Take My Breath Away

Chapter 927 - She Was Happy

It was the middle of the night. As soon as Sheffield had a break from surgery, he sent a message to Evelyn. "Happy birthday, honey! I just stepped out of the OR. My birthday wish for you is to be safe and happy forever! And when you make a wish, make sure it's to marry me!"

Evelyn woke up at past seven o'clock the next morning. When she saw the message, she couldn't help but giggle. He had sent it at about 2 a.m.

'He was up late. Probably still asleep. I'll call later.'

Today, Evelyn was dressed in an outfit of light apricot: wool wide-leg pants, a wool coat with a white, thin cashmere sweater underneath, and black high heels.

Sheffield picked those out for her.

She walked into her collection room, took out a set of diamond jewels decorated with yellow gemstones and a white handbag.

The jewelry and the purse were also gifts from Sheffield. She was going to pay for them herself, but Sheffield wouldn't hear of it. He insisted on paying for them.

He told her that she needed to wear this outfit on her birthday. That was how she could show him he was important to her.

Evelyn felt he was like a spoiled brat. To make him happy, she found it was easier to just do as he said.

Although Carlos didn't ask her to go to work today, she still had a meeting with a business partner. So essentially, she was working. As soon as she emerged from the car, the flashes of cameras greeted her. This was not ZL Group, but the other company whose representative she was meeting. The paparazzi followed her to the entrance to the building.

Then the reporters posted all the photos of her on the Internet. The headlines read, "Evelyn Huo, the Most Stylish Socialite Princess."

They weren't wrong—she looked like royalty in the pale apricot outfit and red lipstick.

And she just happened to be extremely photogenic. Any one of those photos they took could have been taken at a professional photo shoot. Evelyn once again went viral on the Internet.

Then, some netizen did some looking and figured out the price of her outfit. The clothes were the latest offerings from an international brand and cost $360, 000, and the sweater alone was 80 grand.

The handbag was a limited edition set by ZL Group. It was worth at least $660, 000. The sunglasses were a famous French brand, which cost 150 big ones.

Not to mention the jewelry she was wearing, worth at least a million.

Some people tried to find out what brand of lipstick she was wearing.

Some of the netizens knew what they were doing. Eventually it came out it was an old, classic brand. This eye-catching and fancy lipstick already had a reputation, even before release. It was a new series from that old brand called Queen's Crown. It was so expensive it was like the Lamborghini of the lipstick world.

Each set contained eight shades, four matte and the other four shiny. The whole set, box included, cost over fifty thousand dollars.

It was first seen in France a few days ago. While everyone was falling all over themselves trying to scrape up the cash, it was finally purchased by a mysterious man.

She was all the rage on social media, and people were saying that this lipstick was fit for a queen, a queen like Evelyn.

Commenters were also speculating if the mysterious man was Calvert. He was linked to her, after all.

Evelyn didn't know anything about all this. When she got back to the manor, Terilynn pulled her aside and said in a whisper, "Hey, Sis! You know what? You're trending right now. People are wondering if Calvert bought your lipstick. Is that true?"

Terilynn wasn't normally a gossip girl. But now that this matter had become a trending topic online and Evelyn was involved, she was intrigued.

Evelyn was surprised. Of course, she didn't know yet she had become the most searched for celeb. She shook her head. "No, not him."

'Not Calvert?' Terilynn understood. "Sheffield?" asked Terilynn in a low voice.

Apparently, she couldn't hide it anymore if Terilynn knew. So she decided to just be honest about her and Sheffield. "Yes."

When they arrived at her apartment last night, Sheffield took out the box of lipstick from the trunk and gave it to her. At that time, he said, "This is a rare set of lipstick. Use it, or make me cry!"

Evelyn was struck speechless then.

She didn't have to open the box to figure out the lipstick was manufactured by a famous French company with a long history. She kept up with the latest fashion news, so she knew that this was the only set made thus far.

But limited editions like these weren't even for sale. She wondered how Sheffield had managed to get it. When she asked about it, the man answered in a plain tone, "I asked a friend to bring it back from France." That was the only thing he said about it.

Evelyn's reply stunned Terilynn. "He seems like a pretty great guy, huh?" Whose side should she take? Her father's? Or Sheffield's?

After all, Sheffield nearly killed her sister. She didn't want to be on his side.

But she hesitated when she saw that Evelyn was much happier and more upbeat than before.

After a short pause, Evelyn answered, "Yes."

"Cool! So what did he get you for your birthday?" Terilynn asked curiously.

Evelyn had long ago accepted Terilynn's prying. She decided not to hide it from her. "He bought a lot of things for me yesterday, but he didn't say which one was the birthday present," she said honestly. Maybe the whole thing was the gift. After a while, she added, "Maybe it was the lollipop."

After all, Sheffield had personally told Carlos that he wanted to buy a lollipop as a birthday gift for her.

Terilynn's eyes went wide with shock. 'That's a first.' "Did you invite him to your birthday party?" she asked.

"Not yet. I figured I'd call him later." No matter what the future might bring, it was her birthday. She hoped that Sheffield could come. It would make the day perfect.

"Nice! Don't give up, Sis. I will support you, whatever you decide!" The happiness in Evelyn's eyes moved Terilynn. She decided to side with Evelyn and Sheffield.

Evelyn went upstairs and looked down at the first floor. Debbie was in the living room, trying to get ahold of a pastry shop. She told the bakery the desserts must be delivered to the manor on time. Then she called the florist and asked the flowers to be delivered earlier.

Several servants were helping move tables and chairs, and there were also professional chefs on hand. They were starting to prepare dinner.

Evelyn smiled and felt quite happy now.

She went back to her bedroom and looked up the news. As expected, there were many admiring comments. And most of them sent their blessings to her and Calvert.

Evelyn wondered if she and Sheffield would get the people's blessing one day.

She called Sheffield, but to her surprise, his phone was powered off.

She called him a dozen more times, but his phone was still off.

That afternoon, it was the same story. She asked Tayson to go to Sheffield's apartment to check it out.

Later, Tayson told her Sheffield's apartment was empty. And the car he liked to drive wasn't in the parking lot either.
