Chapter 180: Welcome to the Team
Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Welcome to the Team
"Don’t take it off. It is me. It will protect you," Zhao Nuanyue said softly, her breath a fragrant whisper right in front of Hua Yusen.
Hua Yusen gazed at Zhao Nuanyue with his bright eyes, fighting the urge to pull her into an embrace. Instead, he leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, murmuring, "Alright. I’ll wear it, and it will be like you’re always by my side."
Zhao Nuanyue’s heart filled with anticipation, but she held back, restraining the impulse.
Just before she could get lost in his gaze, she took two steps back and simply looked at him.
And Hua Yusen simply looked back at her.
They both smiled. In that moment, they were happy. At the very least, they could still see each other smile.
After a long moment, Hua Yusen remembered he had to go check on the backyard.
"I’ll head to the back first. You go get Little Red Carp and Nuanyang settled, then come over in a bit." Hua Yusen smiled, then glanced past Zhao Nuanyue to see Little Red Carp and Zhao Nuan Yang peeking out from the side of the door.
Zhao Nuanyue turned and saw the comical scene.
"Heh, alright!" Zhao Nuanyue turned. "You go on ahead."
Hua Yusen chuckled, then turned and headed to the backyard.
Zhao Nuanyue crouched down, picked up Little Red Carp, and kissed her chubby little cheeks. "What are you two peeking at? Shouldn’t you be washing up and getting ready for bed?"
Zhao Nuan Yang’s face was flushed from the alcohol.
"Sis, I just want to say... you’re the best." After saying this, Zhao Nuan Yang swayed as he walked inside, heading to his room to sleep.
Hearing her brother’s words warmed Zhao Nuanyue’s heart.
’Everything she had done was paying off. It was all worth it.’ Her efforts hadn’t just brought about her brother’s gradual recovery; they had also given her a younger sister, a peaceful life, and a bright future, all of which were now unfolding before her.
"Nuanyang, you’re wonderful too," Zhao Nuanyue said, her voice bright.
"Sister, I’m good too," Little Red Carp piped up in her sweet, childish voice. "I’m the best!"
Zhao Nuanyue kissed Little Red Carp again. "You’re the best, the absolute greatest!"
Zhao Nuanyue gave Little Red Carp a bath and tucked her into bed. "You go on to sleep now. I have something to take care of in the back."
"Mm, okay. Come back soon." Little Red Carp closed her eyes. "I’m getting sleepy... time for bed."
Today, it wasn’t just Zhao Nuanyue who was keeping an eye on Wang Yuan; Little Red Carp had also been monitoring her. She had used a lot of her Divine Sense Spiritual Power and was truly exhausted.
Zhao Nuanyue pulled the blanket over Little Red Carp, then went to check on Zhao Nuan Yang, pulling a blanket over his stomach as well.
Once she saw that both of them were asleep, Zhao Nuanyue quietly left the room, closing the door behind her.
When Zhao Nuanyue arrived, Hua Yusen was talking with Gu Qingyu. The others had already gone to bed.
"Elder Gu, I swear on my life that I absolutely poured out the real poison that day," Zhao Nuanyue declared the moment she entered. ’I can’t let him doubt me. If he does, everything I’ve done will have been for nothing.’
Seeing Zhao Nuanyue’s solemn expression, Gu Qingyu smiled kindly. "Xiao Zhao, I believe you. I believe you because Xiaohua trusts you, so there’s no need to explain. When I was in peril, the Hua family never abandoned me. Xiaohua, in particular, stayed by our side, constantly protecting me. He was even gravely injured for my sake and nearly lost his life. I know all of this, and I’ve never forgotten it."
Hua Yusen was deeply moved to hear this.
"Thank you, Elder Gu," Zhao Nuanyue said. ’To earn someone’s trust is a blessing in itself.’ She understood why Hua Yusen was so moved.
Hua Yusen asked, "Elder Gu, what’s our plan going forward? Nuanyue and I both heard this drug is supposed to make a person gradually weaker. We can fake a poor complexion, but we can’t fake a pulse!"
"Heh, don’t worry," Elder Gu replied, having clearly thought it through. "I’ve already spoken with Sun Haoran. He can prescribe medication to make my pulse seem complex, as if I’m suffering from some rare and complicated illness. Combined with the effects of the Dragon Beard Grass and Dragon Tail Grass, it should be more than enough to fool them."
Gu Qingyu didn’t trust any other doctors; he only trusted Sun Haoran, who had suffered the same fate as him.
Hua Yusen was alarmed and immediately voiced his opposition. "Elder Gu, I’ve investigated Sun Haoran before. While there’s nothing wrong with his background, can we trust his medicine? Won’t it have a negative effect on your health?"
"He’s right, Elder Gu. Your health is what’s most important," Zhao Nuanyue added. "It’s not worth sacrificing your health for a chance to return to Jincheng City. We can always wait for another opportunity, but you only get one body."
Elder Gu looked at the worried faces of Hua Yusen and Zhao Nuanyue and gave a faint smile. "Heh, I trust you both, and I also trust Sun Haoran’s medical expertise. He assured me it won’t have any negative effects on my body. As anxious as I am, I’m not foolish enough to gamble with my own health."
’If you lose your life, you lose everything.’
Having experienced so much, Elder Gu understood the importance of being alive and would never joke about his own life.
Just then, Sun Haoran came over and assured them, "Xiaohua, Xiao Zhao, having fallen to this point, I am pinning all my hopes on Elder Gu. I wouldn’t gamble with my own future; I know what I’m doing. Not only will this not harm Elder Gu’s body, but once he stops the medication, he’ll actually be in better health than he is now."
"Uncle Sun, you know that Elder Gu is our hope—everyone’s hope. The restoration of a normal society rests on his shoulders. Only he has the power to bring order out of chaos," Hua Yusen said, looking at Sun Haoran with grave intensity. "So, you must think carefully about whether you want to be remembered as a hero or a villain of history."
"I have," Sun Haoran nodded. "I’ve thought it through completely. Elder Gu’s philosophy is precisely what I have always aspired to. Therefore, I am willing to follow him."
Hua Yusen smiled. "Then congratulations, and welcome to the team."
"Thank you for having me." Sun Haoran smiled as well. ’You can never accomplish anything significant on your own; you need an organization to make a real impact.’ He wanted to advance National Medicine and develop it into a modern medical field, and to do that, he needed the support of the upper echelons and the great families.
This was also why Sun Haoran was willing to join Elder Gu’s cause.
Seeing this, Zhao Nuanyue felt even more confident. Their team was growing, with more and more like-minded people joining their cause. ’As long as we seize this opportunity,’ she thought, ’we can definitely achieve something incredible.’
"Uncle Sun, so what’s your plan?" Zhao Nuanyue asked. "What do you need us to do?"
