Book 4, Chapter 66: All Brought To Heel
The three martial artists froze for a moment, but they were all Black Steel martial artists hired by United Might, and they were even elites among them.
They were strong enough to fight against royally appointed captains who had completed their transformation.
They all practiced mental energy, so a pure mental attack that carried no technique wouldn’t be able to defeat them.
Chen Chuan’s attack wasn’t aimed to defeat them, though. He was just making sure that they were around and trying to figure out their exact number.
Once their minds came into contact, Chen Chuan would be able to sense them even if they retreated.
He charged forward. By the time the mental attack reached the building, he was already only two hundred meters away from the trio.
Third Limit martial artists could close this distance in a second.
The trio realized that it was impossible for them to run away, but that was fine since they had no intention of escaping. Instead, they intended to face Chen Chuan directly.
They weren’t wrong to choose this. First, they didn’t know this enemy’s background and whether there were more people outside. Besides, even if their enemy looked strong, there was only one of him. They could work together to kill him, then decide on what they should do based on the situation.
As long as they weren’t surrounded by a large number of martial artists and armed combatants, they were absolutely capable of breaking free with their strength.
Since they wouldn’t be able to fight at full power in the building, they immediately moved outside and spread out. Right away, they saw their enemy charging at them from the other end of the street with a saber in hand.
The stout martial artist took out a round, metal ball from his waist and threw it.
It traveled two hundred meters to Chen Chuan. Then, a huge net exploded out of it.
At the same time, the other two threw one dagger at Chen Chuan each in order to seal off his escape routes.
Chen Chuan cast them a glance, and the Frost King Saber came out of its sheath. With a brilliant flash, it cut the net in half.
While swinging his saber down, Chen Chuan jumped forward. One of the daggers rammed into him, but it shattered into pieces when it came into contact with the refined force in his body. The pieces shot outward.
Chen Chuan showed no intention of getting into a prolonged fight with them here, because there were too many people in this area, and once Third Limit martial artists fought at full strength, their area of destruction was incredibly large. He had to end the fight as quickly as possible.
Chen Chuan overlapped with his second self. His saber flashed again, and he appeared above the stout martial artist while swinging the Frost King Saber down.
The martial artist was prepared to fight, but he did not expect Chen Chuan to be this fast. During that single instant, he had been unable to track him whatsoever.
He could sense that Chen Chuan was coming for him, though. In haste, he forced his body to turn to the side, but he was still a step too late. As the saber’s flash came down, the stout martial artist became frozen in place, and his expression turned slack.
Chen Chuan passed by him, turned his saber around, and did a horizontal slash at the second martial artist. After all, he was within reach.
The person had ruthless eyes and a thin face. He seemed to have pretty decent mental energy, because light shone from his eyes when Chen Chuan’s saber came swinging at him, and he was able to capture all of Chen Chuan’s movements.
Yet just because he could see it didn’t mean that he could avoid it. While his mind was able to follow, it was hard for him to move his body at the same speed. He could only watch as the saber moved past him while he was only able to lift the metal staff halfway to the blocking position.
But he refused to admit defeat. Based on what he could tell about the saber attack, it was only going to be able to cut him in half. This didn’t mean that he was going to lose all his ability to fight. He growled, curled his back, and looked like he was going to keep attacking.
Chen Chuan put a hand on his shoulder. He didn’t use any refined force.
Yet that tiny movement broke the balance in the thin-faced martial artist’s breathing and caused him to be unable to channel his power outward. He froze in place, and a stream of blood came out from his waist before gathering in a pool on the ground.
Chen Chuan’s hand remained on the thin-faced martial artist’s shoulder as he looked to the last martial artist.
The tall woman built like a bear stood still with a pick hammer in hand.
Her breathing was long and deep, and Chen Chuan could sense that her powerful muscles were filled with tough mutated tissue. Without a doubt, she was the strongest one among the three.
The woman leaned forward and jumped forward. While she was huge, she appeared agile.
Light shone in Chen Chuan’s eyes. He could see clearly that the woman charging at him was just an illusion generated by mental energy. Her real body was charging forward a step behind.
