Vera Xavier’s life had been spent entirely within Crestfall, and there wasn’t a single luxury boutique in the entire city.
Let alone the fact that Vera was a young woman who had always lived in the countryside, making it virtually impossible for her to have ever encountered these things.
So, the fact that she recognized these brands was definitely abnormal.
Vera Xavier was convinced Nathaniel Nathan was setting traps for her at every turn. He looked at her and asked, "Vera Xavier, how many more things are you hiding from me?"
Hearing this made Vera Xavier’s scalp prickle. Just as she was scrambling to come up with an excuse to get through this, he spoke again. "You’ve hidden far too many things from me, and it hurts. Don’t even bother thinking of ways to appease me. Right now, the only thing that can console me is for you to pay me back with your body."
Vera Xavier was speechless.
’She really had to hand it to him! Whenever they were together, he couldn’t go three sentences without bringing up something physical!’
She took a deep breath. ’There’s no way in hell I can admit I’m still hiding things from him! Otherwise, knowing his personality, there’s no telling how he’d use this to blackmail me in the future!’
Just then, an idea flashed in her mind. She said with a serious expression, "I don’t recognize any of these brands, but my English is good! I can read the prices on the tags. They’re all in US Dollars, British Pounds, and so on. Converted to Renminbi, every single piece is outrageously expensive!"
It was true that Nathaniel Nathan had ordered these items, but he was always very busy. The clothes were sent directly to the villa after he placed the order, so he had never seen them himself. He had also forgotten to ask Ronan Tate to cut off the tags.
Ronan Tate, on the other hand, felt that clothes were personal items that he shouldn’t be touching. So, after they were delivered, he simply had someone sort and hang them up without removing the tags.
Nathaniel Nathan watched the expressions flit across Vera Xavier’s face. There was no way she could hide them from him. When her eyes first widened in surprise, she hadn’t yet seen the tags. He was certain of it. She genuinely recognized the brands.
’He felt a pang of disappointment. His silly wife, it seemed, still had many secrets.’
’And he felt like a failure, unable to get Vera to open up to him even now.’
He took a deep breath, telling himself to be patient. After all, their relationship had improved considerably. She wasn’t as timid and fearful around him as she used to be, and it had only been a little over three months since she’d been scared to death of him.
So he couldn’t rush things. They had decades ahead of them. He refused to believe he couldn’t unearth his wife’s little secrets eventually!
When Vera Xavier saw Nathaniel Nathan looking at her with an unreadable half-smile, her heart began to pound nervously. And yet, she was certain there was nothing wrong with the excuse she had just given.
So, she cleared her throat and asked, "What is it?"
The intensity in Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes subsided. "It’s nothing," he said mildly. "I just wanted to let you know that even though you’re my sugar mama, I’m not actually poor. I can afford to buy you a few clothes."
His mild yet mocking tone sent a shiver down Vera’s spine. For some reason, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d seen through her.
’But she was convinced that no matter what he figured out, he could never guess that she had been reborn!’
’This was one secret she would never tell him! Since he loved guessing so much, he could just guess to his heart’s content!’
Vera Xavier giggled. "Oh, so you used your own money for these? In that case, I can rest easy."
