Chapter 426: Pleasant Cooperation
Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Pleasant Cooperation
Alistair Forrest hung up as soon as he finished speaking. The contract was now finalized. Once both parties signed, it would officially go into effect.
Master Forrest chuckled when he heard that, muttering playfully into the phone, "You little rascal! Twenty-four years old, and you still think you’re young? We’ll see where you can run when you get back this time. Hurry up, get married, and give me a great-grandchild to hold!"
If Alistair Forrest had known about his grandfather’s intentions, he probably wouldn’t have dared to return to Marinus.
After signing, Vera Xavier said, "You transferred an extra ten million to my account earlier. I’ll send it back to you in a bit."
"No need to return it. Just consider it a ten-year advance on your salary," Alistair Forrest said with a smile.
Vera Xavier shot him a glare. "Thank you, but that’s not necessary. I only take the amount stipulated in the contract. That’s my principle."
She then added, "If you won’t take it back, I can donate it to a charity on behalf of the Forrest Group. I’m sure many people will be grateful for the Forrest Group’s generosity. Allow me to thank you in advance on behalf of the children in remote mountain regions."
Alistair Forrest: "..."
Vera Xavier then said, "But you still have to pay my salary for next year as usual. If you don’t, I’ll go on strike!"
Alistair Forrest: "..."
Hearing her say that, he instantly understood. Her philosophy on money was that she would only take what she was owed; she wouldn’t accept a single penny more if it wasn’t hers.
He took a deep breath and said, "In that case, you’d better just give the money back to me!"
Vera Xavier let out a light chuckle. With that one smile, her normally cool and distant features seemed to be instantly warmed by a gentle spring, making her whole person radiant. A hint of playfulness and charm even appeared in the corners of her eyes.
It was the first time Alistair Forrest had ever seen her like this. He was instantly captivated, and his heart began to race.
Seeing Alistair Forrest’s somewhat dazed expression, Vera Xavier frowned slightly. ’He’s never been normal in my book, anyway,’ she thought, so she didn’t pay it any mind.
She simply put away her copy of the contract, looked at Alistair Forrest coolly, and said, "Mr. Forrest, it’s a pleasure doing business with you."
After speaking, she extended her hand. Alistair Forrest let out a long sigh, took her hand, and said, "This is the happiest moment of my day."
Vera Xavier raised an eyebrow. ’He really is something else...’
She pulled her hand back, shot him a sideways glance, then turned and walked away.
Alistair Forrest laughed while watching her walk away and let out a whistle. She couldn’t even be bothered to look back.
He shouted, "Honey, remember to come visit me in Marinus when you have time!"
Vera Xavier waved a hand and shouted back, "Alright! And when I do, I’ll be sure to bring my boyfriend along!"
Alistair Forrest scoffed at her. "It’s always ’my boyfriend’ this and ’my boyfriend’ that. Don’t you have anything better to talk about?"
Vera Xavier couldn’t be bothered to say anything more. She just opened the door and walked out.
As she came out and turned her head, she saw Nathaniel Nathan standing near the corner. She froze for a second. ’So he was eavesdropping this whole time.’
Of course, Nathaniel Nathan wouldn’t admit to eavesdropping. "That guy is obviously bad news. I came to protect you."
Vera Xavier knew his hearing and eyesight were far superior to an ordinary person’s. He had almost certainly heard most of her conversation with Alistair Forrest in the room.
In fact, he had wanted to accompany her this morning, but she had been afraid that the two men, with their starkly different personalities, would get into a fight over the slightest disagreement. She had to spend a good while placating him before he agreed not to come. Even so, he was scowling when she left the house.
