Chapter 400: Chapter 398: Not So Fond of Studying, After All

’One thing after another... How could there be so much to do?’

Faye Yardley had originally come to the island just to find a few teachers and expand her knowledge.

But instead, a pile of miscellaneous tasks awaited her attention.

It wasn’t that she had to be the one making the decisions, but she needed to be informed about them.

The wedding attire was ready and the furniture had been crafted, so they invited her to the administration building to take a look.

So after discussing a few matters, Faye Yardley followed them to the administration building.

The first floor was a public service hall, the second floor held offices for the town’s administrative staff, and the third floor was the domain of the clothing artisans. The wedding and formal attire were all there.

There was even a set of traditional Veridian robes for her in a dazzling begonia red. The embroidery wasn’t completely finished, but its magnificence was already apparent.

Since Shawn Lawler and Laura Summers could purchase silk thread and other supplies from Lumina, they hadn’t made any special requests.

Faye had just remembered. "Thorne, if there are things we need here that can be bought in Lumina, just have them buy it. What’s the point of earning money if you don’t spend it? Lumina... should have plenty of low-to-mid-range cloth, clothing, shoes, and socks. They’d be very suitable for here."

"Alright. But that’s all your money we’d be spending, and we..." Wyatt Thorne felt a bit awkward, as they had yet to generate any wealth for her; she was the one constantly subsidizing everything.

"You’re all working for me. It’s only right that I foot the bill."

Faye Yardley waved it off. They had chosen to come to her island; it wasn’t as if she were the only one contributing.

Without them in the beginning, she wouldn’t have been able to claim this island in the first place.

She used to wonder if she’d be just fine on her own, without any island at all, but now she considered the island her final refuge.

After all, it was her personal property. That made all the difference.

And for that reason, she wanted the island to develop in a healthy, orderly manner, not by allowing just anyone to come aboard and turn the place into a chaotic mess.

’Putting myself in his shoes, I just can’t understand Logan Langdon’s methods,’ she thought. ’Unless he has a better alternative.’

Seeing that she was about done looking, Wyatt Thorne added, "By the way, your furniture is all displayed on the fourth floor. The workshop itself isn’t here, though; they moved it over by the school."

Since the master carpenters weren’t here, Faye Yardley looked around at the various pieces of furniture that had been prepared for the shop. After a quick look, she set aside one complete set that was suitable for the shop in Lumina and put all the others away.

By the time they headed over to the school, it was already evening. Faye said, "Let’s just go straight to the school cafeteria. I’m treating everyone to dinner."

’I really have a lot of food in my backpack. I should use some of it up now. I’ll have Willow make fresh things when I get back.’

"Alright, we’ll let you treat us then. But you should also try some of the things we’ve grown ourselves. We can definitely manage to stir-fry a dish or two." Wyatt Thorne also wanted to show her that their food supply was becoming self-sufficient.

The food in Faye’s backpack had been moved from her warehouse within the last day or two, where everything was kept in a state of temporal stasis.

Seafood had become a rare treat for the island’s inhabitants. Even with a few small boats, it was impossible to catch a substantial amount.

The steamed buns, egg-filled crepes, and dumplings were a welcome improvement to their usual fare.

They had plenty to eat on the island, and with so many people, nothing would go to waste.

After dinner, Faye inquired about the island’s animal husbandry. Unfortunately, it was progressing even more slowly than their agriculture.

Wyatt Thorne said having more pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, and geese would be better, so Faye said she would grab a batch from her raft later.

Just as she was preparing to bid them farewell and meet with the teachers alone, a secretary from the lab approached her. Handing Faye a black bag, she smiled and said, "Island Master, this is a new finished product from the lab. If it’s alright, we’d like to apply for a batch of raw materials. The requisition form and other documents are in the bag."

"Alright." Faye agreed, putting the bag into her own backpack.

’Where am I supposed to find lab supplies?’

Faye’s first thought was that she needed to go kill some zombies in a Dungeon as soon as possible.

Then, she approached the master carpenters, asking them to craft a complete set of furniture for a two-courtyard residence in a style she favored. She provided them with the building’s blueprints and left behind a pile of mid to High Level mahogany.

Meeting with the teachers alone, Faye instantly regretted it.

On any given topic, every teacher had a different opinion, and each one argued their point eloquently.

Faye just listened. When they asked for her input, she remained silent, wearing an expression that plainly said, ’Let’s see which of you can persuade me.’ She showed no favoritism.

She listened to them debate from 6 PM to 10 PM. Four solid hours. Faye had no idea how they managed to talk for that long; all she knew was that her own brain felt like it was about to explode.

She gave each of the six teachers a flask of sweet rice wine, then beat a hasty retreat from the school and fled back to her raft.

"Sister, what’s wrong?"

Willow Yardley asked with concern, seeing her return only to collapse motionless on the sofa.

She walked over, sat beside her, and began to gently massage her temples.

Faye heaved a long sigh. "I originally just wanted to meet the teachers, find out what they’re best at teaching, see if I liked any of it, and then decide... Now, I’m suddenly starting to think that a love of learning might be innate."

’Otherwise, with a Spirit Attribute this high, why would a mere four-hour lecture leave my head spinning?’

In the past, she couldn’t say she was passionate about studying, but it wasn’t wrong to say she enjoyed it. Everyone else was studying desperately, so she had to study hard too, and she had to be one of the best. She could lose to anyone, but never to Felicity Yardley and her crowd.

Only when studying was no longer the top priority in her life did she realize she wasn’t actually that fond of books.

"If there’s something you want to learn, Sister, you can just hire someone to come teach you personally. Then you can switch to a new teacher after a while."

Faye shook her head gently. "Forget it. I don’t want other people in my personal space. But... let me first check how the System handles arrangements for off-island students."

The System permitted the island’s school to accept students from the outside, but it required the construction of a Teleportation Array that only students could use. For those without access to an array, they could travel to the island by boat.

The students would be boarders, meaning they could only return home after completing a full semester at the school.

This was completely different from what Faye had imagined. She’d assumed they could commute daily.

’What a hassle.’

It really was a hassle. For starters, the Teleportation Array was a major issue.

Plus, with so many children of all ages staying at the school for an entire semester, they’d need several residential advisors, right?

’If that’s the case, it would be more convenient to just have all the children from my brother’s side sent to the island.’

’But stripping them of their status as seafaring players just for the sake of schooling seems a bit excessive. It would be more fitting for them to recruit a teacher over on their side.’

She didn’t agonize over it. She’d just let her brother’s group solve it themselves.
