A ring of black energy encircled Nina Rook’s delicate neck. With a single, swift contraction, it choked off all her oxygen.
Lex Cross’s expression didn’t change; he remained as impassive as ever. To Nina Rook, that was the most terrifying part.
She had always thought Lex Cross was emotionally detached, that perhaps the time just wasn’t right for him to pursue a relationship. But the cruel truth was that he simply didn’t like her.
He didn’t like her. That was why even as he killed her, his face was blank—an expression so cold it made her very soul tremble.
"You... Aren’t you afraid? My family’s soul imprint... When they find out you killed me, my family won’t let you get away with this!
Flora Bloom... they’ll find out..."

The Rook Family Head had graced the event with her presence and presented a celebratory gift. Great Elder Aaron Rook was an elder who had served three generations of Rook family heads and was even older than the current Family Head.
Most importantly, his power had already reached the Cosmic Level. Given enough time, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to become a War God.
The power of a superpower user was categorized starting from the lowest rank, the Nebula Level. This was the level required just to get by in the Star Nation, and it was also the most common level for superpower users throughout the various cosmic regions.
Next was the Planet Level, a rank that the great families of the Star Nation all vied to recruit. This was because upon reaching this level, superpower users with exceptionally strong spiritual power could sense cosmic energy, allowing them to absorb it to cleanse their bodies’ energy pathways and strengthen themselves.
Superpower users who were unable to sense cosmic energy, however, would remain stuck at the Planet Level, incapable of any further advancement.
After that came the Cosmic Level. Once a superpower user reached the Cosmic Level, they could open up an internal space. This internal space was effectively a miniature energy-generating core, providing the user with immense power and multiplying their combat strength.
These internal spaces were also divided into tiers. The lowest was the ordinary internal space, which could be formed simply by reaching the Cosmic Level. The elemental type of the internal space would match the superpower user’s own affinity.
For example, if a plant-type superpower user had an ordinary internal space, it could only provide them with a finite amount of plant-type energy.
Once depleted, they would have to replenish it themselves by drawing from Energy Gemstones or by slowly absorbing and storing energy from the universe.
If they were to fight a powerful enemy one day without enough energy in reserve, they would be left completely at their foe’s mercy.
The tier above ordinary internal space was called a Spirit Level space. In addition to providing energy, it also had a storage function. The size of this storage space depended on the superpower user’s potential.
Someone with greater potential could not only open a larger Spirit Level internal space, but a larger space could also hold more energy to sustain the user during combat.
This meant that even among those who had opened Spirit Level internal spaces, there could be significant differences in power.

Furthermore, a Dark Level internal space didn’t require the user to actively absorb energy from the universe to replenish it; the space would do so on its own, drawing in free-floating cosmic energy.
Thus, a Cosmic Level superpower user who managed to open a Dark Level space was exceptionally powerful. But such individuals were exceedingly rare.
Above the Dark Level, there was also the Divine-level. However, since the founding of the Star Nation, only two people in all of history had ever possessed a Divine-level internal space.
One was the ancestor of the Cross family, who founded the Star Nation. The other was a genius girl who, according to legend, was hunted to her death by the various great families.
The difference was that the former had opened a Divine-level space upon reaching the Cosmic Level. The latter, however, had used her own unique advantages to first open eight separate Dark Level internal spaces at the Cosmic Level, then fused them all together to create her Divine-level space.
As for Aaron Rook, he had only recently advanced to the Cosmic Level and had not yet begun to open his internal space. He planned to enter seclusion after his birthday banquet to start accumulating energy and begin the process.
Although the Rook Family Head had already reached the peak of the Starry Sky Level, the gulf between the Starry Sky Level and the Cosmic Level was immense.
Her only source of pride was that she was still young. She had far more time than the Great Elder to break through her bottleneck.
Still, she respected Great Elder Aaron Rook, a man whose influence was immense. If Aaron Rook could successfully open an internal space of the Spirit Level or, even better, the Dark Level, the Rook family’s standing in the Star Nation of the Ancient Universe would begin to rival that of the Cross family.
But just then, the Eighth Elder, Egan Rook, who was guarding the Divine Tokens, suddenly burst out of the Divine Token Chamber and into the banquet hall in a panic.
The nine elders took turns guarding the Divine Token Chamber, each serving a seven-day shift.
Before leaving on any external missions, every member of the Rook family with the family bloodline, as well as all core personnel, would split off a tiny particle of their Sea of Consciousness. This particle would be placed within a piece of Nourishing God Jade and left to be nurtured inside the Divine Token Chamber.
The Nourishing God Jade could rapidly nurture the severed particle of consciousness, allowing the person it belonged to to absorb energy from the jade and recover quickly.
This was done to ensure the family would not remain unaware if a bloodline member or core personnel encountered a life-threatening crisis while away.
Today was the Great Elder’s birthday banquet, and it was Egan Rook’s turn to guard the Divine Token Chamber. Yet here he was, barging into the banquet hall in a panic.
Led by the Great Elder, everyone’s expression turned cold.
Every member of the Rook family knew what the Divine Token Chamber represented. Seeing the Eighth Elder in such a state, they knew something must have gone terribly wrong.
There were members of other families present as well. While they didn’t know the specifics, they could guess it was no small matter.
"The banquet will continue. Egan, you come with me." After speaking, the Great Elder led Egan Rook to the main seat where the Family Head sat and whispered something in Hailey Rook’s ear.
Hailey Rook’s expression changed instantly. She then stood and left with Aaron Rook and Egan Rook.
