Chapter 602: Regret

Chapter 602: Chapter 602: Regret

"Drunk?" The curly-haired man shook his head vigorously at her words. A drunkard would never admit he’s had too much. "How could I be? I can hold my liquor just fine. See? I can still see your face clearly, hahaha! You’re gorgeous!"

As the curly-haired man spoke, his eyes lit up and he reached out to lift Su Qing’s chin. "A beautiful night like this... it’s the perfect time for a little romance, HIC~ Oww—"

The curly-haired man’s hand never touched Su Qing’s chin. Instead, she slapped it away. Caught off balance, his legs gave out and he tumbled to the ground.

The fall seemed to knock some fight into him. He scrambled to his feet, cursing, and pointed at Su Qing. "HIC~ You damn woman! Walking alone in an empty alley this late at night, aren’t you just asking to be hit on? I was just giving you what you wanted, and you dare to hit me? If I don’t teach you a lesson, you won’t know who you’re dealing with!"

With that, the curly-haired man lunged forward to hit Su Qing.

Su Qing sneered and slapped the man hard across the face. His cheek instantly and visibly swelled up. But before he could even cry out in pain, he felt something gag his mouth. His eyes shot open in terror, the alcohol’s effect rapidly fading. He thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. ’Did something just fly out of thin air and stuff itself into my mouth?’

’Could it be that this woman is an Onmyoji?’

In Japan, only Onmyoji possessed such terrifying and unbelievable powers.

"MMPH! MMPH!" The man was now completely sober. Forgetting about the gag in his mouth, he scrambled to get away, but then he felt something entangle his arms and legs, pinning him in place. Terror filled his eyes. Unable to speak, all he could do was whimper and plead with Su Qing for mercy.

The curly-haired man was regretting it more than anything. ’Why did I drink so much tonight? Why did I take this way home? The other road is so much busier. If I had just taken that one, would I have avoided this woman? Would I have escaped this disaster?’

Su Qing watched the begging man, her eyes filled with an icy chill. With a tug of the vines in her hand, she began dragging the immobilized man toward an abandoned construction site beside the alley. The area was sparsely populated, and most residents were already asleep. Even if someone heard a noise and glanced out their window, they wouldn’t have seen anything and would have dismissed it.

As the curly-haired man saw himself being dragged into the abandoned construction site, a wave of dread washed over him. He knew this place. It was originally slated for a residential complex, but then a murder occurred here. A girl, not yet twenty, was walking home at night when she was dragged into the site, assaulted, and killed. Although the murderer was eventually caught, the site became known as a crime scene. Some even claimed to hear a woman’s cries echoing in the area at night. Even after the site manager hired an Onmyoji to perform a ritual, it was no use. In the end, construction was halted, and with no one willing to take over the project, it was left abandoned.

Because of this, many of the nearby residents had moved away, leaving the area desolate. He, however, had never believed in such superstitions. He often took this route after drinking with friends because it was a shortcut home. In fact, he had even assaulted several girls near here himself. Since his brother-in-law worked for the Qiutian Clan, his brother-in-law had always managed to cover up his crimes, preventing any major trouble.

It was just that two or three of the girls had later committed suicide, unable to bear the humiliation. However, he had always believed those women were just too weak. To kill themselves over something so trivial... they deserved to die.

But today, with the roles reversed, the curly-haired man was panicking. He looked at the desolate construction site around him and began shaking like a leaf.

"Help! Help me!" Realizing the gag was gone, the man immediately screamed for help.

But the area was too desolate. There was no one to hear his cries for help. The thought of how the girls he’d dragged here had also screamed for help, their cries also going unanswered, made his face turn even paler. ree

The curly-haired man looked at Su Qing, trembling. "I... I was wrong. I shouldn’t... shouldn’t have harassed you. Please, just let me go."

"Let you go?" Su Qing raised an eyebrow. "You’re the one who started this."

"I was wrong, I was wrong! I’m an asshole, a bastard! I’m begging you, please, just treat me like I’m nothing and let me go," the man wailed, begging Su Qing for mercy.

"Hmph. You seemed very practiced," Su Qing sneered. "Confess. Tell me everything you’ve done in the past, one by one. If you tell a single lie, I’ll take your life."

"I know I was wrong! I never should have had such evil thoughts." The man’s eyes were red from crying. He couldn’t think about anything but saving his own skin, so he immediately confessed everything he had done, down to the last detail.

Su Qing’s eyes narrowed as she listened. She had only been bluffing, but it turned out he really was a scumbag with a long criminal record. ’Then again,’ she thought, ’it makes sense. Based on his character and what he said back at the restaurant, it was obvious this guy was no good.’

"I-I’ve told you everything. Can you let me go now?" The man had confessed practically everything but his family’s history. His teeth chattered as he looked at Su Qing, praying she would show some mercy and let him leave.

"Let you go?" Su Qing gave a faint smile. The complete lack of warmth in it sent a chill down the man’s spine. His voice trembled. "I told you everything. Why won’t you let me go?"

"Did you let those girls go?" Su Qing asked calmly. ’He ruined their lives, even caused their deaths, yet got away scot-free thanks to his connections, without a shred of guilt. How could a vile animal like this have the audacity to ask for mercy?’

"You..." The man stumbled backward in fear, trying to run. Then, he saw a few drops of a gray liquid fly toward his face. Before he could react, the liquid entered his body.

"What did you do?" The man’s fear deepened, and he was so overwhelmed with regret that he felt like he was about to break. But soon, he lost the energy to even think about it. His mind grew foggy, and he slowly fell silent, his eyes staring blankly ahead.

Su Qing knew the gray liquid had taken effect. She asked in a low voice, "Your brother-in-law works for the Qiutian Clan?"
