Chapter 2388: Chapter 2195: What Kind of World Is This_4
"Stop!"
Out of the dark tree shadows suddenly came a low shout.
The man in night clothes paused mid‑step and turned his head. From the black mass of tree shadows another figure sprang out, wearing a Taoist robe and holding a horsetail whisk. With a flick of his wrist, the whisk swept toward the man in night clothes. The man tried to dodge back, but with Lu Yaobing slung over his shoulder his movements were hindered, and the whisk still brushed him. The soft‑looking whisk swept across the night clothes and actually carved out streaks of scratches, like an iron brush, scraping off a chunk of flesh by sheer force.
This Taoist was none other than Li Wenxin, the one who had previously given Song Xiaodong a piece of jade and left his own Taoist temple to travel down the mountain.
"Junior brother, show me your face when you talk to me." Li Wenxin said to the man in black.
The man in black was silent for a long moment, then relaxed his hand and threw the sack containing Lu Yaobing onto the ground.
Lu Yaobing let out a miserable cry as she hit the ground, kicking frantically inside the sack.
The man in black glanced at Lu Yaobing but ignored her, raising his hand to tear off the hood covering his face.
Underneath was a face exactly the same as Li Wenxin’s.
Equally old and withered.
Li Wenxin and Li Wendao were blood brothers.
"Bare your chest and let me see." Li Wenxin said to Li Wendao.
Obediently, Li Wendao loosened his clothes, exposing his chest, where a clear, swollen red footprint stood out.
On the night Song Xiaodong cured Zhang Jiajia, a man in black had come to assassinate Jiajia, and Li Wenxin had kicked him squarely in the chest.
That big footprint was now on Li Wendao’s chest.
"Junior brother, the Taoist temple is already yours. What more are you dissatisfied with?" Li Wenxin asked Li Wendao.
"You made me wait sixty years before giving me the temple, and now you ask what I’m dissatisfied with?" Li Wendao bared his teeth, snarling at Li Wenxin.
"If you’ve got a grievance with me, come at me. Let Mr. Song’s disciple go." Li Wenxin pointed at the sack holding Lu Yaobing and said to Li Wendao.
"This is between me and Mr. Song. As for what’s between you and me, I’m saving that to settle slowly." Li Wendao also turned his head to glance at the sack.
Although Lu Yaobing’s hands and feet were bound and tape sealed her mouth, she could still hear Li Wenxin and Li Wendao talking.
"Mr. Song only treated a sick person. What deep hatred do you have with him?" Li Wenxin asked Li Wendao.
"Mr. Song shouldn’t save just anyone." Li Wendao replied.
"Exorcise evil and defend the Way, save the world and heal the people—how did Master teach you? Listen to what you’re saying now, does it sound like something a Taoist would say?" Li Wenxin’s old face flushed with anger, the finger he pointed at Li Wendao trembling slightly, his eyes full of fury and disappointment.
"Senior brother, don’t work yourself up. Didn’t Master constantly teach us to cast off the seven emotions and six desires, to cultivate the body and temper the nature?" Li Wendao mocked Li Wenxin.
"Let her go, and I’ll submit to whatever you decide!" Li Wenxin said to Li Wendao.
"Hahahahaha!" Li Wendao threw back his head and laughed.
"Master always said your skill was higher than mine. Today I’ll walk a bout with you, to judge jade from stone and see whose level is higher!" Li Wendao’s body shook and the night clothes he wore slipped to the ground; underneath he too wore a Taoist robe. He flicked his whisk and charged forward to clash with Li Wenxin. Both used horsetail whisks, and as the tassels of the two whisks scraped against each other, they rang with the sound of metal striking metal.
Chapter 2197 Life‑and‑Death Struggle
Li Wenxin’s cultivation was higher than Li Wendao’s. After a few exchanges, Li Wenxin spun in a Falling Wild Goose move, and lashed his whisk across Li Wendao’s face. But he didn’t aim to kill; he merely blinded Li Wendao for a moment. Seizing the chance, Li Wenxin kicked, sending Li Wendao staggering back several steps.
If Li Wenxin had used the same force as when he’d struck Li Wendao before, Li Wendao’s face would now be riddled with tiny holes.
"I’m fighting you to the death and you still hold back on me?" Li Wendao’s eyes bulged, veins standing out.
"Why?" Li Wenxin spread his hands and asked Li Wendao.
"What I want, I’m determined to get. What my daughter wants, I’m determined to let her have!" Li Wendao replied.
"She really is your daughter?" Li Wenxin asked in shock.
"So surprised? You saw it long ago, yet you insisted on saying nothing. You knew perfectly well I stop at nothing, but you still insisted on giving me the position of Taoist priest of the temple. That’s indulgence!" Li Wendao said to Li Wenxin.
"Mr. Song saved my daughter’s enemy, so I’ll kill Mr. Song’s sect members!" Li Wendao finished speaking and his body shuddered. The Peach Wood Sword strapped to his back flew up into the air, screaming toward Li Wenxin.
"If you want to lay a hand on her, then first show some real skill against me!" Li Wenxin said, and drew his own Peach Wood Sword, trading several moves with the Peach Wood Sword Li Wendao was directing to fly through the air. Grabbing an opening, he knocked Li Wendao’s Peach Wood Sword flying off to the side.
"Your mind is crooked and your art poorly learned. Today, I’ll cleanse the sect on Master’s behalf!" Li Wenxin said as he drew a Talisman from his sleeve. It was clearly just a piece of Yellow Mounting Paper covered in drawn symbols, yet Li Wenxin hurled it at Li Wendao as if it were a rock.
"You’re cleansing the sect for yourself. You’ve been waiting a long time for this day, haven’t you!" Li Wendao retorted as he flicked out a Talisman of his own. The two Talismans collided, transforming respectively into lightning and flowing water, bursting with sparks like a transformer exploding, crackling with a rapid series of snaps and pops.
