Chapter 409: Inappropriate Jealousy
Chapter 409: Chapter 409: Inappropriate Jealousy
Wu Jingjing was very unhappy with her sister’s behavior. It wasn’t ladylike.
Wu Qiaoqiao gave a wry smile and shook her head. "Sister, I think I’ve fallen for someone I shouldn’t have."
"What?" Wu Jingjing was stunned. "Qiaoqiao, who have you fallen for?"
’My sister was just staring at that beautiful woman. Could it be that she likes women?’
’That’s impossible. My sister is so pretty herself, why would she fall for an even prettier woman?’
’Wait, the look in her eyes just now was clearly jealousy. Maybe she’s just jealous of that woman’s beauty!’
Wu Jingjing turned her head. The man who was so intimate with that woman was the tall man sitting beside her.
He looked a little familiar. ’Who is he?’
Just then, Hua Yusen looked up and over in their direction, spotting Wu Jingjing and Wu Qiaoqiao.
Only then did Wu Jingjing get a clear look at the man. It was Hua Yusen, who had been making waves in Jincheng City recently.
’How could Qiaoqiao have feelings for Hua Yusen?’
But that Hua Yusen was already married. He just hadn’t held the wedding ceremony because he had to cancel it for a mission a while back.
’That’s right, a mission.’
She had a rough idea of where Hua Yusen had been on his mission. It was probably Lizhou, and her younger sister had been in Lizhou too. ’Could they have met in Lizhou?’
Hua Yusen nodded a greeting from a distance, and Wu Qiaoqiao responded with a radiant smile and a nod of her own.
Seeing her sister’s expression, Wu Jingjing grew anxious. She lowered her voice and whispered, "Qiaoqiao, that Hua Yusen is already married. He just hasn’t had the ceremony yet. You shouldn’t get any ideas."
Wu Qiaoqiao smiled, but her expression was a bit downcast and her eyes looked distant. She wasn’t shy about her sister seeing through her, nor was she ready to give up just because she couldn’t have Hua Yusen.
Wu Qiaoqiao would never speak of the thoughts buried deep in her heart, not even to the sister she was closest to.
"Sister, I understand everything you’re saying, so please don’t say any more. Let’s just enjoy our lunch," Wu Qiaoqiao said softly. Her family’s so-called comfort and advice would only make her feel worse, adding to the weight of her inner turmoil. ’Perhaps one day my self-control will break, and it will all come bursting out.’
Hearing her sister evade the main point, Wu Jingjing sighed internally. Her sister hadn’t grown up by her side, and although they were close, she didn’t truly understand her.
"Alright, it’s rare for the two of us to get out and enjoy a quiet lunch together. I’ve already ordered your favorite cake," Wu Jingjing said softly. "Let’s just say this is me celebrating your birthday a little early!"
"Thank you, Sister! I’m so happy!" Wu Qiaoqiao smiled. Seeing that her gentle sister had finally moved on from the shadow of Li Gongming, she felt happy for her too. "Sister, you’re the person I’m closest to. I hope you’ll support me in whatever I do in the future!"
"You’re my sister, so of course I should support you, no matter what you do. But if I see you’re doing something wrong and still support you, it would only let you go further down the wrong path! Do you think that would be right?"
"Okay, okay, Sister, I was just joking. If I do something wrong, you have to tell me right away. That’s what a good sister would do!" Wu Qiaoqiao knew her sister’s boundaries, so she quickly changed her tune, not wanting to continue the conversation.
’If my sister knew I wanted to steal Zhao Nuanyue’s husband and get involved with a married man, she would be furious and disappointed.’
Wu Jingjing nodded. She knew something was on her sister’s mind, but she just didn’t want to talk about it.
’I’ll drop it for now,’ she thought. ’I’ll find a better time to talk to her and tell her not to pine after men who aren’t meant for her.’
After Wu Qiaoqiao and Wu Jingjing looked away, Zhao Nuanyue leaned in and whispered in Hua Yusen’s ear, "Why was that woman staring at you just now? Do you know her?"
Seeing that Zhao Nuanyue had specifically asked about it, Hua Yusen turned to carefully study her expression, worried she had gotten the wrong idea.
Fortunately, Zhao Nuanyue seemed to be asking casually, with no particular expression on her face. Hua Yusen slowly breathed a sigh of relief and then smiled. "I met her in Lizhou while I was on a mission. Her name is Wu Qiaoqiao, the second daughter of the Wu Family. The reason I nodded to her is that Elder Gu is allied with the Wu Family now, so I have some dealings with them. But that’s it, really!"
Zhao Nuanyue’s short question had prompted such a long explanation from Hua Yusen.
"Oh, so that’s how it is. But when I looked over, her expression seemed a bit strange. It didn’t look like the way you’d look at a friend!" Zhao Nuanyue gave Hua Yusen a half-smile, waiting to see how he would explain himself.
"Heh... heh..." Hua Yusen laughed awkwardly. He had also sensed Wu Qiaoqiao trying to get close to him back in Lizhou, but he had avoided her. He didn’t want to get too familiar with her; after all, he was a married man and had to maintain a proper distance from his female colleagues.
"Nuanyue, you have to believe me. There’s really nothing between us. It’s just a normal, professional relationship," Hua Yusen stressed. He didn’t want his new wife to misunderstand. "Besides, when I’m on a mission, I usually have Liu Jian and the others with me. I’m never alone with any one person."
Hearing Hua Yusen’s explanation, Zhao Nuanyue nodded and said, "Cases of unrequited love are all too common. I believe you, but when other people see how outstanding and wonderful you are, they might get ideas. So, having people around you when you’re working really is a good way to avoid misunderstandings!"
"Okay, I’ve got it. I’ll definitely keep my distance. I won’t get involved with any other women!" Hua Yusen quickly promised, afraid that if he was a second too slow, Zhao Nuanyue would become suspicious.
Across the table, Zhao Nuan Yang and Little Red Carp were eating. Listening to their sister and brother-in-law talking back and forth, they exchanged glances and stifled their laughter.
"HAHA..." Little Red Carp, with her lively personality, finally couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing. "Oh my, Sister’s jealous, and Brother-in-law is getting anxious."
Hearing Little Red Carp’s words, Zhao Nuanyue suddenly remembered that they were in the middle of a meal, and her younger brother and sister were listening to them talk. She immediately felt embarrassed, her face turning bright red.
"You two little rascals, hurry up and eat!" Zhao Nuanyue said, annoyed. She could have waited until they got home to talk to Hua Yusen about this, but she just couldn’t help herself.
Perhaps it was because Wu Qiaoqiao was Hua Yusen’s wife in his past life. That fact alone made Zhao Nuanyue intensely jealous. Even though Wu Qiaoqiao and Hua Yusen had no significant relationship now, just the way Wu Qiaoqiao looked at him was enough to make her heart ache.
