Chapter 473: A Little Guilty (5)
Chapter 473: Chapter 473: A Little Guilty (5)
Vera Xavier knew with growing certainty that they were bound together for life. Her fear of him had faded as she got to know him better, and their time together was no longer as awkward as it had been at first.
Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes sparkled with delight. He reached out, lifted her chin, and asked, "Are you sure?"
"I’m fine with it," Vera Xavier said softly. "But I still haven’t met your parents. I don’t know if they’ll like me or if they’ll oppose our marriage."
She was stating a simple fact. Without the approval of Nathaniel Nathan’s parents, the marriage was still very much up in the air.
It wasn’t that she minded making their engagement public, but that didn’t mean they could do so just yet.
Nathaniel Nathan knew how his parents thought. His mother, in particular, was a stickler for social status. Announcing their marriage now would likely infuriate them.
And a marriage without his family’s blessing would be, to some extent, unfair to Vera Xavier. He needed to plan this matter carefully.
He reached out to gently stroke her face. "Let’s go to Veridia together."
The start of the school semester was just over half a month away. The journey was long—a full three days by train alone—so it was about time to head for Veridia.
Vera Xavier thought for a moment. "I still have a few things to take care of here..."
"To acquire the land and build your pharmaceutical factory, right?" Nathaniel Nathan asked in a deep voice.
Vera Xavier gave a light cough, not denying it. Nathaniel Nathan continued, "I’ve already had someone find several plots of land. You can check them out tomorrow. Once you decide on one, you can have Yorke Young oversee it for you."
"Yorke Young?" For a moment, Vera Xavier couldn’t place the name.
Nathaniel Nathan explained, "He’s Aaron Cheney’s uncle. He was the one who cut that piece of Emperor Green jade. He owns a stone processing factory, but business isn’t great. He’ll do an excellent job overseeing the construction."
Vera Xavier was completely in awe of his efficiency. He had thought of everything so quickly and made the most logical arrangements.
As if reading her mind, he added, "You’re working hard dealing with the scum at home. I can’t just sit around doing nothing."
Vera Xavier snuggled into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck. "It’s so wonderful to have you. But you’re always so busy. You don’t have to trouble yourself with these little things in the future. I can handle them myself!"
"You think I want to worry about all this?" Nathaniel Nathan snorted. "I’m marrying a woman who’s full of secrets. How can I not?"
Vera Xavier: "..."
’Falling for a guy who was both arrogant and sharp-tongued,’ Vera Xavier thought, ’was an experience she didn’t know whether to celebrate or lament.’
Nathaniel Nathan asked her, "Vera Xavier, how many more secrets are you hiding from me?"
Vera Xavier immediately swore, "I’ve told you absolutely everything!"
Nathaniel Nathan stared at her for a long moment before snorting. "Fine. I’ll believe you this one last time."
Vera Xavier felt the sudden urge to wipe sweat from her brow. ’Marrying a man this formidable is tough. My little schemes are completely transparent to him. Is it too late for regrets?’
That night, Vera Xavier slept restlessly. Lying next to such a powerfully masculine man made her feel inexplicably on edge.
’They might have slept in the same bed a few times before, but this was different!’
’He was holding her in his arms as she slept, and she could clearly feel him pressed against her the entire time. It was maddening!’
