Chapter 517: Venting Anger

Chapter 517: Chapter 517: Venting Anger

Angela’s words made Yarn’s brow furrow. He knew she was right. His family and hers had intermarried for generations, starting from their great-grandfathers, and they were frequent partners in business. The two families were inextricably linked. Whether for the sake of their long-standing friendship or their business alliance, marriage between them was a foregone conclusion.

He was the youngest son. While his marriage to Angela still had some room for negotiation—if he was adamant in his opposition, the family elders wouldn’t force him to marry her—if he wanted to marry a Chinese woman, the elders would absolutely never allow it.

At that thought, Yarn froze. ’I’ve only met that Chinese girl once or twice. How did one sentence from Angela make me jump straight to thinking about marriage?’

Yarn’s brow furrowed. "Angela, you’re going too far," he said. "I’ve only met that girl once. We barely even know each other. Why can’t you let it go? If you keep this up, maybe we should stop seeing each other, just to keep you from getting any more wrong ideas."

Angela was livid. "What do you mean, ’wrong ideas’? Yarn, explain yourself. What ideas am I not supposed to have? Is it not a fact that we’re getting engaged soon?"

"We’re not engaged yet. Nothing is set in stone," Yarn said with a frown. "Angela, I have to make this clear to you one more time. I only have feelings for you as a brother. I’ve only ever seen you as a little sister, ever since we were kids."

Tears welled in Angela’s eyes as she looked at Yarn. "Yarn," she cried, "no matter what you say, I will not give up. I will be your wife. It can only be me."

"You..." Yarn was infuriated. Just as he was about to speak, Angela shot to her feet, turned, and ran off.

As she reached the restaurant entrance, she ran right into Luo Yixian and Mi Jiawei, who had just finished their meal and were leaving. The two were walking with their arms around each other, talking intimately, when Angela collided with them.

Angela was already fuming. Seeing a girl in her twenties acting so intimate with a middle-aged man of about fifty, she instantly concluded that Luo Yixian must be a mistress. With a hateful look, she swung her hand and slapped Luo Yixian across the face. "Shameless vixen! Don’t you watch where you’re going? Are you blind? Who do you think you’re bumping into?!"

Luo Yixian was stunned by the slap. Just as she was about to curse back in anger, she heard Mi Jiawei’s ingratiating voice. "Why, it’s Miss Angela! A pleasure, a pleasure. I’m Mi Jiawei, General Manager of the Mi Group. Our Mi Group has business dealings with your Walker Family."

After speaking, Mi Jiawei turned to Luo Yixian. "A Xian, hurry and greet Miss Angela. She is the apple of the Walker family’s eye, a person of immense prestige."

Luo Yixian gasped. She had heard of the Walker family; they were very famous in Xiangcheng. Although the family’s main branch was in John’s Country, their power in Xiangcheng was not to be underestimated. Furthermore, it was said the Walker family had some Imperial Family blood, making them figures of reverence to the people of Xiangcheng.

"Miss Angela." Luo Yixian knew she had to take that slap without complaint.

"Hmph. Shameless vixen," Angela said, looking at Luo Yixian with disdain. She added haughtily, "You hurt me."

"Hurry up and apologize to Miss Angela," Mi Jiawei said hurriedly, shooting Luo Yixian a glare.

The Mi Family’s business dealings with the Walker family were crucial. If this little incident jeopardized their partnership, Mi Jiawei would make Luo Yixian pay, even if she was a woman he fancied.

Seeing Mi Jiawei’s stern expression, Luo Yixian felt a surge of indignation. But she was in no position to argue and had to apologize. "I’m sorry, Miss Angela, for accidentally bumping into you. I hope you can be the bigger person and not hold it against me."

The words had barely left Luo Yixian’s mouth when she was slapped again, this time on the other cheek. Clutching her face, she stared at Angela in disbelief. ’I apologized so humbly, and she still hit me!’

Having slapped Luo Yixian twice, Angela’s foul mood—caused by Yarn and Su Qing—finally improved slightly. She tilted her chin up and looked down at Luo Yixian haughtily. "Seeing as your apology was sincere enough, I’ll let it go."

Luo Yixian was speechless.

Yarn, who was sitting not far away, watched the entire display and his brow tightened. He didn’t approve of Angela’s actions, but he had no intention of stepping in to smooth things over.

Angela had vented her anger on Luo Yixian and felt a little better, but the thought of Yarn’s attentiveness toward Su Qing made her chest tighten again. Fuming once more, she stormed off toward the fourth floor.

Su Qing returned to her room after her meal. She was sitting on a lounge chair on her scenic balcony, admiring the ocean view and contemplating her plan of action for when she met A Tai, when she suddenly heard a knock at the door.

Su Qing’s brow twitched. Thinking it was the room steward, she went and opened the door. To her surprise, the person standing there was the girl named Angela.

Seeing Su Qing open the door, Angela glared at her, fuming, but said nothing.

Su Qing asked calmly, "Can I help you with something?"

"I’m here to warn you," Angela said, tilting her chin up at Su Qing. "Yarn and I are about to be engaged. I hope you won’t try to meddle. The Hall family would never allow one of their own to marry a Chinese woman. You will never have a chance to marry into the Hall family."

Su Qing gave Angela a look one might reserve for a lunatic. "Are you insane? You and whatever-his-name-is—Yarn—have absolutely nothing to do with me. I just happen to be staying in the room next to his. Next time you go looking for a love rival, make sure you have the right person. Don’t just run around biting everyone like a rabid dog."

Angela’s eyes widened in fury. "Who are you calling a rabid dog?"

"If the shoe fits," Su Qing said coolly. "Don’t come here and act crazy in front of me again. Next time, I won’t be so polite."

"Do you have any idea who I am?" Angela sputtered.

Su Qing sneered. "I don’t care who you are. What’s it got to do with me? Now get lost. I don’t want to see your face."

With that, Su Qing started to close the door. She couldn’t be bothered to deal with a little girl whose entire world revolved around chasing a man.

When Angela saw Su Qing closing the door, she quickly tried to push it open. "Don’t close it! You explain yourself!"

By now, quite a few people had returned to the surrounding rooms after their dinner. Seeing Angela and Su Qing arguing in the doorway, they couldn’t help but stop to watch the drama unfold.

"Piss off." Su Qing slapped Angela’s hand away from the door and then, with a loud SLAM, shut it in her face.
