Chapter 742: Tearing Off Her Skin (Part 6)
Chapter 742: Chapter 742: Tearing Off Her Skin (Part 6)
The colors on Susan Caldwell’s face shifted rapidly, from red to white, white to green, and then to purple. It was quite a spectacle.
Vera Xavier took a step forward, stopping right in front of Susan Caldwell. She looked at her and said, "I always knew you held a grudge against me, but I never imagined you’d stoop this low. For your own selfish gain, you used so many students who didn’t know any better and nearly ruined Ruby Walsh. Susan Caldwell, do you have any conscience at all?"
Susan Caldwell’s hands clenched into fists. Vera continued, "If Ruby Walsh hadn’t happened to be a girl—if she were a boy—I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to clear my name even if I jumped into the Ochre River. To stop more students from falling for your tricks, I have no choice but to expose your true colors right here. If you’re going to hate me for this, then direct that hate at me alone. Don’t drag anyone else into it."
Her demeanor was a stark contrast to Susan Caldwell’s. Speaking as the victim, Vera’s stature seemed to grow, towering over the image Susan had presented moments before.
This contrast only fueled the anger of the girls who were already upset. A furious tension solidified in the air around them.
A sense of dread bloomed in Susan Caldwell’s heart, her eyes filled with shock and uncertainty.
’She was starting to realize that today’s events had all been within Vera’s expectations. Otherwise, how could Ruby Walsh have shown up at just this conveniently inconvenient moment? This whole thing was probably a trap Vera had set up long ago, just waiting for me to walk right into it!’
’She’d thought it was strange before. Rumors were flying all over the school, yet Vera didn’t seem to care. She hadn’t offered a single explanation or denial.’
’She had assumed it was because Laura White had backed up her story, leaving Vera with no way to fight back.’
’She never would have guessed that Vera wasn’t defending herself because she was powerless—it was because she was holding her trump card, waiting to unleash it all at once!’
’Susan considered herself a master of patience, unrivaled among her peers when it came to messing with people. But every time she went up against Vera, it was like her skills vanished, and she’d end up getting played for a fool in minutes!’
’For her, the experience was absolutely infuriating!’
She ground out through clenched teeth, "Vera Xavier!"
"What? You think you’re in the right after fabricating all this just to hurt me?" Vera stared at Susan. "I may be easy-going, but that doesn’t mean you can walk all over me!"
After she spoke, Vera gave Susan a shove. Susan stumbled back a large step, right into the crowd of girls whose anger had already been ignited.
One of the girls got her foot stepped on. Already furious at having been deceived, Susan’s misstep was like a spark landing in a pan of hot oil. In an instant, the firestorm erupted.
Almost instinctively, the girl threw a punch at Susan and shouted, "You lied to me and now you step on me? I’ll beat you to death!"
The moment that girl threw the first punch, the others around her seemed to catch the fever, and they all started attacking Susan.
Suddenly, a flurry of fists rained down on Susan.
Vera blinked as she watched the scene unfold. She took a small step to the side; she had no desire to get caught in the crossfire.
The boys who had been watching the drama from the sidelines were all dumbfounded. ’Those girls look so demure, but they’re actually this savage? Terrifying!’
