Chapter 849 - 847: For the One Who Died 17
Chapter 849: Chapter 847: For the One Who Died 17
Right now, there was nothing left of Xu Zhao’s former calm and indifference.
Even when facing questioning at the station, he’d never shown the slightest panic. Now he was tied up with hemp rope and hanging off the edge of the rooftop, as if he could fall at any moment.
The instant he saw Zhao Kehan, it was like seeing a savior. His eyes even welled up with a few grateful tears as he stared at him, full of hope.
Zhao Kehan said nothing, quietly taking in everything in front of him without showing any emotion.
Weird—what he was seeing was far too weird.
There are all kinds of blinding techniques in this world, most commonly used in magic tricks. He could be sure that what was happening before him was absolutely not some blinding technique.
Above the rooftop there was only the sky, and there was nothing much around them either. They weren’t actually that far apart; no blinding technique could be executed this perfectly.
Besides, that rope seemed to move from time to time as if it were being held, like there really was someone gripping it.
Zhao Kehan took a deep breath and said, "What are you, human or ghost?"
As his words fell, a somewhat familiar figure appeared before everyone’s eyes. Who else could it be but Ah Chen?
She was wearing a dress, her hair hanging loose, her face bloodless, her figure hovering unsteadily in midair—she didn’t look like a living person from any angle.
Of course, anyone who had ever seen her wouldn’t think that figure floating in midair was human.
Sun Ling’s eyes went wide with shock, and she couldn’t help calling out, "Su Chen."
Everything that had happened today was very strange, but if not for this bizarre turn of events, she probably wouldn’t have had any good outcome at all—she’d almost been killed in retaliation by Xu Zhao.
She glanced at the wound on her hand, which was from Xu Zhao’s sudden counterattack. But at the critical moment, a hemp rope had appeared out of thin air and wrapped tightly around Xu Zhao’s neck.
The bodyguards had ended up the same way. At first they were outside dealing with An Shuo, then they were dragged up to the rooftop by ropes that appeared out of nowhere.
After that came the scene before them now, right up until Zhao Kehan arrived.
But what Sun Ling never expected was that the one behind all these eerie events would turn out to be Su Chen.
Su Chen was dead—long dead—and even her body had been cremated. Besides, she’d fallen from a building; her corpse had been smashed beyond recognition.
The face of the figure before them didn’t look like a human’s, yet her body seemed completely intact.
Su Chen must have become a ghost, right?
And a pretty powerful one.
Thinking of that possibility, Sun Ling suddenly burst out laughing, and the longer she laughed, the louder it got. In the end she said, "Good. That’s good."
"You’re Su Chen?" Zhao Kehan asked. What he was seeing obviously overturned his former understanding of the world. With Su Chen’s figure floating there in midair, he could no longer lie to himself and insist there were no ghosts in this world.
Ah Chen nodded. "Hello, Officer Zhao."
Zhao Kehan had been about to say something, then suddenly remembered Su Chen wasn’t human anymore, and her power was something no human could stop. Without full confidence in the situation, he couldn’t afford to provoke her.
She could even quietly kill Xu Zhao if she wanted, and they’d have no way of knowing it was her hand behind it.
For her to show herself today, she must have a purpose.
So Zhao Kehan asked, "Tell me—what is your purpose? You can also tell me what happened to you. We’ll see you get justice."
The words were somewhat weak, really. Even though they knew the people who’d died in that case had most likely harmed Su Chen, they just couldn’t find any evidence to prove it.
Ah Chen smiled and shook her head. "I came here today specifically to wait for you, Officer Zhao. You must have guessed a few things by now, right? At this point, it’s time to make certain matters clear."
Zhao Kehan let out a subtle breath of relief, but when he glanced at Xu Zhao his heart tightened again. He kept feeling that, in the end, Su Chen still wouldn’t let Xu Zhao go.
But at least for the moment, Xu Zhao was still safe.
"Su Chen, say whatever you want to say. We’ll record everything here—we can put on record every word of yours, all of your demands. As long as it’s within our power, we’ll help you realize it," Zhao Kehan said.
Since Su Chen was capable of all this, he guessed she might be in possession of more information.
And as for the people who died in the fall case—had they all been killed by Su Chen, with no one else involved?
Once he asked, he’d know. He believed that if Su Chen was waiting here for him, she’d definitely lay everything out.
Hanging there in Ah Chen’s grip, Xu Zhao wished he could just pass out.
He’d thought everything that had happened recently was Su Chen’s family seeking revenge. Never in his life had he imagined Su Chen had turned into a vengeful ghost herself.
In that moment, Xu Zhao finally regretted it.
Regretted ever provoking Su Chen, regretted ever getting entangled with this woman who was both uncompromisingly serious and terrifyingly capable.
If Su Chen hadn’t died—if she’d just stayed alive, read her books, practiced law—then they wouldn’t have gotten mixed up like this. He wouldn’t be in this position today.
He’d also figured out that with how powerful Su Chen was now, she didn’t need anyone else’s help to get revenge. If it weren’t for the fun of terrifying them, she could easily have made them die in their sleep.
But to Su Chen, that wasn’t what she wanted. She’d probably feel that was far too cheap for them.
He would die.
He was definitely going to die.
Su Chen was never going to let him off.
Drip, drip.
Ah Chen heard the sound and glanced down, only to see that Xu Zhao had pissed himself out of fear. With a disgusted shake of the rope, she flung Xu Zhao farther away, but he was still hanging from the hemp rope, unable to break free.
A uniformed officer leaned close to Zhao Kehan’s ear and whispered, asking if they should take other measures to get Xu Zhao rescued.
If the one holding Xu Zhao hostage were a human, Zhao Kehan wouldn’t hesitate at all. But the one holding him was a ghost, and he shook his head.
Su Chen’s power was beyond human control for now—it was best not to anger her.
Since she was willing to talk, they just needed to cooperate.
He wanted to know Su Chen’s story, and what exactly Xu Zhao and the rest had done. If they really were scum, then a vengeful ghost taking revenge was only natural, wasn’t it?
Coldly, Zhao Kehan sneered in his heart. The laws of the human world can only restrain humans; when it comes to a vengeful ghost like Su Chen, there was nothing he could do—let the Underworld handle that.
"Since you’re interested, Officer Zhao, I’ll tell you a little," Ah Chen said. Then, with a slap delivered across the space between them, she struck Xu Zhao’s face. He screamed in pain, and the right side of his face instantly swelled up high.
Sun Ling, however, felt incredibly vindicated. She even applauded, drawing several looks from others. She just couldn’t quite control the corners of her mouth lifting, though her eyes were filled with tears.
"Tell them what you people in 4508 did to me back then," Ah Chen ordered, lifting her hand slightly, making it plain that if Xu Zhao didn’t explain properly, he could expect another slap.
Today was the most humiliating day of Xu Zhao’s life—wetting himself in public, getting slapped around.
But all the shame in his heart was nothing compared to the fear before his eyes.
He stammered, "Back when we talked cooperation with Mu Shiming, he took a liking to Su Chen. You all know the Mu Family is a truly upper-class clan—being able to latch onto them would absolutely be a good thing. So what if Su Chen was Jiang Yizhou’s girlfriend? She’s just a woman. As long as there’s shared interest, what can a university student with no background like Jiang Yizhou do? Besides, it’s not like we wouldn’t give him benefits."
