The discomfort and pain were almost unbearable.
But unlike Bi Yun and the others, who could find excuses to avoid such hardships, she had no such luxury. She needed to embrace all of it with a cheerful disposition, as it was the only way to endear herself to the Qingdi people and ensure a more comfortable future.
No matter how excruciating it became, she had to grit her teeth and persevere.
As the emissary’s wife, Qiao Xuan held a special place of importance, with Prince Nuo Nuo’s high regard and the King’s benevolence. Hence, her treatment under Madame Shao was undoubtedly favorable.
When she claimed to be fatigued and requested a break, both Qingdi and the servants, as well as the guards, had to comply. Even though everyone shared a laugh about how delicate the emissary’s wife appeared, necessitating rest for a journey so brief, it seemed she fared worse than a Qingdi three-year-old child!
Thankfully, the Princess of Qin did not exhibit such tendencies…
Throughout the journey, they alternated between walking and pausing, traversing a seemingly boundless emerald grassland that stretched as far as the eye could see. Occasionally, they passed vibrant expanses of wildflowers that bloomed extravagantly. Occasionally, eagles soared through the expansive blue sky, and now and then, they observed foxes, marmots, wild cats, grassland rats, wild rabbits, and other creatures darting amidst the grass. Low-flying birds added to the picturesque spectacle, creating a delightful tapestry of life on the lively grassland.
Qiao Xuan couldn’t help but feel that rushing through such breathtaking landscapes was a missed opportunity; they should have taken the time to savor the scenery.
Her only regret was the absence of her husband by her side, though she looked forward to their extended time together on the return journey.
During their travels, they encountered a stunning lake. The azure waters of the lake were so captivating that it left them in awe. The lake’s reeds swayed gracefully, and the melodic calls of waterbirds filled the air. The scene was perfectly picturesque, resembling a painting come to life.
Qiao Xuan and her companions, who had never witnessed such natural beauty, were left utterly mesmerized.
The sun had climbed high in the sky, and noon was fast approaching. Qiao Xuan and Princess Shuangfu decided that it would be a good idea to break for lunch and then continue their journey.
Naturally, Princess Shuangfu readily agreed with a warm smile.
As Qiao Xuan gave the lunch order, the Qingdi group exchanged bewildered glances.
What kind of delicate constitution was this? She seemed so pampered! She had rested four times already along the way, and now she was stopping for lunch before reaching their destination.
Though they couldn’t voice their concerns, they reluctantly concurred.
However, Qiao Xuan paid no heed to their reactions. She and Princess Shuangfu were savoring the lakeside scenery, indulging in conversation and laughter.
The lake teemed with fish that seemed unafraid of humans. They swam in large, unhurried groups, tempting anyone to take a dip and catch them.
Given that Qingdi didn’t consume fish, Qiao Xuan was content to watch from the bank.
Her entourage swiftly got to work, digging holes, starting fires, and heating water with practiced efficiency. Some of the guards ventured out for a hunt, returning shortly with a few rabbits, marmots, and other small game, as well as some wild onions and leeks.
Before long, the aroma of roasted meat filled the air.
It was undeniable that they were skilled in these tasks, and the roasted meat was especially succulent and fragrant.
Qiao Xuan, utilizing her wood-element abilities, identified an abundance of herbs in the vicinity, including ephedrine, windproof, sand ginseng, and licorice. It left her feeling intrigued.
After enjoying the roasted meat, she expressed her desire to take a horse ride and explore the area. Without taking anyone with her, she cheerfully set off.
Having left the capital, it was a rare opportunity to venture alone, as she was typically part of the main group.
