Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4, Chapter 55: Analysis

Book 4, Chapter 55: Analysis

Swamp Training Camp, huh? Chen Chuan considered this. The trainees weren’t that much trouble.

According to what Qu Tianli said, there were only five of them, including him, who had reached the Third Limit. Qu Tianli was average among them.

This cleared up their standards. They couldn’t be that much stronger than Qu Tianli, so the five weren’t going to be much of a threat to Chen Chuan.

At most, he needed to pay attention to the two instructors. Based on Qu Tianli’s description, they were different from the five trainees.

As for the head instructor, Qu Tianli had never met him and didn’t know how strong he was. If he was a Third Limit martial artist as well, Chen Chuan didn’t have to worry too much. He didn’t think that there was any martial artist completely out of his reach, not when Chen Chuan was at his current level.

But if that person was a martial arts master...

He would have to worry even less, because the man wouldn’t come on his own. This didn’t mean that all martial arts masters scoffed at the thought of bullying someone weaker, but because Central City was incredibly wary of martial arts masters. Chen Chuan believed that the city had its ways to deal with such people and wouldn’t let them appear directly in the city.

Even so, he needed to make all the necessary preparations.

“Mr. Chang, Miss Gao, to make sure no further accidents happen, please stay in some other place over the next few days. You can rent an apartment. Someone else should take care of the construction work,” he said.

Chang Dong immediately accepted his suggestion and said, “Okay, I’ll pack up right now. We can leave tonight. By the way, what do you intend to do with him?”

He pointed at Qu Tianli.

“I’m going to bring him to the Resolution Department and keep him in detention for a while,” Chen Chuan stated.

He checked with his Realm Pass. Qu Tianli had no ID, but had still managed to come to the city, which meant that he went through one of the tunnels leading from the merged space. Regardless of whether it was a secret tunnel or someone let him use their tunnel, the Resolution Department could handle the investigation. Chen Chuan could even ask Safe Shield to keep a close eye on Qu Tianli. Then, if he did anything else in the future, Chen Chuan would be given a heads-up ahead of time.

Gao Yanjun walked over and handed him a document. “Please take a look, Lead Investigator Chen.”

It was a transcript of the conversation just now, along with a detailed report of the entire skirmish. Gao Yanjun’s handwriting was beautiful, and she described everything concisely.

“It would be far too easy for the report to reach the wrong hands if I wrote it with the Realm Pass, so I wrote it by hand. It’s also easier for me to send it back like this to the purity faction for filing purposes after you signed it. This will make it easier to refer to it in the future,” Gao Yanjun explained.

Chen Chuan nodded and signed the report with the pen she handed to him. Then, he handed both to Chang Dong. The man signed the report too before handing it back to Gao Yanjun for safekeeping.

Chen Chuan took a few steps forward, grabbed Qu Tianli, went to his car, threw the man into the trunk, and got into the driver seat.

Chang Dong was clearly ready to switch locations at any time. In less than five minutes, he packed all of his essentials. Gao Yanjun had only arrived, so she didn’t need to pack a lot of things. She just went inside, grabbed some things, and came out with her luggage bag.

Both of them had their own cars. Once they saw Chen Chuan starting his car, they did the same and followed him out.

While on the road, they kept in constant contact with each other via their Realm Passes to prevent any accidents from happening.

After a while, Chen Chuan asked, “Mr. Chang, how much of the purity faction’s secret techniques did the target learn?”

Chang Dong sighed at that and answered, “The purity faction had trained him to be the pillar of the faction, so they taught him many of their secret techniques. Even if he didn’t practice them, he still has seen them. I can’t tell just how many of our secret techniques he knows.

“After he turned traitor, we tightened control over what we taught, and we no longer teach our members everything. Even the talented members worthy of our attention are only taught some of our techniques. They need to pass certain evaluations, or we won’t teach them more.”

Chen Chuan nodded. “I checked earlier. The techniques Qu Tianli learned were really suited for him. They let him bring out his talent fully.

“He wouldn’t have reached his current level without proper guidance.

“If it was just him, it wouldn’t mean anything, but he said that his instructors can bring out all of the trainees’ strengths and full talents. That’s some impressive talent in teaching.”

Chang Dong pondered over this before saying, “The target was a true all-round talent. He was able to apply what he learned on other things and make them even better. If he’s the head instructor, I wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to teach the two instructors the same thing.”

“Mr. Chang, we need to recruit more administrative members for our branch,” Gao Yanjun said.

“I’ll let you handle this, Miss Gao,” Chang Dong stated. “I’ll handle recruiting the proper members of the purity faction. According to the faction, I should recruit young people with clean backgrounds and great potential.

