Chapter 645: Chapter 645: Mighty Mom (Part 1)
Susan Caldwell’s brow furrowed slightly, and a bad feeling immediately surfaced in her heart.
Vera Xavier continued, "I told you back in Trellis that a simple ’sorry’ can’t fix everything. I like to think of myself as a generous person. That time in Trellis, when you nearly got me killed—I was willing to treat that as an unintentional mistake. That’s why I forgave you."
"But I truly never expected you to be so narrow-minded. I forgave you, yet you kept looking for chances to hurt me. If you were only coming after me, I could have written it off as bad blood between us. I can understand you targeting me, and I could even forgive that."
"But in the process, you dragged in someone completely unrelated. To get your revenge, you stopped me from saving a man in cardiac arrest. If I had stayed behind for even a moment longer, he would have died."
"So I won’t be forgiving you this time. And we won’t be friends anymore."
Susan Caldwell truly hadn’t expected her to be so blunt. Vera wasn’t leaving her a single shred of dignity.
Just as she was about to speak, Vera Xavier cut in. "And don’t even try to say the last incident was some kind of misunderstanding. Even if it was, the fact that you knew nothing and still assumed the worst of me only proves one thing: you never once considered me a friend. It also proves that your heart is too dark and hides too much ugliness."
After speaking, she stood up and gave Winter Sullivan a small smile. "Auntie, I’ll be heading back now."
Winter Sullivan said quickly, "Please, wait a moment."
She then quickly took out a pen and paper, wrote down two numbers, and handed the note to Vera Xavier. "The top one is for my research institute, and the bottom one is for my home. You can call me anytime if you need anything. And you’re welcome to come visit during school holidays."
Vera Xavier was a little surprised. Her words to Susan Caldwell had been anything but polite, yet Winter Sullivan had still given her all of her contact information.
She couldn’t help but look at Winter Sullivan, who noticed her confusion and was about to speak when Susan Caldwell interjected, "Mom, a person like her..."
"What about her?" Winter Sullivan asked Susan. "Was everything she just said a lie?"
Susan Caldwell’s expression turned nasty. Winter Sullivan’s words were like a slap across her face. Biting her lip, Susan said, "I just think she’s too arrogant. She looks down on our Caldwell Family."
Winter Sullivan hadn’t expected her daughter to still be slandering Vera Xavier at a time like this. Winter Sullivan had always lived by her own code of conduct, and with what happened today, Susan had crossed the line.
But Susan was her daughter, after all. She couldn’t very well discipline her in front of Vera Xavier.
So she turned to Vera Xavier and said, "I really admire your character. I feel like we’ve hit it off today. If you don’t mind that I’m older, how about we become friends?"
Susan Caldwell’s face went pale with shock when she heard her mother’s words. ’How could this be allowed?!’ But she knew her mother’s unyielding personality all too well—what Winter Sullivan said, went. She had no idea what Vera had told her mother today, but it was clear Winter was now very displeased with her.
And she had already objected, but Winter Sullivan had completely ignored her.
