Chapter 452 - 391: Sense of Crisis
Chapter 452: Chapter 391: Sense of Crisis
"Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. You were all willing to trust me and follow me out here to clear Orinburg, so I trust that you’re not content with staying at your current level, right?"
Everyone looked at each other, then turned to look at Flora Bloom, their eyes filled with fighting spirit.
"Of course. Morhaven is free of zombies now, so the sense of crisis has faded for us. Those wild creatures are strong, but for us with superpowers, they aren’t hard to hunt. We don’t have to worry about food."
"Life in Morhaven has become more and more comfortable, but we always feel like something isn’t right!"
As Flora Bloom chatted with the crowd, Quinn, Seth Warren, and Shawn Hale also joined the conversation.
They usually only focused on expanding their own influence and recruiting members with superpowers, but they had never actually thought about how to plan for the future. This was the first time they were hearing the true feelings of the people under them.
"Captain Bloom, we came to Orinburg this time... are we really going to clear the entire city before we go back?" Quinn suddenly asked.
Flora Bloom nodded. "Yes. Are you scared?"
Quinn puffed out his chest. "I, Quinn, am not afraid of this. But Captain Bloom, why did you suddenly decide to clear Orinburg?"
"Yeah, Orinburg is a big place with a lot of zombies. There are bound to be some tough ones among them."
Meanwhile, Five had been buzzing around Cynthia Grant, talking her ear off. Seeing that she was just glaring at him and ignoring him, he got a little discouraged. So, he joined the conversation with Flora Bloom and the others.
"Don’t worry, the purpose of clearing Orinburg this time is to raise our levels. You won’t have to face the tough ones."
"Brother Five, you and Captain Cross are so strong. What was the toughest zombie you’ve ever encountered like? Can you tell us about it?"
"Yeah, the toughest we’ve ever faced was a Level 3 zombie! We ran into one with a bunch of our guys, and only two of us made it back alive after a lot of people died."
"Before Morhaven turned into a forest, we usually just stuck to the outskirts of the suburbs, picking off lone zombies. We never dared to go too deep."
Quinn, who had been silent at the side for a long time, sighed. "The most powerful zombie I ever encountered could control over a thousand regular zombies. It could understand human speech, set up ambushes, and stage sneak attacks.
"Because of it, the superpower team I led back then was almost completely wiped out. Only Amos Rooney, Elara, and I were left."
Flora Bloom knew he was talking about Isla Preston. However, their memories of being controlled by Isla Preston had vanished after the control was lifted.
That’s why their memories of that period were all a blur.
Hearing Quinn’s words, the crowd began to quiet down.
"Captain Lawson, a zombie that powerful exists? What did it look like? If it’s that strong, what chance do we humans have?"
"Yeah, how did you survive? Quick, tell us."
Quinn glanced at Flora Bloom and continued, "Speaking of which, we have Captain Bloom to thank for that. It was Captain Bloom who saved us back then."
All eyes turned to Flora Bloom.
"Captain Bloom, why don’t you tell us all about it?"
Seth Warren and Shawn Hale were also very interested in the topic. Based on what Quinn said, that zombie’s level was definitely not low. They wanted to know just what method Flora Bloom had used to defeat such a powerful zombie.
Seeing everyone’s eager expressions, Flora Bloom spread her hands, then leaned against Lex Cross beside her. "When you reach my level, you’ll be able to handle it too."
"What level was that zombie?"
"A High-level zombie."
Flora Bloom’s answer was blunt; she had no intention of hiding anything. It was better to let these people know about the existence of High-level zombies sooner rather than later, to give them a sense of urgency.
Ignorance would only hasten humanity’s demise.
"What? A High-level zombie?"
"Yes, High-level. They look no different from ordinary people, they have superpowers, and they have the ability to control hordes of zombies. At everyone’s current Superpower Level, if you run into a High-level zombie, all you can do is wait for death."
Flora Bloom’s words successfully made everyone’s expression turn grim. But no one suspected that she was lying to them.
’High-level... High-level zombies already exist, and we haven’t even reached Middle Level superpowers. If there’s more than one or two High-level zombies in the world, and humanity’s levels can’t keep up with the pace of zombie evolution, then won’t there be no place left for us to survive?’
A sense of crisis settled over everyone’s faces and refused to dissipate. In that instant, they seemed to have found their purpose for surviving in the apocalypse.
Even if the world could never return to how it was before, humanity had to fight against the zombies and those terrifying creatures if they wanted to survive.
It was like a competition between different species on Earth, like a turf war.
Whoever was stronger could seize more territory and resources.
Strength!
They had gone from not knowing what they were surviving for to now desperately wanting to increase their strength in order to survive, to live on.
Lex Cross stroked Flora Bloom’s head. "Tired?"
Flora Bloom nodded, finding a comfortable position to lie back in Lex Cross’s arms.
"I’m okay, but my legs are a little sore."
As she got further along in her pregnancy, Flora Bloom noticed that her calves had started to swell recently.
But what made her incredibly happy was that in her past life, by the time she was six or seven months pregnant, she’d already been dealing with backaches, sore legs, and cramps.
But in this life, perhaps because she was eating well and getting balanced nutrition, she had none of that, aside from the swelling in her calves.
"Why don’t you sit out the rest of this? Leave it to us," Lex Cross said, his long fingers gently pressing on Flora Bloom’s calves. A stream of black energy flowed into her legs, creating a tingling numbness that felt very comfortable.
"Wow, I never knew. Your technique is so professional!"
When had Five, Saul Sterling, and the others ever seen Lex Cross lower himself like this, being so gentle and considerate to a woman?
Caleb Bloom and Jade also found a spot to sit down and rest. Everyone was making the most of the break—some drank water, others took a quick nap.
Taking down Orinburg would still require this group to fight for a long time.
Everyone heard Flora Bloom and Lex Cross’s conversation. Quinn and the others looked at Flora Bloom, suddenly feeling intensely guilty about their own petty schemes and little tricks back at the base.
’A woman has such a broad perspective, yet here we are, a bunch of grown men, squabbling over petty things in our own little corner. It’s ridiculous.’
"Captain Bloom, I think Captain Cross is right. Leave the rest to us. You should get some rest."
"Exactly! We’re able-bodied men. Making a pregnant woman worry so much for us... where would we put our pride?!"
Flora Bloom shook her head, amused. "Alright! Once you’ve rested enough, you can start clearing Terminal 2. There are probably only five or six hundred zombies there, but there’s a Level 3 zombie among them. Everyone be careful not to get hurt."
"Understood!"
"Understood!"
Quinn and Seth Warren replied with serious expressions.
But then Shawn Hale suddenly looked conflicted. "Captain Bloom, can I ask you for a favor?"
"Go ahead," Flora Bloom asked, curious. Seeing Shawn Hale glance at Rita and then look all awkward, she had a good idea it had something to do with her.
