Chapter 389: Ask Him What Guilty Deed He’s Done
Chapter 389: Chapter 389: Ask Him What Guilty Deed He’s Done
Yuan Fang turned to look at the man who had just walked over and snapped, "Sun Weiming, where did you run off to? I couldn’t find you anywhere! Dad had a sudden attack and I couldn’t find you, you..."
Before Yuan Fang could finish, a flicker of guilt crossed Sun Weiming’s eyes, and he quickly cut her off. "Alright, now’s not the time for this."
With that, Sun Weiming turned to Su Qing. "Young lady, you’re going too far. Demanding ten yuan for a pill from who-knows-where... Setting aside the ridiculous price for a moment, you claim this one little pill can relieve his symptoms? If he has a bad reaction, will you take responsibility? Let me tell you, if this pill harms my father-in-law, you’ll have to pay."
Su Qing sneered at his words, putting the porcelain vial away. "You weren’t here when the old man’s attack started," she said in a cold voice. "Now that his condition is critical and he looks like he’s not going to make it, you run out here to block his only chance at survival. It seems to me you’re hoping something bad happens to him. Did your father-in-law find out something about you? I’d say you’re hoping he can’t be saved."
"You... You’re spouting nonsense!" Sun Weiming’s eyes went wide. "I’m telling you, don’t you dare slander me!"
The medical student said urgently, "This is no time for arguing! If we don’t do something, the old man really isn’t going to make it off this train."
He was right.
The old man’s breathing was still extremely rapid. The green mist Su Qing had given him earlier was only enough to keep him from suffocating, but his other symptoms remained.
Hearing the student’s words, Yuan Fang panicked. She quickly said to Su Qing, "Young lady, I’ll buy the pill. Don’t worry, whether it saves my dad or not, I won’t blame you."
’The medical student said so himself. If they didn’t do something, her dad wouldn’t make it off the train. She couldn’t just stand by and watch her father die. No matter what, she had to try. What if this pill actually worked?’
"Yuan Fang, you’d dare give Dad medicine from a total stranger?!" Sun Weiming blurted out anxiously when he heard her. ’He did have something to hide, and his father-in-law had found out. He wouldn’t dare do something as drastic as murder to silence him, but today presented a golden opportunity. He was hoping the old bastard would just hurry up and die.’
The surrounding crowd fell silent. No one dared to say a word. A life was on the line. Should they say the medicine was bad? What if it actually worked? Should they say it was good? They knew nothing about it; what if they misled the family?
"You shut up!" Yuan Fang shrieked at Sun Weiming. "This is my dad! Whatever happens, I’ll take full responsibility."
With that, Yuan Fang pulled out the ten yuan and handed it to Su Qing. "Young lady, I’m buying this pill."
"Alright." Su Qing nodded, handing the porcelain vial to Yuan Fang and taking the ten yuan from her.
Yuan Fang took the vial, poured out the pill, and was about to put it in the old man’s mouth when someone hurried over with a cup of warm water.
Before Yuan Fang could get the pill into the old man’s mouth, Sun Weiming lunged forward to try and knock it out of her hand. "Have you lost your mind? You can’t give Dad just any random medicine!"
Before Sun Weiming could touch Yuan Fang, he felt a sharp pain in his gut as Su Qing kicked him, sending him stumbling backward. Seizing the opportunity, Yuan Fang shoved the pill into the old man’s mouth.
The pill dissolved the moment it entered his mouth, though the crowd didn’t know it. Yuan Fang quickly gave the old man a couple sips of water, hoping to help him swallow it.
"Damn it, you bitch! You dare hit me!" Sun Weiming’s stomach throbbed with pain. Luckily, the aisle was narrow and someone caught him, so he didn’t end up sprawled on his back in utter humiliation. Still, he was mortified. He’d just been beaten by a woman in front of a whole crowd of people.
"You’re the one I meant to hit," Su Qing said, giving Sun Weiming an icy glare. Her cold eyes held a harshness born of the apocalypse, making Sun Weiming shudder. He couldn’t understand how he could see killing intent in the eyes of a girl who looked barely out of her teens.
’Yes, that was killing intent.’
’Sun Weiming was certain that if there weren’t so many people around, this young woman might have actually dared to kill him!’
The thought stuck in his mind, and for a moment, he didn’t dare say another word.
"Hey, his eyes! Are his eyes opening?" After just a short while, the color had visibly returned to the face of the old man on the floor. No one was paying any attention to Sun Weiming’s anger and embarrassment; all eyes were fixed on the old man, anxious to see if the pill had any effect. Suddenly, someone saw his eyelashes twitch and cried out.
"I think you’re right! They did, they moved!" The crowd immediately grew excited.
"Dad? Dad, can you hear me?" Seeing her father’s color improve, Yuan Fang was overcome with excitement and called out.
"Let me take a look." The medical student was also astonished. ’He never imagined a tiny pill could be so effective. This was far faster than Western medicine. A patient with such a severe cerebral hemorrhage wouldn’t wake up this quickly even if they made it to the hospital.’
"Yes, please, take a look," Yuan Fang said, her voice filled with excitement.
The medical student quickly checked the old man again, his surprise deepening. "From what I can tell, the old man’s condition has stabilized."
It was true. He had stabilized!
His color had improved, his breathing was no longer ragged, and he was even showing signs of waking up!
Everyone was overjoyed. They all turned to look at Su Qing, amazed that the pill had been so effective.
"Thank you, young lady, thank you," Yuan Fang said to Su Qing, her voice thick with emotion. "That pill must be very expensive. Ten yuan is definitely not enough. Please, let me give you more money."
Even if Yuan Fang didn’t understand medicine, she knew in her heart that a Chinese medicine pill that took effect so quickly must contain many precious herbs. Ten yuan a pill was an absolute bargain.
"No need. I said ten yuan, so it’s ten yuan," Su Qing said plainly. "Once you get to the hospital, have a doctor give the old man a thorough examination and treatment."
"Yes, of course. Thank you, thank you." Yuan Fang was incredibly grateful to Su Qing and nodded repeatedly.
Seeing that the old man was getting better, Su Qing decided to leave. Before she went, she looked at the dazed Sun Weiming and said to Yuan Fang, "This is your husband, isn’t he? You should probably ask him what he’s done to get such a guilty conscience."
"That’s bullshit! What could I have to feel guilty about?" Sun Weiming snarled.
Su Qing sneered. "Oh really? The woman’s perfume you’re wearing doesn’t belong to this lady."
Before Sun Weiming could say anything, Su Qing continued, "And don’t use the excuse that the train is crowded. This is a sleeper car, there aren’t that many people. Besides, the scent on you is too strong to have come from just brushing past someone."
With that, Su Qing turned and walked away, ignoring the astonished looks on both Yuan Fang’s and Sun Weiming’s faces.
The crowd behind her erupted into chaos.
