The Abandoned Daughter's Second Chance

Chapter 537 - 466: Pointless

Chapter 537: Chapter 466: Pointless

Shielded by Bai Junfan, Tang Yaxuan saw that Yang Liu’er was no longer trying to hit her, but was instead locked in a gaze with Brother Junfan. ’Her eyes are so beautiful,’ Tang Yaxuan thought. ’How did novels describe them again? Misty and shimmering, filled with flirtatious affection, captivating and sultry...’ A deep hatred welled up inside her. Taking a quiet breath, she stretched out her arms, which trembled with fear, and wrapped them around Bai Junfan’s waist from behind. She began to sob quietly, making broken, whimpering sounds like someone muttering in their sleep:

"Brother Junfan, I’m scared! I... I want to go home, but if Mom... if she sees me like this..."

Bai Junfan lowered his gaze and turned slightly to pat Tang Yaxuan’s back a couple of times. "Don’t be scared," he soothed. "I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up and to get your cuts treated. Then I’ll take you home. I’ll explain everything to your mother."

Tang Yaxuan sniffled and nodded meekly. "Thank you, Brother Junfan."

"Okay. You just wait here for a moment. I’m going to say a few words to your Sister Liu’er, and then we’ll leave."

Bai Junfan’s voice was soft and gentle, deliberately adopting the attitude of an older brother toward a younger sister. He wanted Yang Liu’er to see clearly that he treated Tang Yaxuan the same way he treated his sisters, Bai Tingting and Bai Lili, at home. There were no romantic feelings between them whatsoever.

But once again, he had overlooked Yang Liu’er’s "dream."

In that dream, he had cast Yang Liu’er aside to marry Tang Yaxuan. The two had a glorious wedding, making their union official, and then flaunted their deep, passionate love right in front of Yang Liu’er... The Gu and Tang Families had not even formally dissolved their engagement, yet Bai Junfan had already begun pursuing her, chasing her from G Province all the way back to Beijing, right up until they were wed.

Yang Liu’er had witnessed all of it: the grand, moving, and romantic moments exclusive to a married couple, the very scenes that showcased their noble and beautiful love. For him to now tell her that his relationship with Tang Yaxuan was merely the pure friendship of a brother and sister? To Yang Liu’er, this was the biggest joke in the world.

Even if Bai Junfan and Tang Yaxuan had truly done nothing more than sleep in each other’s arms last night, Yang Liu’er would never believe they were innocent.

Yang Liu’er watched them interact, her expression blank and her gaze frigid. Tang Yaxuan’s arms remained wrapped around Bai Junfan’s waist like ivy. He didn’t immediately remove them; instead, he sat on the edge of the bed and patiently consoled her. It was only when he made to stand up that Tang Yaxuan obediently withdrew her hands.

Yang Liu’er let out a long breath. Her earlier, reckless rampage had served as a release, and now the tightness in her chest finally eased. She could feel that her heart, which had been torn into a gaping hole, was now utterly empty. It seemed nothing was left inside—not even her profound love and obsession for Bai Junfan. They had vanished completely.

She frowned, her eyes sweeping over the bedroom she had so carefully decorated. Suddenly, none of it was pleasing to look at anymore. Everything felt so meaningless. ’To be wasting my time getting tangled up with a pair like this,’ she thought, ’it’s completely absurd!’

’I’d be better off going back to design a few more spring blouses. At least I could earn some more money.’

Bai Junfan walked over to Yang Liu’er, but before he could speak, she brushed her hands together without even looking at him and turned to walk out. Her tone was as detached as if she were giving instructions to a handyman. "Do me a favor and lock up on your way out. You should probably clean up, too. After all, you’re the ones who stayed the night. I’m very busy, so I probably won’t be back for the next three to five days. This house is too small and has no character. I don’t want it anymore. In a little while, I’ll have someone sell it for me."

Bai Junfan froze for a moment, then strode after her. "Liu’er, we need to talk!"

"There’s nothing to talk about, Mr. Bai. We’re finished." Moving with the grace of a willow, Yang Liu’er swept through the living room and out the door like a gust of wind. She even remembered to grab the soy milk and fried dough sticks she had bought on her way. ’They’re freshly made,’ she thought. ’I can take them to the office and share some with Lu Jianling.’
