My brother has always been a mama’s boy, and Vera, being beautiful and a smooth talker, has had him wrapped around her little finger for ages!"
"Now, my brother only has eyes for Vera Xavier; he’s completely forgotten about me, his own sister. He’s constantly helping her bully me! Today, Vera slapped my face until it was swollen and gave me a bloody nose, and my brother still said it was for my own good!"
"How outrageous!" Julian Caldwell was furious. "How can this Vera Xavier be so malicious? And Sheldon... how can he be so foolish!"
"Dad, I’m only telling you this because I have no other choice," Susan Caldwell said through her tears. "Just... forget I said anything once I’m done. I don’t want Mom to accuse me of sowing discord again."
Because Susan Caldwell had stirred up some trouble in the past, Winter Sullivan had once accused her of liking to sow discord.
Hearing Susan’s words, Julian Caldwell’s heart ached for her. He said gently, "I know exactly what kind of person my Susan is. Don’t you worry your head about it. And rest assured, as long as I’m around, I will never let someone with such poor character like Vera Xavier into the Caldwell family!"
Susan Caldwell said softly, "Dad, you’re the only one I dare tell these things to. In the whole world, you’re the one who loves me the most!"
"You’re my daughter. Who else would I dote on?" Julian Caldwell said with a soft sigh. "I just wish your brother were half as well-behaved and sensible as you."
In the Caldwell family, the parents had their favorites: Winter Sullivan doted on Sheldon, while Julian Caldwell doted on Susan. Their approaches to parenting were completely different, which was why Winter thought Sheldon was the better child, and Julian, Susan.
Susan sniffled and said, "My brother is a good person, really. It’s just that Vera Xavier has him completely bewitched right now."
"I’ll take care of this, so don’t you worry," Julian Caldwell said, his voice filled with concern. "You’re hurt. Just come home and recover. Forget about that military training; it’s not important."
He wasn’t against the military training itself; he just couldn’t bear to see Susan suffer. Her words only made her seem all the more well-behaved in his eyes. ’Sheldon ganged up on her with an outsider, and yet she’s still defending him.’
Susan really didn’t want to go back to military training, but she knew what would happen if she quit. ’Winter Sullivan will find out immediately, and Sheldon will drag me to the principal’s office. Once things blow up and everyone is forced to confront each other, I won’t be able to fool Dad anymore.’
So she said sweetly, "I’m your daughter, Dad. If other people can do it, so can I. I’m going to see the military training through to the end!"
"That’s my girl." Julian Caldwell’s heart swelled with pride. ’Susan is perfect in every way,’ he thought. ’Who could possibly call her a spoiled girl who abuses her privileges? I really need to have a serious talk with Winter about this.’
After hanging up, Julian Caldwell decided he needed to handle this matter personally. Otherwise, his own precious daughter would be bullied to death by his foolish son and that deeply calculating girl!
"Vera Xavier?" Julian Caldwell repeated the name with a frown, a deep sense of displeasure welling up inside him. A man of his stature shouldn’t meddle in such trivial matters, but now, he found himself wanting to meet this Vera Xavier in person.
