellent. Your performance in the team competition this time is truly impressive! You’ll definitely make it into the top three!"
"Leader Zhang’s academy made a small mistake during their entrance, but their overall strength is still quite good. They have a few exceptionally talented freshmen this year. I think they can contend for the top three."
This was followed by the chancellors exchanging pleasantries, with humble replies like "You flatter me," and "It was just so-so."
Because Veridia University was a newly added team, they were scheduled to perform last—whether intentionally or not.
But when it was their turn, the chancellors and various leaders were all quite surprised. Their movements were so precise and uniform, their presence powerful, their momentum magnificent. Compared to the military academy cadets who went before them, they were not the least bit inferior; in fact, they even seemed to be surpassing them.
The leaders were also somewhat taken aback. A leader surnamed Zhang couldn’t help but comment, "These students from Veridia University this year are quite interesting!"
"From what I’m seeing of their performance so far, they could rank in the top three for this first round," Leader Sullivan said with a smile.
After speaking, he glanced at Sheldon Caldwell, a hint of gratification in his eyes.
At this, a leader surnamed Liu shot a glare at Nathaniel Nathan. "Don’t get cocky yet. There are still several rounds to go. This opening team competition doesn’t count for much."
Before Nathaniel Nathan could say anything, Leader Sullivan spoke up, "The team competition is the best measure of a team’s spirit and morale. I find that the spirit of these Veridia University freshmen is excellent this year, on par with the students from the specialized academies."
The first round of the review ended, and the results were announced quickly. The students of Veridia University had earned an impressive second place. When the result was announced, the Veridia University students immediately let out a cheer, then began chanting, "Our head instructor is the most handsome man in the universe!"
Sheldon Caldwell grinned and made a gesture with his hands, motioning for them to quiet down, before calling out, "And what’s our slogan?"
