Chapter 498: Being Kept (4)
Chapter 498: Chapter 498: Being Kept (4)
Vera Xavier felt that Nathaniel Nathan had done so much for her, it would be heartless to say she didn’t like the style. She ran happily into the villa and asked, "Nathaniel Nathan, is this your house? It’s beautiful!"
Seeing her reaction, Ronan Tate became even more certain of his previous guess: Nathaniel Nathan had indeed bought this house for Vera Xavier. He looked at Vera’s expression and silently labeled her with a single word: ’Shallow!’
Nathaniel Nathan said nonchalantly, "No. This is your house."
Vera Xavier froze for a moment. Nathaniel Nathan handed her a property deed. "Here. It’s your house. This is the proof."
This time, it wasn’t just Vera who was stunned. Even Ronan Tate was frozen in place. ’So, I’ve actually been helping renovate Vera Xavier’s house all this time?’ he thought. ’What a painful realization!’
Vera took the property deed and glanced at it. She swallowed hard. Sure enough, her name was the only one on it.
She was incredibly curious how Nathaniel Nathan had managed to get the property deed processed without her even being there.
What she didn’t know was that this was shortly after the 1992 housing reforms, so the regulations for such matters weren’t yet strict.
Nathaniel Nathan was in no mood to explain all that. He simply said in a placid tone, "You once said you wanted to keep me. So, I’ll be living here from now on to give you the chance."
The moment he finished speaking, Ronan Tate erupted into a fit of violent coughing. Nathaniel shot him a cold glance. "I’m giving you a half-day off. Go home and get some rest."
Ronan Tate had choked on his own spit. He felt like he must have missed something over the past few months. Otherwise, how could his cool, aloof young master possibly say something like that!
He glanced over at Vera Xavier and saw that she looked just as bewildered. He instantly felt much better, nodded in acknowledgment, and left the villa.
Vera truly hadn’t expected him to remember her joke from before. At the time, she was just trying to lighten the mood. She giggled. "So I’m capable of keeping someone now, huh?" ’I feel so awesome!’ she thought.
A gentle look filled Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes, though his face remained mostly expressionless. Then, very calmly, he said, "Normally, whether it’s a man keeping a woman or a woman keeping a man, the goal is for them to warm your bed."
Vera thought she had gotten used to his pace recently, but after hearing that, she realized she had still underestimated his firepower.
He calmly took three steps toward her, stopping right in front of her. He leaned in slightly, so close their breaths mingled.
She wanted to take a step back to create some distance, but she also felt she couldn’t let him have the upper hand every time. So she forced herself to get used to his presence and stood her ground.
She would never, ever let Nathaniel Nathan know that she was actually a little nervous and her heart was racing.
’Seriously, being this handsome should be a crime!’
Nathaniel saw how stiff she was and wanted to laugh, but his face remained a blank mask. He asked with unruffled calm, "So, my great benefactor, when do you plan on having me warm your bed for you? Hmm?"
Vera truly hadn’t expected him to be so direct. The rising inflection in his voice was like a taut string on a violin, plucking directly at her heartstrings.
She couldn’t take it anymore. She let out a nervous laugh. "Warm the bed, you say? Well then, I’d better go take a look at the bed first!"
The moment the words left her mouth, she wanted to slap herself. ’What on earth am I even saying?!’ she thought.
