The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First

Chapter 227: Asking for a Beating

Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Asking for a Beating

Behind them, Kevin Keane, Blake Blue, and the others exchanged confused glances. Who were these two? They seemed to have a grudge against the Dawson Family, but looking at the Dawsons’ reactions, it felt more like enemies delivering themselves right to their doorstep to get killed. Moreover, their expressions were uniformly awful, each looking worse than the last.

Miles Dawson was so furious that sparks burst from his fingertips. CRACKLE. Fire spewed from his palms; he clearly couldn’t suppress his rage any longer.

Rhonda Dawson stared blankly at the man in front of her. He was thinner than before the apocalypse, and a lot of white hair had sprouted at his temples, making him look exceptionally haggard. Luna Dawson turned to look at her sister. The message in her eyes was obvious: if Rhonda didn’t have the heart to do it, she would.

Rhonda squeezed her sister’s hand back slightly. She turned to Dylan Rhodes and spoke coldly, her voice completely flat, "We cut ties a long time ago. Just leave."

Dylan felt a sting in his heart at her sheer indifference. He also sensed the suppressed, almost tangible murderous intent radiating from Luna beside her! It was the unvarnished bloodlust a High-level Superpower User exhibited only when facing their prey!

Kevin and the rest immediately exchanged a look, instantly understanding the situation. These two clowns were the Dawsons’ enemies! The warmth in everyone’s eyes vanished, replaced by a piercing killing intent. Faint fluctuations of superpowers emanated from them, making the air feel heavy and stagnant.

Dylan and Monica Bishop were severely suppressed by the aura of the High-level Superpower Users. Cold sweat broke out in an instant. Fear washed over them like a tidal wave, making their legs tremble. Dylan couldn’t help but take a step back. He stumbled and nearly fell flat on his back.

He gulped. Seeing Rhonda’s glamorous appearance, the resentment and paranoia in his heart grew wildly. Deciding he had nothing to lose, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "I’m still Hector’s biological father! You can’t stop me from seeing my son!"

Monica’s eyes lit up as if she had caught a lifeline. She immediately wailed along, "That’s right! Hector is of the Rhodes Family’s blood! You have to let us see our grandson!"

"Exactly! If Hector hadn’t mentioned before the apocalypse that you came to Kensington, I wouldn’t have been able to find this place!" Dylan stared fixedly at Rhonda, the paranoia and fervor in his eyes almost burning a hole through her.

In his heart, he hated Luna to the core. It was all this little bitch’s fault! If it weren’t for her, Wendy and Hector wouldn’t be living such a good life! They would have been driven into a corner long ago and had no choice but to obediently return home with him!

The more he thought about it, the more worked up he got. Unable to control himself, he lunged forward, reaching out to grab Rhonda’s wrist.

"You’re asking for it!" Luna’s gaze turned sharp. Before his hand could touch Rhonda, she raised her leg and delivered a clean side kick squarely to his chest!

THUD!

With a heavy thud, Dylan flew backward like a broken sack, crashing onto the stone-paved road several meters away. A mouthful of fresh blood spewed from his lips, staining the front of his clothes red.

"Get lost!" Luna’s voice was as cold as ice, and a bloodthirsty hostility surged in her eyes.

Rhonda watched him curl up in pain. As if recalling something incredibly disgusting, she knitted her brows and took a step forward. Her voice was devoid of any warmth. "For the sake of you being Hector’s father, I advise you to stop doing things that will break his heart. Get the hell out of here, and never show your face again.

"You know perfectly well why we divorced, and you know exactly how I got this scar on my head!"

Upon hearing this, Miles’s temper flared up instantly! Kevin and the others’ eyes turned icy cold as well. This scumbag had actually dared to lay a hand on Rhonda in the past?!

"Fuck you!" Miles roared furiously. Taking the lead, he rushed forward and kicked Dylan right in the lower back. "I wanted to kill you the moment you laid a hand on my sister! You were lucky there were laws protecting you before! Now that you’ve delivered yourself to my doorstep, I’ll beat your teeth in, or my last name isn’t Dawson!"

Kevin and Blake exchanged a glance, a flash of realization passing through their eyes. So this was the deadweight Luna had mentioned before. Why hold back then? Without another word, they rolled up their sleeves, rushed forward, and rained merciless punches and kicks upon him.

Lynn Shelby knew exactly what to do. He strolled over and locked the courtyard door with a loud CLANG. Ah, yes, trapping the dog before beating it—this would prevent the bastard from getting up and making a run for it.

Seeing her son pinned to the ground and beaten, Monica was scared out of her wits. She screamed and threw herself forward to stop them, "Stop hitting him! Stop it! You’re going to kill him!"

"Shut up!" Aaron Palmer cast a cold glance at her. With a casual wave of his hand, a small cluster of fire blades brushed past her cheek with a WHOOSH, severing a lock of hair by her ear.

Terrified into instant silence, Monica turned deadly pale. She covered her ear and froze in place, not daring to move a muscle.

In the courtyard, Dylan’s muffled groans of pain rose and fell, mixed with Miles’s angry curses. "That’s for hitting my sister! You animal! And you still dared to come here and cause trouble today! I’m going to beat the shit out of you, or I’ve lived my life in vain!"

The dull thuds of fists and feet landing on his body made Monica tremble all over, but she didn’t dare make a peep. Luna waited until Dylan was beaten into a limp ragdoll—his face swollen beyond recognition and having long since passed out—before she finally raised her hand to call a halt. "Alright, stop. If you keep hitting him, he’ll actually die."

Still not satisfied, Miles delivered two more vicious kicks before stopping. He spat while panting heavily, "We let this son of a bitch off too easy!"

Only then did Monica dare to pounce over. Seeing her son unconscious, she was scared witless. She knelt on the ground, crying out and pleading for mercy, "Wendy... Please, show some mercy... He’s Hector’s father too. We really don’t have any other intentions; we just want to be with Hector..."

The name ’Hector’ was like an ice-cold blade twisting ruthlessly in Rhonda’s heart. She sneered, her laughter filled with a chilling aura that made people’s scalps tingle. "Hector? You have the nerve to bring up Hector? When he hit me back then, Hector was only four years old. He hugged his legs and cried, begging him not to hit his mother. And what did he do?"

Monica’s face drained of color. She averted her eyes, and whatever shred of luck she had hoped for was instantly shattered into pieces.

"He violently shoved Hector away! He used so much force that the child was thrown directly against the wall, snapping his arm!" Rhonda’s voice suddenly pitched higher, her eyes surging with a long-suppressed hatred. "You were so ’kind’ to send us both to the hospital, but then you turned around and cursed me outside the ward, calling me a slut and suspecting that Hector wasn’t of the Rhodes Family’s blood! You secretly took Hector to do a paternity test behind my back. Did you really think I didn’t know anything?!"

Every single event, every single incident, was an indelible mark of humiliation and pain carved into her very bones. Monica wilted completely. She slumped on the ground, unable to speak, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.

After saying this, Rhonda seemed to have exhausted all her strength, yet it also felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted from her shoulders. She stepped forward, a faint halo of light glowing at her fingertips, and began to heal Dylan.

Monica’s eyes lit up. As if clutching at a lifeline, she quickly crawled over. "Wendy! Wendy, you’ve forgiven us, haven’t you? It was all our fault in the past. You’ve always been generous, so please don’t hold it against us! Now that you’ve taken out your anger, why don’t you come back with us so we can live a good life together?"
