Chapter 204: More Mature and Steady
That Huang Bo Lin was incredibly arrogant, openly provoking Lin Jingjing.
In the video he sent, a man in a white lab coat wore a mask and glasses, his hands covered with sterile gloves.
In the dim laboratory, a young man was tied to an operating table.
The young man was still wearing the combat uniform of the First Corps. The operating table was filthy, covered in dried bloodstains.
One could only imagine how many people had died on this table.
The man in the video held a syringe filled with an unknown liquid.
The young man tied to the table struggled, shouting nonstop.
“Let me go, do you hear me!”
“What you’re doing is illegal!”
“Human experimentation is illegal! You will be punished for this.”
“If you turn yourselves in now, you might still get a lighter sentence.”
The soldier babbled on, but the man acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, walking toward him with the needle.
While the soldier was still talking, the needle plunged directly into his shoulder.
With a single push, the unknown liquid was injected into the soldier’s body.
The soldier was still cursing, but gradually, his body began to change.
He began transforming into a mutant beast. At first, he continued to curse and swear, enduring the pain.
After all of the man’s sanity had completely disappeared, Dr. S stood to the side, raised his hand, and looked at the time on his Star Ring.
After a look, he remarked, “He only kept his sanity for five minutes before it was devoured. Not even as good as the last girl.”
“Utterly useless.”
Having said his piece, he lifted his head and stared into the camera, as if meeting Lin Jingjing’s gaze through the screen.
“Captain Lin, I have many more people I’ve captured here. If you don’t care about their lives…”
Dr. S let out a cold laugh. “I’ll turn them all into monsters and send them to attack you.”
“And rest assured, I will.”
After Dr. S finished, he turned the camera over to Huang Bo Lin.
Huang Bo Lin still maintained his facade perfectly, even though insiders knew he was the mastermind behind these disasters.
Yet, many still refused to believe it, because this group consisted entirely of people who had benefited from Huang Bo Lin’s grace.
Most of them were orphans who had only managed to finish university thanks to Huang Bo Lin’s financial support.
This was the greatest contradiction about Huang Bo Lin. He would donate a huge sum of Star Coins to charity each year, yet he would also kill countless people.
“Captain Lin, I await your arrival.” Huang Bo Lin’s gaze met Lin Jingjing’s through the screen as he issued his challenge. “If you don’t come, I will declare war on the entire Empire.”
“I will bring the entire Empire to its knees.”
After these words were spoken, the blue screen went dark.
Lin Jingjing sneered, “Shaoyu, send out the order. We leave for Blue Star in three days.”
“Huang Bo Lin must be captured.”
Lu Shaoyu nodded. “Yes!”
After acknowledging the order, Lu Shaoyu exited the office, leaving Lin Jingjing alone in the vast room.
She glanced at the calendar. ‘Time really flies.’
Before she knew it, over half a year had passed since their arrival on the Capital Star. Every single one of them had been incredibly busy during that time.
‘I thought things would be easier after coming to the Capital Star, but it’s even more exhausting than my time in logistics with the First Corps.’
She had just resolved the situation on that other planet, only for him to immediately turn around and create an even bigger mess for her.
‘So tiring…’
‘So incredibly tiring.’
The more she thought about it, the angrier Lin Jingjing became. ‘Why does Yun Yiyou get to be so idle?’
‘Just because he’s the King?’
“Sigh… Another huge battle is coming.”
Lin Jingjing raised her hands in frustration and frantically rubbed her face. The worry on her face was impossible to hide.
“Arrrgh…” Lin Jingjing didn’t even have the energy to complain. She had been using too much of her spiritual power lately, and her body felt weak.
Lin Jingjing cleared her mind and leaned back in her chair. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been resting when a knock sounded at the door.
Hearing the sound, Lin Jingjing sat up straight and then called out, “Come in.”
The door opened, and a large group of people entered.
The visitors were none other than the Army Commanders of the major corps. Feng He and his group followed in behind them.
Lin Jingjing stood up and looked at them, asking in confusion, “When did you all get here?”
“We came right after you left,” Xie Yun answered.
Lin Jingjing’s eyes swept over them, and she asked, puzzled, “Is there a reason you’re all here?”
“There’s a big battle in a few days.” Beisang spoke up. “As Army Commanders, we can’t just stand by and watch silently while you go into battle.”
“Our mission is to protect everyone’s safety. We can’t just leave the full weight of this task on your shoulders.”
Hearing Beisang’s words, Lin Jingjing was visibly touched.
She had really been run ragged by Huang Bo Lin recently, and the final battle was in just a few days.
Lin Jingjing wasn’t sure if she could defeat him.
Since everyone had come to help, Lin Jingjing smiled and said, “Alright, then let’s take down Huang Bo Lin together!”
The six of them nodded at Lin Jingjing. Beisang’s eyes lingered on the young woman standing before them. Lin Jingjing was dressed in a black combat uniform, and her hair, once cut to the base of her ears, now reached her shoulders.
To keep her hair from getting in the way, she had tied it up with a hair tie.
Her hair was tied back, leaving two strands to frame her face, revealing her forehead and giving her a clean, sharp look.
Her fair face was marked by two very noticeable dark circles. There was also a cut on her cheek; though it had already scabbed over, the mark was still clearly visible.
‘She’s become more mature and composed.’
‘These kids used to laugh, joke, and roughhouse all the time.’
‘They used to run all over the corps just to earn a few extra Star Coins. But now, in this position, with everyone’s hopes resting on their shoulders… they’ve visibly grown more composed and steadfast.’
‘It’s obvious how hard they’ve worked in the half-year since coming to the Capital Star.’
The Army Commanders had come to the Monster Investigation Bureau, so Lin Jingjing, as its director, gave them a full tour.
She introduced each location to them: the dormitories, the prison, the cafeteria, the laboratory, the Mecha Manufacturing Room, and the vegetable garden out back.
After the tour, all six of them nodded. The place was set up quite well.
Moreover, they discovered the absence of the typical “might-makes-right” philosophy.
Regardless of their spiritual power, they all got along peacefully.
Some with strong spiritual power would even encourage those with weaker spiritual power to work harder.
The atmosphere here felt exceptionally positive.
When they reached the cafeteria, many people were inside, wolfing down their food. Upon seeing the newcomers, they would call out a casual greeting before immediately returning their focus to their meals.
It was very casual, almost too casual.