Since there was only a small distance between the illusion and her real body and she was traveling really quickly, the enemy would have a hard time seeing through it even if their mental energy was stronger. Because of this, they would make a misjudgment, and their attack would miss. This would then allow her to take them down in one hit.
Chen Chuan took a step back in the face of this attack, which put him away from where the woman had prepared to stop. While she would be able to adjust and hit him, she wouldn’t be able to attack at full strength.
When the woman saw the spot where Chen Chuan had moved to, frustration burned in her. She was forced to do micro adjustments during her charge and extend her body a bit while hoping to generate enough power.
Chen Chuan took a step forward and returned to his original position. He also used the momentum of his movement to deliver a kick.
His act of stepping back, then moving forward threw the woman off her rhythm completely, and she no longer had the time to adjust. All she could do was watch as the swift and powerful kick arrived in front of her and landed on her chin.
Due to Chen Chuan’s power, the ground beneath him shattered. An explosive sound so loud that it would make a person’s ears ring came from the spot he hit.
The woman’s chin was hurled up so hard that her neck was completely exposed. Chen Chuan spun on his foot and kicked her chest.
Bam!
The woman was sent flying and crashed into a wall so hard that she shattered the bricks. Then, she stopped moving.
Chen Chuan lowered his foot slowly. He still had one hand on the thin-faced martial artist’s shoulder and could sense the man trembling minutely.
Chen Chuan had instantly defeated the trio, yet they were all simply heavily injured. This was an even harder feat than killing his enemies.
He was able to do this because after overlapping with his second self, his speed and strength dominated the trio. Besides, he also had great mental energy, so he could see the trajectory of their refined forces. He was practically fed one-way information about them.
His eyes flashed. United Might wanted to explore the merged space, but the three were far from being qualified. Among the trio, only the woman had reached the threshold to learn the Heartborn Force.
Meanwhile, all those who could join the development squad in the merged space were made of martial artists who could use the Heartborn Force, like Chen Bitong, Lao Hu, and Yang Shen. They also had great teamwork. As for these three?
Theirs was no teamwork.
Judging by the situation, it was highly likely that United Might had sent more people over, not just these three, but Chen Chuan had yet to track them down. He should focus on bringing the three back for interrogation first.
He put a hand on his Realm Pass and said to his team. “I’m done here. Someone gave them a heads-up while I was heading over, so they should have subordinates in the area. I don’t know how many. Be careful.”
Since there were quite a number of residents in the area, he couldn’t just use his mental energy to attack everything. Hence, he was bound to have missed some people.
He was going to leave them to his team.
Chen Chuan took a look at Dawncall, which was circling in the air, before letting go of the thin-faced martial artist’s shoulder. Then, he went into the building where the trio had been.
The thin-faced martial artist remained frozen, not daring to move. He could sense a wave of refined force in his body. If he moved, it might surge into his brain, and he would die a horrible death.
Chen Chuan looked around. Most of the things inside were training equipment and safety gear. On the table was a map of Central City, and at the bottom was a telegraph set. Scattered on the floor were emptied tubes of nutritional paste.
Chen Chuan headed further inside and saw a metal box about half the height of an adult man at the very end, but it was empty, and he couldn’t figure out what it was used for.
He went over and took a look before asking, “Safe Shield, take a look. What’s this?”
“Analyzing... Based on the size of the box and the residue on its walls, this box might have contained a large bioweapon that has never been sold on the market before.”
A large bioweapon, huh?
Chen Chuan took another look at the box. It was half the height of an adult man even though bioweapons were usually shipped in a curled-up state. He could only imagine just how huge this thing was once it straightened up.
“Can you tell how long ago this thing has left?” he asked.
“Based on the traces, it should have left around three to five hours ago.”
Chen Chuan raised an eyebrow at that. If it left around three to five hours ago, it would have gone out in the morning, but Huang Weiyi’s scout hadn’t noticed anything.
It was impossible for such a large thing to go unnoticed.
This means...
Chen Chuan pushed the metal box aside and saw a deep pit underneath.
