Chapter 536 - 440: The Beginning of a War-Torn Earth
Chapter 536: Chapter 440: The Beginning of a War-Torn Earth
Three days was an incredibly short amount of time.
Just as people were still busy collecting Zombie Crystal Cores to upgrade their superpowers, a pinhole-like opening suddenly appeared in the sky.
Although it was tiny, its pitch-black color, like a black hole, was glaringly conspicuous. Since it was daytime, many people looked up, curious about the hole that had abruptly torn through the sky.
The moment they looked, a flood of radiation-like energy shot straight into their eyes. Those without superpowers were struck by instantaneous blindness, while those with superpowers didn’t feel much of an effect yet.
They only felt that the sunlight was different from before. Even without seeing the sun directly, the scattered light prickling their skin caused a slight stinging sensation.
The protective layer of this blue-green planet had been breached, and cosmic energy instantly began pouring in through the tiny hole. What flowed in wasn’t just various cosmic energies, but also cosmic radiation—something only those with superpowers could withstand for long.
Many people sensed something was wrong and quickly sought shelter to hide themselves. But for some ordinary people, it was already too late.
The light, a mixture of complex cosmic energies and radiation, began to corrupt and damage their skin upon contact.
Just as it had been at the start of the apocalypse, this radiation, like a super-virus, relentlessly devoured the non-superpowered individuals who had nowhere to hide.
The only ones who escaped were those who had stayed inside their bases, along with a handful who had managed to hide in caves or the dilapidated corridors and rooms of the city.
However, that was far from the end of it.
The cosmic energy was rich with the elemental energies the evolving Earth craved. With its protective layer breached, the planet began to frantically absorb this foreign power.
However, the spatial rifts that still existed on Earth also began to grow faster, fueled by this new energy.
The Earth began to change.
Energy started to permeate the very air, gradually transforming every living thing through a unique process, bit by bit.
From the largest mutated or evolved beasts to the smallest ant, and even a single blade of grass, everything was slowly being altered.
The earth awakened, and all life grew with wild abandon. In an instant, vegetation covered over eighty-five percent of the planet’s landmass, excluding the oceans.
Whether in the original cities or inside the bases, buildings slowly decayed under the corrosion of cosmic radiation. Only structures that had been reinforced by Earth Element or Gold Ability Users withstood the test.
It all happened so fast that no one was prepared. That included the people of Morhaven base.
However, not a single person in Morhaven base died during this sudden environmental shift.
This was because Morhaven base was encased within a cage-like barrier of towering plants. Everyone had stocked up on supplies and food, staying put on their own little plots of land within the base.
Naturally, they avoided this unexpected disaster.
The flora protecting Morhaven base towered to the heavens and burrowed deep into the earth, connecting nearly half of Morhaven. Over the past three years of the apocalypse, its underground root network had spread to cover almost the entirety of Morhaven’s subterranean world.
In the old forests outside Morhaven base, the plants that had climbed out of the giant crater were also unaffected. In fact, they seemed to be relishing this baptism of cosmic energy, as if it were cleansing their bodies. Wisps of Spiritual Energy began to awaken within them.
They were evolving!
This was the information Flora Bloom learned after the underground root network of Morhaven fed the energy data back to her.
The entire world was undergoing this baptism.
Morhaven base had become the safest region in all of Veridia. It was at this moment that Archie, the man in white, arrived in Morhaven, bringing a message for Flora Bloom and Lex Cross.
"The sharp decrease in Earth’s zombies has likely been noticed by the King of the Deadlands. I’m here to tell you, little cutie, that I’ll be needing your protection from now on."
Flora Bloom rolled her eyes at the glib, white-clad Archie. "Do you know who they sent?"
Archie lay right down on the lawn, enjoying the natural massage from the tall grass.
"It doesn’t matter which one. Whether it’s Thousand-Eye or Linden, you can’t beat either of them."
As Archie spoke, Lex Cross’s gaze shifted toward the sky.
"They’re already here..."
"You people from the Ancient Star Nation are truly shameless. Every time a new planet emerges, you make such a huge scene sending people over."
"As expected, your Ancient Star Nation is the best at invasions!"