“It would be great if they had mental energy-related talent, but such people are few and far in between. Usually, the moment one shows up, someone else will recruit them. Lead Investigator Chen, you work at the Resolution Department. Do you know where we could find such people?”

It was just a random question, but Chen Chuan gave him an answer that made him perk up.

“Mental energy-related talent? I do know of one.”

“Oh? Where are they?” Chang Dong straightened his back.

Chen Chuan turned his steering wheel. “She has always wanted a peaceful life and has only just survived a traumatic event. She might not agree to join. I’ll ask her first.”

Chang Dong sighed at that. “You’re right. Nothing good will come from forcing someone to join us. We need to respect her wishes. But it won’t be easy for her to stay out of trouble in this day and age, not when she has a mental energy-related talent.”

He shook his head.

Around an hour later, they arrived at Martial Order District, and Chen Chuan got a safe place for them.

Before leaving, he told them to be careful and to keep in contact with him over this period of time.

Now that they were here, though, their safety was practically guaranteed.

As a lead investigator of the Resolution Department, Chen Chuan could mobilize plenty of resources. He hadn’t been able to do so earlier, because he was at Roaring Victory District, but here, the moment he gave an order, a large group of bioweapons and Resolution Department officers would rush over.

After leaving them to their own devices, Chen Chuan sent Qu Tianli to the Resolution Department and returned to his apartment in Martial Valor University.

Back in United Might, after Yang Ling finished communicating with the active biosentient entity, she walked out of the basement. The assistant was waiting for her and bowed.

“The Elephant Gang has rejected us. We believe that the Resolution Department had a hand in this.”

“I understand. What else?” Yang Ling asked.

“The Union came and gave us an invitation. They’d like you to visit them to talk about some business partnerships. We believe that they want to use our tunnel to go to the merged space.”

“Tell them to send a representative,” Yang Ling ordered. “They’re the ones who need us more in this regard.”

The assistant had no objections to that.

While United Might wasn’t a global-level mega corporation, it had more armed combatants than the average company due to its business.

Aside from the martial artists they trained, they could also recruit a large number of martial artists on their mercenary platform within a short notice, so they didn’t need to care about the Union’s opinion.

They were perfectly capable of claiming the artifact for their own.

The assistant took a step forward and whispered into Yang Ling’s ear, “Our personnel should have arrived.”

Yang Ling nodded.

A few days later, it was the end of September.

Chen Chuan took the airship out to train during the day. After coming back, he replied to messages and reports sent to him from various parties while paying attention to his students and friends’ training.

On this day, after coming back, he took a look at the messages regarding United Might. Everything was the same as before.

But once he finished reading everything, he noticed something off. United Might hadn’t done anything so far. Weren’t they being too well-behaved?

Chen Chuan gave this some thought before asking Safe Shield to display all of United Might’s calls, communications between personnel, business discussions, and other such things on his screen. Then, he asked Safe Shield to show it in the form of a line chart. The lines fluctuated only slightly.

This meant that United Might had been doing practically the same thing every day.

Chen Chuan’s gaze sharpened.

Something was wrong.

Even though he was lacking experience in terms of investigation compared to the other officers in the department, he was a martial artist, and he had instincts normal people didn’t have.

Usually, a restrained target kept under watch wouldn’t stay still and show no resistance, unless they wanted to just wither and die. Such an action meant there was a trick up their sleeves.

He thought of a possibility and said to Safe Shield, “I need you to analyze something. Let’s say United Might has another team coming to Central City. Where are they most likely to show up, and how would they communicate with the company building?”

Half a minute later, Safe Shield said, “According to my analysis, they might show up in these districts: Deep End District, Glowing Dew District, and Grand Morals District.”

A few red dots appeared on the Central City map on the screen before him.

“We did not notice United Might having unsupervised contact with someone else, so they might have decided to act independently.

“For this strategy, the second team’s leader would need great decision-making rights. United Might would have to send out a security guard above Black Steel Grade to supervise such an operation.

“I need to warn you that if you plan to go up against a martial artist like this, you should send out a squad captain to ensure the operation’s success.”

Chen Chuan mulled over this. He felt that the truth was just as Safe Shield analyzed. He couldn’t just pay attention to the people in the company. He also had to pay attention to those outside and search for them.

Honestly, this was a chance for him. If such a team did exist in Central City, they would have no ID, and he would have absolutely no problem in getting rid of them.

Killing them would deliver a huge blow to United Might, and they wouldn’t be able to do anything for a time.
