Chapter 491: Chapter 423: A Woman’s Ordeal (Part 2)
He had never cared about Flora Bloom’s past life before.
Because it was over.
But he never expected that after all this time, she would still be haunted by her past life.
He didn’t blame Flora Bloom for her reaction. Instead, for the first time, he began to doubt himself. He now understood that because Flora had been reborn, his own past decisions—what he had once thought was for her own good—were the cause of her deeply scarring experience.
He could tear Shelton Underwood to pieces this very second. He would kill him every time he came back to life. But as for Flora’s heart... how could she ever move on from this?
His eyes filled with heartache as he looked at Flora Bloom. Her face had turned a livid color, and her lips were growing dark.
"Flora, does it hurt badly?" Lex Cross looked at Maeve Preston. "Dr. Preston, is there any way to ease her pain?"
"I’m sorry..."
"I’ll try!" Robin Grant took out his usual set of acupuncture needles and quickly inserted them into Flora Bloom’s wrists and legs. The slender silver needles were still vibrating as Flora Bloom felt a cool sensation suddenly begin to spread through her body.
The pain eased slightly, but the agony of dilation and childbirth couldn’t be eliminated so easily.
In the Blooms’ villa, Joel Bloom, whom Lex Cross had just placed on the sofa, opened his eyes to find himself alone. A faint commotion seemed to be coming from the house next door.
His head was still ringing. He struggled to his feet and patted his head, only coming to his senses after he fumbled his way to the kitchen and drank some of the spiritual water Flora Bloom had left in the villa.
He slowly walked to the door of the neighboring house and saw Shelton Underwood, his hands and feet bound by Lex Cross’s dark energy.
"Shelton?"
Besides the few who had returned from Argent with Flora Bloom, no one else knew about her past life or what was happening.
"Kill him!"
Flora Bloom’s voice came from inside. Joel Bloom pushed through the crowd and opened the door.
Flora’s face may have changed recently, losing some of its former beauty, but the composure and presence his sister had carried since the apocalypse began were deeply etched in his mind.
From his initial struggles to adapt, he had made Flora Bloom his role model, constantly training and tempering himself. Even though he still hadn’t awakened a superpower, he was no longer the self-centered Joel Bloom he used to be.
He had come to understand the painstaking effort behind everything Flora Bloom did for him.
But the woman before him now, with her darkened, colorless face and black lips, had a look in her eyes that was resentful and bloodthirsty.
"Sis..."
Flora Bloom tried to force a reassuring smile for Joel Bloom, but found she couldn’t even lift the corners of her mouth.
Lex Cross held Flora Bloom in his arms, his eyes glistening. "Flora, calm down. Just say the word, and I’ll do it for you."
Lex Cross’s dark energy shot from his body, striking Shelton Underwood, who was being guarded outside by Five and the others.
Flora Bloom cried silently and listlessly in his arms. The atmosphere was terrifyingly oppressive.
Both Caleb Bloom and Jade knew of Shelton Underwood. Since the apocalypse began, they had long forgotten his existence. Seeing him now felt like seeing a ghost from another life.
What shocked them even more was the immense hatred their daughter held for this man.
Joel Bloom wiped away the tears that wouldn’t stop streaming from his eyes. He didn’t want to see this dark, fragile side of his sister.
He stepped out of the crowd and walked toward Shelton Underwood.
"Why does my sister hate you so much? What did you do to her?!" Joel Bloom roared, standing before the man whose body was about to be torn apart by Lex Cross’s dark energy.
"I didn’t! You bitch! I didn’t do anything! Why are you doing this to me?!" Until the moment his body disintegrated, Shelton Underwood’s eyes were fixed in Flora Bloom’s direction.
He had completely remembered everything from before the apocalypse. She was pregnant, and she had become so hideous. And right now, the woman who had been his girlfriend when he was still human was having another man’s child!
"You slut, you cheated on me! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!"
Shelton Underwood suddenly turned his gaze to Joel Bloom.
The crumbling flesh of his body, filled with black Death Energy, was flaking off and dissipating. At the last moment, his eyes erupted with black Death Energy as he charged at Joel Bloom.
"So what if I die! I’m going to make her beloved little brother just like me—a mindless, walking corpse, forced to exist in this world forever! HAHAHAHA!"
Joel Bloom was engulfed by the black Death Energy, which wrapped around his upper body and his entire head.
