Chapter 149 - 130: 460 Is Two 230s, Part 2
Chapter 149: Chapter 130: 460 Is Two 230s, Part 2
The song ended on the line, "for the one she loves."
When Gao Yuan finished the song, the only sound in the venue was the sound of stifled sobs.
Backstage, Jay Chou started to worry again.
It wasn’t that he was worried about losing control of the show, but rather that if Gao Yuan’s next song didn’t pick the tempo back up, they might have a repeat of the Hang City concert on their hands.
This song was even more devastating than "Hollow Heart" had been.
The last song had mainly struck a chord with the men. This time, he’d gone after the women’s hearts. ’That damn bastard!’
"Did you all have a good cry?"
In an instant, Gao Yuan’s entire demeanor shifted to that of a charming rogue. A mischievous smirk played on his lips as he called out to the crowd.
The crowd went wild.
"Scumbag! Scumbag! Scumbag!"
All the women in the audience, including Xiao Xiao, were shouting it at him.
Gao Yuan’s gaze, however, was fixed on one person: the girl who had gotten out of the RV. She was still staring right at him, her face stained with tears. But when their eyes met, she broke into a wide, happy smile.
Gao Yuan stared at her, the feeling of familiarity growing stronger by the second.
’He must have seen her before, and more than once!’
But for the life of him, Gao Yuan couldn’t remember where.
He didn’t have time to dwell on it, though, because the crowd’s chants of "scumbag" were starting to sound genuinely angry.
Even Jay Chou was tempted to go onstage and intervene. This was a concert with tens of thousands of people; if things got out of hand, who could possibly stop it?
Gao Yuan instantly switched gears again, his demeanor becoming gentle and refined. He called out to the audience, "Do you want to hear another one?"
"Yes!"
Hearing his gentle, magnetic voice and seeing the image of a perfect gentleman on the big screens, the fickle crowd of women was once again won over by Gao Yuan.
Meanwhile,
the girl he’d noticed put her mask back on. She had gone the entire song without it, much to the panic of the two security guards behind her.
「Outside Shanghai Stadium.」
Just as Gao Yuan’s song was ending, an ambulance pulled up and stopped at the entrance to the VIP lane.
None of the staff outside dared to stop it, and the vehicle immediately became a conspicuous sight outside Shanghai Stadium.
Gao Yuan, oblivious to all of this, gave the band another OK sign.
The melody for his third song of the night began to play.
When everyone heard the melody, they were stunned.
’Are we really at a concert?’
Of the three opening songs, only the first one was by Jay Chou. ’What the hell did the other two have to do with him?!’
Besides, the first two songs were for adults, but this last one was a children’s song.
’This is just ridiculous!’
Backstage, Jay Chou watched the audience’s bewildered expressions on his phone’s monitor feed and couldn’t help but feel a sense of resignation.
When Gao Yuan had proposed this song, Jay Chou had tried to get him to pick another one. But Gao Yuan insisted that only this song could pull the fans’ emotions back from the brink.
So, he had relented.
"Plant a seed in your heart, da-la-di-da-la."
"It has wondrous magic to grant a small wish."
"I hear every child wants to get one."
"Are you ready? Oh-yo, let’s explore together!"
...
As soon as he started singing, everyone, though still a bit confused, found that hearing this song from a grown man like Gao Yuan had an unexpectedly doting quality to it.
As the song went on, they found that the sadness in their hearts was unconsciously being erased, replaced by a gradually spreading warmth.
This feeling of being cherished was wonderful!
By the end, everyone was involuntarily humming along with Gao Yuan.
The tears were gone.
Smiles appeared.
And after all the crying, their humming even sounded a little cute.
Finally, the song was over.
Jay Chou let out a long sigh of relief and rode the stage lift up to the stage.
"Are you all happy now?"
"Happy!"
Hearing the entire stadium shout "Happy!" in unison, Jay Chou discreetly gave Gao Yuan a thumbs-up.
Gao Yuan then took the chance to speak again. He hadn’t forgotten his true purpose for being here.
"Do you know my name?"
"Yes!"
"Gao Yuan! Gao Yuan! Gao Yuan!"
Hearing their response, Gao Yuan held up a finger and wagged it playfully. "That’s not quite right!"
When everyone fell silent, Gao Yuan pointed to the GY brand logo that had appeared on the big screen. "The GY brand is named after me."
"From now on, you should call me GY!"
After giving them that hint, Gao Yuan asked again, "Now do you know my name?"
"GY! GY! GY!"
Now Gao Yuan was satisfied.
Jay Chou watched this exchange. ’Gao Yuan had all but announced that he was the founder of the GY brand and that everyone should hurry up and buy his products!’
At this thought, Jay Chou paused for a moment before deciding to do him an easy favor.
"I’ve used Gao Yuan’s face masks, by the way. They’re pretty good!"
This was an unexpected surprise for Gao Yuan.
This was a concert with an audience of tens of thousands, most of whom were women.
To put it bluntly, that one sentence from Jay Chou was worth at least two million.
’What a score!’
The two of them interacted with the audience for a little while longer before Gao Yuan left the stage.
This time, as he departed, no one shouted for him to stay.
The fans had been put through the wringer once by him; they really didn’t want to go through it again.
After a quick word with the stage director backstage, Gao Yuan headed for the exit.
Outside Shanghai Stadium, he noticed an ambulance parked nearby, which he found a little strange. Still, he only gave it a passing glance before getting in his car and driving away.
