Chapter 333: Another Round of Hot Weather
Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Another Round of Hot Weather
In the end, Faye Yardley couldn’t take it anymore and handed the task of watching it over to Willow Yardley.
She sat down to the side and began her Cultivation of the Health Care Scripture.
She just didn’t realize that a few minutes after she started circulating the Health Care Scripture, the scroll had established some kind of energetic link with her.
Blackwood let out a low growl and leaped onto the small square table. He stared intently at the scroll, as if he would pounce on it with his claws at the slightest unusual movement.
As if sensing something, Ethan Yardley, who was inside the scroll, finally stopped pacing and began sprinting resolutely in one direction.
As for Faye Yardley, deep in her Cultivation, she could clearly feel that the Energy within her body was far more active than usual. It even tried to deviate from its proper channels from time to time.
She didn’t dwell on why this was happening, however, since her Cultivation efficiency was improving.
She found that by constraining the Energy within her, her control over her own power was also increasing.
Time ticked by. When Faye Yardley concluded her session and opened her eyes, she saw her brother walking out of the scroll, his body wreathed in flames.
"Brother, you..."
Ethan Yardley turned to look at his sister sitting on the rug and waved his hand. "I’m fine. I just can’t quite control the Fire Energy in my body yet."
"Ah, well, you should try your best to control it. Please don’t burn my house down."
Ethan Yardley: ...
A flaming figure walked out of the house and leaped directly into the sea.
Faye Yardley wasn’t worried that her brother would drown. Even without the Underwater Breathing Talent, he still knew how to dive and swim.
Besides, looking at the time, the system was about to send him back to his own raft anyway.
"Sister, the scroll seems dimmer than before."
Faye Yardley grunted in acknowledgment, turning her attention back to the scroll. Sure enough, the illustration within it, once clear, now seemed to have had its brightness turned down.
’So this isn’t a one-time-use item.’
Faye Yardley now understood. If the scroll found someone it deemed worthy, it would pull them right in. For anyone it didn’t recognize, no amount of staring would work.
So she decided to send this scroll, along with the box of Skill Books, to the island.
Faye Yardley took down the scroll and went straight to the dock.
She was about to head toward the village when a branch of Bramble appeared before her. It wrapped around her waist and, with a SWOOSH, whisked Faye Yardley into Franklin Yardley’s courtyard.
"Thanks, Bramble. You saved me a walk."
Franklin Yardley walked out and said respectfully, "Island Master."
"Mr. Franklin, could you go get Thorne? I’ll wait for him in your living room."
"Alright."
The two families lived right next to each other, so Wyatt Thorne arrived quickly.
"Island Master, what are your instructions?"
Faye Yardley pointed to the open wooden chest, then to the Inheritance Scroll she had hung on the wall. "I’ll leave these for you to manage, sir. The Inheritance Scroll is confirmed to be useful. Anyone it deems worthy will be pulled inside to receive some kind of inheritance; what they get specifically will likely depend on their own fortune. As for these Skill Books, I’m not sure if they’ll be effective for you all. Please arrange for some people to test them."
"Should we make them available to all the villagers for free?"
"Let’s base it on contribution. We need to give people an incentive to work hard."
"Understood."
In Wyatt Thorne’s eyes, Faye Yardley was looking more and more like a capable leader.
’The reason she put the items here with Franklin Yardley instead of giving them directly to me... it seems Faye Yardley truly understands the subtleties of such matters.’
Faye Yardley had no idea what kind of story Wyatt Thorne was spinning in his head. In any case, she had handed over the items, so her task was more or less complete.
However, she still took out ten thousand copper coins and handed them to Wyatt Thorne. "The island can’t rely on bartering forever. Let’s start using copper coins for now. If any Otherkin approach the dock and land on the island, they’ll recognize these coins as well."
After a moment’s thought, she also took out the one thousand silver coins earned from selling canned goods. "You should keep some silver coins on hand too, just in case. By the way, the canned fruit is selling very well. About the staffing and wages over there..."
"That’s something you should discuss with Sloan, Island Master." Wyatt Thorne was keenly aware that he didn’t need to involve himself in everything.
"Alright."
’The island really does need to establish an economic system.’
But Faye Yardley had absolutely no idea how to tackle it.
’The people working for me must be paid, of course, but what’s a fair amount?’
’This is giving me a huge headache.’
She didn’t dwell on it for long, though. ’In any case, there are only so many people and resources on the island right now. How bad could it possibly get?’
So, after meeting with Leo Sloan, she just tossed him ten thousand copper coins and one hundred silver coins and left it at that.
The copper coins, of course, had been converted from gold coins.
gold coin = 100 silver coins = 10,000 copper coins.
Therefore, the two conversions only used up 2 gold coins and 2 silver coins.
Returning to her raft, she felt the day had gone by surprisingly fast. It felt like she hadn’t done much of anything, yet evening had already arrived.
The next day, the system automatically ejected Faye Yardley’s raft from the dock.
Her own raft wasn’t allowed to remain docked at her own island for extended periods. Faye Yardley had protested this to the system more than once, but it was completely useless.
The system simply didn’t entertain any suggestions.
Back out on the sea, she found the temperature was getting higher and higher.
Her only sensation was heat. It was hot, so hot, incredibly hot.
She glanced down at her watch. It was only 8:10 in the morning, but the heat was already enough to make her break out in a sweat.
Faye Yardley went over to the thatched shelter and surrounded herself with large blocks of ice to cool down.
She listlessly cast her fishing rod. For some reason, she felt sluggish today, unable to muster up any enthusiasm.
"Sister, have some iced fruit juice. We harvested another batch of watermelons. They’re even bigger and sweeter than before, and they’re seedless, too!" Willow Yardley not only brought over a glass of watermelon juice but also placed a plate of sliced watermelon within Faye’s reach.
"Thanks. It’s so hot today."
"It is. Brother can start making and selling his ice blocks again."
Faye Yardley grunted in response. A slight glance upward was enough to see the blinding reflection of the sun on the water’s surface.
"In this weather, it looks like a lot of people seeking stability will choose to live on an island."
"Yeah, the slots you opened up are bound to be highly sought-after. By the way, Sister, you should check the national channel. I saw in the living room earlier that other islands are recruiting people too."
Faye Yardley had the system display the holographic screen so Willow could see it too.
[Our nation of Veridia has three Island Masters now, right? But look at the recruitment slots you guys have released! Only Island Master Langdon is being generous and letting everyone participate in the selection. What about the other two?]
[All the spots were probably filled internally. Outsiders like us never stood a chance.]
[Speaking of which, the siblings Island Master Yardley and President Yardley really don’t seem to care about their relatives at all. If you saw Mr. Yardley’s tearful accusations, every sentence is pure misery.]
[Please, I want to join The First Guild! @Ethan Yardley, President, I will firmly support all your decisions!]
[So annoying. You see these bootlickers everywhere. Can’t you just rely on yourself to survive?]
[Doesn’t anyone else feel like this weather is the start of another abnormal shift? It’s getting hotter day by day. The weather was just like this when we first arrived on the rafts, wasn’t it...?]
