Chapter 550: Chapter 473: Filing a Police Report (3)

Tears streamed down Yang Liu’er’s face as she turned away. "Of course I remember."

Bai Junfan gently wiped her tears away and turned her face to his. "We’re meant to spend our lives together. A lifetime is long, and things are never perfectly smooth for anyone. We’re bound to run into problems here and there, but you have to trust me. I will always love you and protect you! You can’t just get upset and make a scene over a small conflict, talking about breaking up and cutting all ties. Do you know how much that hurts me? How could we possibly split up? Liu’er, you have to admit it. You can’t live without me, and I can’t lose you. We’ve grown into one. We can never be separated!"

Yang Liu’er kept her head down, tears streaming uncontrollably. But she didn’t lean into Bai Junfan’s embrace. She knew that at times like this, she had to stay rational and keep a clear head—a lesson learned through countless bitter experiences.

Besides, a heart, once fractured, doesn’t mend so easily.

She pushed Bai Junfan’s hand away and roughly wiped at her own tears. Taking a deep breath, she looked at him with a tragically beautiful smile and said:

"Brother Jun Fan, you may have lived with me in Pan Kou Village for all those years, but at the end of the day, you’re a member of the Bai Family. You have the same blood as Bai Qingyue and the rest of them. So it’s no surprise you see me the same way they do—as Yang Liu’er, the uneducated, inexperienced, narrow-minded, and dim-witted girl from the countryside. You all thought that in the Bai Mansion, I was only fit to be a maid, someone you could just toss a bowl of rice to and be done with it! Thankfully, I left. The moment I walked out of the Bai Mansion, I found countless opportunities waiting for me! So now, please stop looking at me the way you used to, because I’m not that same Yang Liu’er anymore. These past two years have been incredibly meaningful. I’ve worked hard to better myself by studying, running a business, and making friends. A person’s wealth isn’t just money; knowledge and friendship are equally important. While earning money, I focused even more on my overall development, enriching and improving myself. So, Brother Jun Fan, the Yang Liu’er you see now is still that girl from Pan Kou Village, but she has a mind and a will of her own! Stop treating me like a child, and stop trying to string me along!"

Bai Junfan stared intently at Yang Liu’er. He took several deep breaths to compose himself, his voice hoarse when he finally spoke. "Liu’er, I’m so happy to see you grow and change like this. It’s wonderful. But I never intended to string you along. Not ever!"

"You have! You always have."

"Then you tell me. What would convince you that I’m not?"

"Let’s get back to basics. Let’s be practical, focus on results, and get straight to the point. Cut the crap."

"Fine. Then perhaps the ’wise’ Miss Yang Liu’er could enlighten me as to where we should begin?"

"Would Mr. Bai be amenable to a Q&A format?"

"Fine."

"Ladies first. I’ll ask, you’ll answer. Then it’s your turn. Let’s begin. Question one: You just said I’m not a kid anymore, and you’re right. I’m in my mid-twenties, and people are already calling me an old maid. It’s time I found a reliable man to marry. You and I have been intimate for a long time now. So, if you’re not going to let me go, will you take me to see Old Master Bai and ask him to personally approve our marriage?"

Bai Junfan: "..."

’Hitting him with a question that big right off the bat... Yang Liu’er was doing it on purpose!’

But Bai Junfan was no ordinary man. His mind raced, and he quickly came up with a reply. "Liu’er, you’re still in college. How can you get married? That’s something we can only discuss after you graduate."

Yang Liu’er glanced up at him, then turned and strode away. "Bai Junfan, if you’re not going to be serious about this, don’t waste my time. This conversation is over!"

"Liu’er! What do you mean I’m not being serious? Explain yourself!" Bai Junfan chased after her, blocking her path.

"Did I say we had to get married right this second? All I asked was for you to take me to see the Old Master, tell him about our situation, and get his personal blessing for our marriage. And you don’t even have the guts to do that!"

"You have to at least give me some time to prepare! Fine! I promise you. In a couple of days, I’ll take you home to see my grandfather!"

"Just to see your grandfather? Is that it?"

Bai Junfan’s brow furrowed. He really wasn’t used to being backed into a corner, especially not by his own woman—his normally gentle and docile Liu’er. "Don’t worry. I’ll bring it up when we’re there. I’ll make sure you’re satisfied."

"You know what? Never mind. This whole thing is starting to feel like a forced marriage, and it’s not like I, Yang Liu’er, have no other prospects."

Yang Liu’er waved her hand dismissively and walked off. Bai Junfan paused for a second, then gritted his teeth and went after her.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a young couple that looked like college students having a lovers’ quarrel nearby, the boy chasing after the girl. He gave a bitter, internal laugh. ’This is so damn messed up. She’s already my woman, yet I still have to waste all this energy chasing after her like this!’
