Chapter 1347 - 1373: Take Care of Your Health
Chapter 1347: Chapter 1373: Take Care of Your Health
"So soon? Then you really need to take good care and get some rest."
Madam Shi tossed out a few dry polite phrases, and felt that as a lady of status, there really wasn’t much she could say to a little country girl like Jiang Tian—it would be beneath her.
So she found an excuse to go to the kitchen, leaving Jiang Tian to sit and wait for dinner.
Jiang Tian was unfamiliar with everything here, and Old Master Shi and the old madam were both not much for talking.
She felt unbearably awkward, seeking a sense of security as she looked towards Lu Xingshen, but the man didn’t even spare her a glance.
Jiang Tian bit her lip, a feeling of being utterly alone washing over her.
"Second Uncle, you’re here!"
A cheerful female voice rang out; a delicate, pretty girl ran down from the stairway, her brows and eyes shining with brightness.
Jiang Tian recognized her; this was Shi Yue, the Shi Family’s third young lady.
Shi Yue went straight to Lu Xingshen, smiling until her eyes curved, looking up at him with eyes full of soft adoration.
Lu Xingshen crushed out his cigarette and made a neutral-sounding "mm."
Second Uncle had always treated her coldly, but Shi Yue didn’t get annoyed; she even reached out to hook her arm through Lu Xingshen’s.
She wheedled softly, "Second Uncle, ever since Nuannuan got married, you haven’t come to see me in ages. I missed you!"
Lu Xingshen’s expression flickered for a moment. No matter how much time passed, the two syllables "Nuannuan" were still the unattainable white moonlight in his heart—just touching them made his chest ache and itch.
He moved to pry Shi Yue’s hand off. "Let go. You’re an adult now—what does it look like, clinging and tugging at me like that?"
"You’re my Second Uncle. What’s wrong with me hugging you?"
Shi Yue said boldly. Shi Nuan was already married, so her fiercest rival was gone; from now on she could monopolize Second Uncle’s affection.
"Second Uncle, my birthday’s coming up too. For my birthday present, I just want you to be a little more tolerant of me, like you were with Nuannuan. Okay~?"
Lu Xingshen paused, but didn’t force Shi Yue’s arm away. Shi Yue smiled triumphantly, and only then seemed to notice Jiang Tian.
"Eh, Second Uncle, is this the country girl you married?"
Called out by name, Jiang Tian pressed her lips together and stood up, her gaze fixed on the hand Shi Yue had wrapped around Lu Xingshen’s arm.
"Hello, I’m Jiang Tian."
"Hi there." Shi Yue looked innocent and cute. "I’ve long heard my mom say Second Uncle got married—so it was you. You’re really pretty, not at all like some tacky woman from the countryside."
Jiang Tian frowned slightly. Why did it feel like Third Miss Shi was hostile towards her? The way she talked seemed to flaunt her own superiority every second.
But Shi Yue looked genuinely sincere; maybe she was overthinking it.
Jiang Tian smiled lightly. "The countryside is great—beautiful scenery, fresh air. If you ever go, you’ll see the people there are very simple and easy to be around."
Shi Yue’s eyes curved with her smile. "Then I really have to go see it if I get the chance. But you look about the same age as me; calling you ’Aunt’ feels weird. I’ll just call you Sister Tian."
Jiang Tian gave a faint smile. "As long as you’re happy."
Shi Yue turned to look at Lu Xingshen again, and grumbled in obvious displeasure,
"Second Uncle, you got married, and to such a beautiful wife, and you didn’t even invite our whole family to a wedding banquet? That’s really not cool of you."
Lu Xingshen said offhandedly, "Who said I was going to hold a wedding?"
"Huh? No wedding? Then what kind of marriage is that supposed to be?
Everyone gets married with a wedding ceremony. If you just ignore everything like this, Sister Tian will be hurt!"
Shi Yue sounded like she was standing up for Jiang Tian, her voice sharp with indignation—without realizing that every word was rubbing salt into Jiang Tian’s heart.
