Chapter 523: The One Who Harmed Me Is Susan
Chapter 523: Chapter 523: The One Who Harmed Me Is Susan
"It was three crew members," Jim replied. "That night, Miss Angela was on deck by herself, and those three crew members saw her. They saw how beautiful she was and got some wicked ideas. Afterward, they hid Miss Angela in a storage room on a lower level."
"And then what?" Su Qing asked. "During the search of the ship earlier, how come Miss Angela wasn’t found in that storage room?"
"Don’t even ask," Jim said. "During the search, those three crew members pretended to help. They used the opportunity to gloss over that storage room, so everyone thought it had already been checked. As a result, Miss Angela was right under our noses, and we just couldn’t find her."
Jim continued, explaining how they found Angela. "In the middle of the night yesterday, the three of them saw that Miss Angela wasn’t moving and thought she was dead. Fearing she would be discovered, they decided to throw her body into the sea to get rid of the evidence. But as luck would have it, they were caught red-handed by Mr. Hua and his people. With both witnesses and physical evidence, the three were tied up immediately. Now they’re just waiting to be dealt with once the ship docks."
Su Qing nodded. "It seems this Mr. Hua is really quite capable."
Jim laughed. "Mr. Hua’s fame in Xiangcheng is well-deserved. He’s brilliant at solving cases. No matter how difficult, he solves nine out of ten cases that come his way."
Jim clearly admired Hua Zifeng, thinking he was incredibly amazing.
Meanwhile, Hua Zifeng, the man Jim considered so incredibly capable, was completely stumped.
Hua Zifeng looked at his assistant beside him and said, "What do you think? That sound that led us here last night... where did it come from?"
It wasn’t just him and his assistant; Yarn and his group were also drawn out by that sound. That’s how they were ultimately able to catch the three crew members on deck as they were preparing to throw Angela into the sea.
If that sound hadn’t led them there, Angela would have truly been lost to the sea.
But where on earth did that sound come from?
"I... I’m not sure either." The assistant was just as baffled. "Last night, every time we heard the sound, it seemed to be just ahead of us. But when we chased after it, there wasn’t a single soul in sight. It was incredibly eerie. At that moment, my mind was filled with all sorts of ghost ship stories. If you hadn’t been there, Mr. Hua, my legs probably would have gone so weak I couldn’t even stand."
’Good heavens,’ he thought, ’the middle of the night, a vast, dark ocean, an isolated ship stopped on the water, dead silence all around with not a soul in sight, and a strange, elusive sound... It was like we had checked all the boxes for a ghost ship.’
"Who exactly was trying to alert us?" Hua Zifeng frowned. "It’s obvious that whoever made that noise wanted to lead us to rescue Miss Angela. But who could it be?"
Hua Zifeng hadn’t expected someone so capable to be on this ship. But why wouldn’t this person show themselves, choosing instead to guide them from the shadows?
And what connection does this person have to Miss Angela’s case?
One question after another circled in Hua Zifeng’s mind, but he still couldn’t figure out just how this person had done it.
The assistant stood by without a word. If Hua Zifeng couldn’t figure it out, there was no way he, a mere assistant, could.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. The assistant hurried to open it. Outside was the steward for Angela’s room. He said to Hua Zifeng, "Mr. Hua, Miss Angela is awake."
"Excellent." Hua Zifeng stood up at once, intending to go see Angela. Although the three crew members had already confessed, he still wanted to question Angela, thinking he might find some other clues from her.
The sound that had led them to rescue Angela continued to trouble Hua Zifeng. Until he solved that mystery, he felt the case wasn’t truly closed.
"Ah, don’t touch me! Don’t touch me! Go away, go away!"
As Hua Zifeng and his assistant arrived outside Angela’s room, they heard her screaming from inside. People from several of the surrounding rooms had opened their doors to listen, whispering cautiously among themselves.
Hua Zifeng frowned slightly and entered Angela’s room.
Inside, Angela was frantically shrinking into a corner of the bed, refusing to let anyone touch her. She was curled into a ball, completely terrified.
Yarn said anxiously, "Angela, it’s okay. You’re okay now. Look, I’m here with you. It’s all over."
"No, no, don’t touch me! Get your hand away!" Angela still seemed dazed. She slapped away Yarn’s outstretched hand and watched everyone warily, her eyes filled with terror and unease.
"How is Miss Angela?" Seeing her state, Hua Zifeng sighed inwardly and quietly asked the doctor standing nearby.
The doctor sighed. "Miss Angela has suffered a shock. She’s likely still a bit disoriented. For now, we’ll have to see if Mr. Yan can calm her down."
Hua Zifeng nodded. He knew this wasn’t a good time for questions, so he could only stand aside and wait. He didn’t know Angela well and certainly couldn’t approach her now, lest he frighten her even more.
Fortunately, under Yarn’s comforting presence, Angela finally came to her senses completely. She looked at Yarn and, sobbing, threw herself into his arms. "Yarn, what am I going to do? What am I going to do? Those men deserve to die! They all deserve to die!"
Angela cried uncontrollably.
"It’s all over, Angela." Yarn held her and soothed her endlessly. "You’re safe now. Don’t worry, nothing else will happen."
"Mm." There was still terror in Angela’s eyes, and her body was trembling slightly. The moment she thought of what she had endured that night, she couldn’t help but shiver. Heaven knows how desperate she had been that night.
’Why!’
’Why did something like this have to happen to me!’
Angela was filled with indignation. She was the precious daughter of the Walker family, so why would something like this happen to her?
’It shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be like this!’
Then, Angela remembered why she had gone to the deck that day.
’That’s right. It was because I had an argument with Yarn. I was upset and wanted to go to the deck for some fresh air. And the root of that argument...!’
’It was that woman named Susan!’
’Yes, it was that woman, Susan!’
’If it weren’t for that Susan, I never would have argued with Yarn. If I hadn’t argued with Yarn, I wouldn’t have wanted to go to the deck for some air. And if that hadn’t happened, I never would have run into those three crew members, and none of this would have happened.’
’Therefore, the one to blame for all of this... is Susan.’
’Susan is the one who ruined me!’
At that moment, Angela was filled with hatred for Susan. She looked up at Yarn. "Yarn, the one who ruined me... is Susan!"
