Chapter 342: A Stirred Heart
Chapter 342: Chapter 342: A Stirred Heart
"You!" Liu Jiajia was so angry she was about to shout, but Tang Yun stopped her. "That’s enough, Jiajia. You need to get along with your classmates."
Then, Tang Yun looked at Li Huan. "My apologies, young lady. Our Jiajia is guileless and has a very blunt personality, so her words can be a bit too direct. Please don’t take it to heart."
This just made Li Huan even angrier. ’What does that mean? Is she saying I’m the one who’s full of schemes? This Liu Jiajia’s mother is no good either.’
Just as Su Qing was about to speak, Li Wan, who was standing beside her, cut in. "Our Li Huan is the straightforward type who can’t stand it when people beat around the bush. If she says something you don’t like to hear, please don’t take it to heart either."
Tang Yun frowned and looked at Li Wan. She had never seen her before and didn’t know her relationship with Li Huan. But she figured that anyone this close to Li Huan must have deep ties to the Li family. ’She seemed to recall that the Li family had recently found their true biological daughter. Could it be this woman in front of her?’
And so, Tang Yun smiled. "They’re just kids. They don’t weigh their words. It’s just childish fun, no need to dwell on it. Are you all here to look at houses today, too?"
"That’s right, and we’ve already decided on this courtyard," Li Huan said quickly, feeling the need to emphasize that they had claimed it first and it couldn’t be snatched away.
"Decided?" Tang Yun raised an eyebrow. "Have you paid the deposit?"
"The owner is right here. We’re about to go transfer the title. We’re paying in full, so why would we need a deposit?" Li Huan huffed.
Tang Yun smiled. "So, you haven’t paid a deposit yet."
With that, she turned to Lu Changsheng. "Since they haven’t paid a deposit, then we’re not too late. This deal isn’t finalized yet, is it?"
Lu Changsheng frowned slightly. "I’ve already made a verbal agreement with them. I’ve decided to sell this house to them. So, I’m truly sorry to have made you come all this way for nothing."
Lu Changsheng had his own code of conduct, and the principles he was raised with wouldn’t allow him to go back on his word.
Tang Yun frowned at his words. Just as she was about to speak, Liu Jiajia blurted out, "Do you know who my dad is? My dad is—"
"Jiajia!" Tang Yun quickly silenced her. ’What kind of place is Beijing University? Even though she had pulled strings to get Liu Jiajia in, the vast majority of people here were self-righteously aloof. Besides, she knew about the Li family’s background. Her husband might be a vice minister in the Ministry of Finance, and they might live in the government compound, making it seem like they were on equal footing with the Li family, but in reality, Li Huan’s grandfather was a founding hero of the nation. Even though he was retired, his influence remained. What’s more, Li Fenghuo’s current position was nothing to scoff at.’
When it came to background, their Liu Family really couldn’t compete with the Li family. Unless the owner backed out today, there was nothing she could do.
Bully them with status? You’d need a higher status than the Li family to even try.
Lu Changsheng shot a look at Liu Jiajia, feeling a strong dislike for the girl. ’Too arrogant. Is she relying on her family’s status?’
But it didn’t matter what her family status was; he wasn’t afraid. His family was about to go abroad anyway. No matter how much influence they had, they couldn’t touch him.
"Mr. Lu, is there really no room for discussion?" Tang Yun was very fond of this courtyard. The location was perfect, and it was so beautiful. Although 30,000 yuan was a bit steep, it wasn’t an amount her family couldn’t afford. Now that the country was gradually opening up, her family had naturally gotten the news in advance. Her younger brother had already started a business, and she had invested some money in it. She had a decent amount of cash on hand now; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to come up with 30,000 yuan to buy a courtyard for her daughter.
Lu Changsheng shook his head, indicating that there was no room for discussion.
Tang Yun sighed with regret. She didn’t dare to openly fight with the Li family for this courtyard. If word got out, her Liu Family would be in the wrong, and it could even affect her husband’s job. By all accounts, the loss would far outweigh any gain.
Taking a quiet, steadying breath, Tang Yun smiled at Li Huan. "It seems we were a step too late. Congratulations on getting this courtyard."
"Thank you. We do like this courtyard very much," Li Wan replied coolly, equally unimpressed by the mother-daughter duo.
Tang Yun struggled to maintain her composure, nodded at Li Huan, and prepared to lead Liu Jiajia away.
"Mom!" Liu Jiajia cried, getting anxious. She loved this courtyard, loved it to bits. She wanted this one.
"Jiajia, there are other houses in the area. Let’s go look at some others." Tang Yun squeezed Liu Jiajia’s hand, her grip tightening. Liu Jiajia bit her lip, knowing her mother had truly given up on the courtyard. She reluctantly followed Tang Yun, shooting an angry glare at Li Huan before she left. Li Huan cheekily made a face back at her, which only made Liu Jiajia angrier.
"If there are no other issues, shall we go transfer the title now?" Lu Changsheng asked Li Wan after the Liu family mother and daughter had left. In his eyes, Li Wan was surely the one putting up the money.
"Of course."
The group left the Beijing University campus. The Li family had brought one car today, and Yan Dongjun had driven his, so there was plenty of room.
The property management office wasn’t crowded, and the transfer process was quick. The courtyard was registered under Su Qing’s name. Lu Changsheng was a little surprised to see that Su Qing was the one paying, but he didn’t say anything. He exchanged a few polite words and then took his leave.
Li Huan excitedly clung to Su Qing’s arm. "Qingqing, this is great! I love this courtyard so much! When are we going to clean it up? How about tomorrow? We have to report for school the day after tomorrow."
"Let’s have Grandma and Grandpa come see it tomorrow, and we can clean it up then," Su Qing told Li Huan. Then she turned to Yan Dongjun. "Thank you so much for today. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have been able to buy such a perfect courtyard."
With that, Su Qing took out five hundred yuan and handed it to Yan Dongjun. "A small token of our appreciation."
"Hey, we’re friends, it’s what I should do," Yan Dongjun said, trying to refuse. "You’re being too formal."
Su Qing smiled and placed the five hundred yuan in Yan Dongjun’s hand. "We’re friends, but business is business. You helped us so much and ran around with us for half the day. If you don’t take this, I won’t dare to ask for your help in the future."
Li Wan chimed in, "That’s right, you should take it. Go on, Xiao Yan, accept it."
Seeing that Su Qing was sincere, Yan Dongjun didn’t drag it out. "Alright, I’ll take it today then. If you need help with anything in the future, just let me know."
"Deal," Su Qing said with a smiling nod. She had planned to treat Yan Dongjun to a meal, but he had other things to do, so they had to skip it.
Before they parted ways, Li Wan smiled at Yan Dongjun. "Xiao Yan, thank you for your hard work today. Come visit us at home when you have time."
"Yes, of course, Auntie," Yan Dongjun replied with a quick, smiling nod. From the corner of his eye, he snuck a glance at Li Huan, and his heart gave an involuntary leap.
