Chapter 624: Chapter 624: Lovesickness to the Bone (4)

Everyone froze. At the very beginning of the military training, the drill instructors had told them all one thing: the moment the assembly bugle sounded, everyone was to immediately fall in on the athletic field.

At the time, no one had really taken it to heart. They had asked the upperclassmen, who said the assembly bugle had never once been used in previous years. They told them not to worry—it was just something the instructors said to sound tough.

But could someone please tell them what the hell was going on now?

They didn’t have time to figure it out. All they could think about was how this year’s chief drill instructor was unpredictable and their own instructors were sadistic. One wrong move and they’d be punished with ten or twenty laps. ’We’ll be put through the wringer!’

With that thought, no one dared to delay. They threw on their clothes and sprinted toward the athletic field.

Someone in the crowd shouted a reminder, "Didn’t the instructor say we have to be there within two minutes of the bugle call?"

The students heard this and thought, ’Holy crap, he really did say that!’

They had just started relaxing. It wasn’t the middle of the night, but they had only been on break for a short while, and many had already changed out of their uniforms. Changing back and running to the field in under two minutes was practically impossible!

For Vera Xavier and her group, however, the situation wasn’t so bad. They hadn’t even made it back to their dorm yet, let alone changed clothes. When they heard the bugle, all they had to do was walk over to the athletic field.

After they fell into formation, they watched as a frantic crowd of students scrambled toward them.

They were a chaotic mess as they ran over. Some had buttoned their shirts wrong, others had forgotten their belts. One guy, in his haste, had run down in his pajamas, while another was wearing two completely different shoes...

One student, who had apparently just washed his hair, still had a towel wrapped around his head. Another’s hair was still covered in white lather, and he even scratched at it as he ran up. There was even a girl with a sheet mask still on her face...

Even someone as composed as Vera couldn’t help the corner of her mouth from twitching at the sight. It was a truly magnificent spectacle, the likes of which one would never normally see.

Of course, it was impossible for all the students to assemble within two minutes. At most, only half of them made it, and most of those were boys. Vera’s squad of neatly dressed girls, standing in the middle of the athletic field, stood out conspicuously.

All the students who arrived after the two-minute mark were stopped by the instructors and made to form a separate line.

After a quick roll call, the students who hadn’t shown up, presumably hoping to slip through the cracks, were all added to the instructors’ blacklist. There was no word yet on their punishment.

The large floodlights on the athletic field illuminated everyone. Sheldon Caldwell stood before them with a cold, expressionless face. "Do you remember what I said when this training began yesterday?"

No one answered. Sheldon said coldly, "With reaction times like this, you have absolutely no sense of organization or discipline. I’m going to teach you all another proper lesson today!"

Hearing this, everyone had a bad feeling.

Sheldon didn’t keep them in suspense for long. "All of you who failed to reach the athletic field within two minutes," he announced, "will run ten laps!"
