Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts

Chapter 379 - 377: Anything I Can’t Pick Up Is Definitely Not a Good Thing

Chapter 379: Chapter 377: Anything I Can’t Pick Up Is Definitely Not a Good Thing

Faye Yardley, full and content, slumped onto the swing chair. She stared at the virtual screen, her mind blank.

[Even though it’s a rare peaceful day, I can’t shake this weird feeling of unease. Am I the only one?]

[You’re not alone. I feel the same. This quiet and stability makes me worry if I’ll even survive after this safe period ends.]

[What are the requirements to be chosen as an Island Master? Why can’t there just be more Island Masters?]

[How do you know there aren’t other Island Masters? And it’d be good if there were more guilds, too. It would give everyone more options.]

[You guys are just talking crap. Don’t you even look at the guild rankings? There are so many new guilds.]

[Guilds that aren’t Level 2 or higher still have to participate in system events. So joining one is no different from not being in one.]

[It’s because there are too many freeloaders like you that so many guilds exist but don’t want to recruit outsiders.]

[Hahaha... Check out my Iron Treasure Boxes! [Image: two_iron_treasure_boxes.jpg] Sorry, when luck comes knocking, you just can’t stop it.]

[...]

The discussion on the screen was lively, but Faye Yardley wasn’t really taking any of it in. She just felt that simply zoning out was a bit of a waste of time. But if there was something in front of her, she could treat it as a decent pastime, extracting information while she digested her meal.

A glass of hawthorn juice appeared in her hand. It was just what she needed—sour, sweet, and good for digestion.

’Treasure chests... I should probably go fish for some. With the bonus from my Talent, opening them is actually pretty fun.’

She just didn’t like having to fish for them herself.

’Oh well. Instead of lazing around here, I might as well go sit on the lounge chair outside and fish for chests. It’ll help with digestion, and I might even get something out of it.’

She had just settled into the lounge chair under the thatched hut when a call came in.

"Yardley, Yardley! Did you know there was other good stuff on the island we went to last night?" Master Veridian didn’t beat around the bush. He excitedly took out a tree node and said, "You should have some of these, right? Those eyes from the trees. Maybe they just fell off naturally after a certain amount of time. Anyway, I think I accidentally picked up two of them. This thing can actually be fitted into a person’s eye socket and act as a real eye."

"Huh?" Faye asked. "Who did you use it on?"

Master Veridian sighed, his excitement dimming considerably. "Who else? My unworthy second disciple, Henry Lewis. We scraped together some funds and called in a few favors to buy a Limb Regeneration Potion, which was quite effective for his injured arm, but one of his eyes was still useless. When we got this thing, we asked if he was willing to try it. He came over and just shoved it right into his eye socket. Then he excitedly said he could see again, that his eye was healed."

"Did he mention anything else besides being able to see again?"

"No. As soon as he recovered, he was so excited he was practically dancing. Then he just left."

Faye was worried the Master might not know that the tree eyes had a petrification ability when they were on the trees. Although she didn’t know if the withered ones had the same effect, she still explained the function to the Master and the others. She also wanted to ask them to check with Henry Lewis whether he could activate the tree eye’s original ability.

If he could, Faye felt that would be very bad. After all, Henry Lewis was hardly a good person. If he could petrify anyone just by looking at them, the terrifying implications...

Just thinking about it was enough to send a chill down her spine.

If it didn’t, and only restored his sight, that would naturally be the best outcome.

But what if?

Master Veridian and Zephyr Sterling exchanged a look, both surprised. "It has that kind of ability? We really didn’t notice before. But don’t worry, Yardley, I’ll ask him. I’d like to think that as his master, he still has some respect for me."

Faye, however, suspected that even if his master, Master Veridian, asked, Henry Lewis wouldn’t necessarily tell the truth.

’The petrification ability of a single eye was very weak, but that was when it was on a tree. What about on a person?’

’That was harder to say, wasn’t it?’

Faye only had three of them herself, gifts from Lucy White and Kingston. She hadn’t picked up any herself, though she had gathered plenty of tree mushrooms.

Those mushrooms were delicious. She had just eaten a lot of mushroom soup and had also asked Eamon to try and cultivate some.

"Okay, please let me know the result after you ask him, Master. I do have one here as well. I’ll ask my brother and Mr. Pierce later to see if they have any."

"Alright. Oh, right, I have some good news. Many of the medicinal herbs you gave me were very useful. I’ve concocted a formula that’s been recognized by the system. Once I make a few adjustments and turn it into pills, I’ll give them to you."

"That’s amazing, Master! What kind of pills are they for?"

Master Veridian cleared his throat and said, "They’re Beauty and Skin Care Pills. Very suitable for you young ladies."

"Oh!" Faye said, then smiled and thanked him. "Thank you, Master. After coming here, I completely forgot about things like skin care. Being exposed to the wind and sun every day, I really do need to take better care of my skin."

"Young ladies should take good care of themselves. I’ll let you know when I’ve developed more useful pills."

"Okay, you can do it, Master! I know you can!"

The call hadn’t even ended when she felt a distinct tug on her fishing rod. Faye yanked it up forcefully. What do you know—it was an Iron Treasure Box.

Master Veridian immediately said, "Yardley’s luck is as good as ever."

Faye chuckled, stowed the treasure box, and said goodbye to the Master.

As soon as she hung up, she sent a photo of the tree node and an explanation to her brother and Zachary Pierce separately. She asked if they had any, told them about the Master giving one to his second disciple, Henry Lewis, and explained how the tree eyes could emit petrifying rays when they opened on the trees.

If they had any, that would be for the best. They could give them to someone suitable who needed them.

If not, she would have to sacrifice one for Zachary Pierce’s people to research.

It wasn’t that she wanted to save the one Gold Coin it cost to travel back; it was that her island’s laboratory didn’t have enough researchers. With research projects piling up one after another, she was anxious for results. Naturally, the fastest way was to give it to Zachary Pierce’s team.

Fortunately, both of them replied that they did have one, but only a single one, which they had also found by chance.

This puzzled Faye. How come every one of them had found one, but she hadn’t?

’Is there something bad about this thing?’

’Otherwise, with her super-high Luck Value, it made no sense that everyone else had one but her.’

"Daddy System loves me so much, there’s no way it would just skip over me. So it’s not a problem with the System, which means there must be a problem with this tree eye."

Her logic was flawless. Faye believed the System wouldn’t screw her over, so naturally, the withered tree eye must have some huge, unsolvable problem.

Although it was just her personal speculation, she still sent a message to each of them. The gist was: if it’s something that even I can’t find, it must not be a truly good thing. Be careful.
