Yu Qi scanned the digital menu listing the dishes Qin Xia had selected and found it to be more than generous for the three of them. Realising there was no need for extra food, she nevertheless turned to Long Hui to check if he wanted anything specific.
Long Hui glanced at the list briefly before shaking his head to indicate he was satisfied with the selection.
"You look quite excited." Qin Xia remarked, observing the bright glint in Yu Qi’s eyes.
Yu Qi could not help but chuckle softly.
"You literally just said the exact same thing he did." Yu Qi revealed, gesturing toward her fiancé.
"Hm? What do you mean?" Qin Xia asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Brother Hui told me the exact same thing in the car earlier." Yu Qi explained with a bright smile.
The two men briefly exchanged a quiet, knowing glance without uttering a single word.
"Well, I genuinely am excited to finally meet this elusive ’Master Liang’ face-to-face." Yu Qi admitted openly. "Don’t the two of you feel at least a little curious as well?"
Who on earth gets excited about meeting a dangerous lunatic like that?
For once, both men shared the exact same sceptical thought simultaneously.
"So, what is our operational plan for tonight?" Qin Xia inquired smoothly while taking a bite of his food.
"I am thinking of luring ’Master Liang’ directly into Sere." Yu Qi stated plainly.
"What? Is that truly safe?" Qin Xia frowned, his tone turning cautious.
"I can guarantee it is absolutely safe." Yu Qi nodded with complete confidence.
"Is she telling the truth?" Qin Xia turned his gaze toward Long Hui, seeking verification.
"Mhm." Long Hui confirmed with a firm nod. He then elaborated, "The moment an outsider sets foot in her domain, they lose all ability to harm her. We have already tested and proven this absolute rule."
"I am glad to hear that." Qin Xia nodded before tilting his head curiously. "Who did you bring inside?"
"An evil cultivator. We desperately needed information regarding their upcoming gathering, and I knew that if we did not act immediately, he might slip through our fingers. So, I dragged him into Sere, where Brother Hui performed the Soul Search Method on him." Yu Qi explained calmly.
"So, are you planning to execute the exact same strategy with ’Master Liang’?" Qin Xia inquired.
"We will offer him a chance to answer our questions nicely first. If he refuses to cooperate, then yes, that is the contingency plan." Yu Qi stated.
"Hmm... That works." Qin Xia agreed with a nod.
With dinner finally over, Yu Qi, Long Hui, and Qin Xia were fully prepared to handle the night’s business. Leaving the hotel together, they navigated toward a secluded, dimly lit alleyway entirely free of passersby. Yu Qi carefully surveyed their surroundings to ensure no watchful eyes were nearby before coming to a stop.
Once she confirmed the perimeter was completely clear, she summoned Aoi out from Sere.
"Senior Brother Xia, Aoi is going to cast his concealment skill on you. You will be entirely invisible to the human eye." Yu Qi explained.
"What a fascinating ability." Qin Xia commented, genuinely intrigued.
"Of course! My little cutie is the absolute best." Yu Qi said proudly, patting Aoi’s head affectionately. "Go ahead, Aoi."
Following Yu Qi’s command, Aoi activated his skill on Qin Xia. The man’s silhouette began to shimmer and blur, gradually fading from sight until not a single trace of him remained.
"Is it working?" Qin Xia’s voice echoed from empty air.
"Mhm... You are completely concealed." Yu Qi nodded in satisfaction.
Qin Xia waved his hand in front of his face, unable to catch even the faintest glimpse of his own fingers. He seemed thoroughly entertained by the novelty of the skill.
Aoi then extended the invisibility cloak over himself, Yu Qi, and Long Hui. With everyone completely hidden, Yu Qi glanced around at the empty space, thoroughly satisfied with the setup.
Moments later, Aoi expanded his frame, morphing into his imposing beast form.
"Senior Brother, why don’t you ride on Aoi’s back with us?" Yu Qi called out to the void.
"No need. I will travel using my sword." Qin Xia replied smoothly.
A metallic hum reverberated as he drew his sword and tossed it into the air, where it instantly expanded to a broad, sturdy length. Qin Xia leapt lightly onto the floating blade, soaring up into the night sky.
Yu Qi and Long Hui mounted Aoi’s back. Settling into position, Yu Qi gave Aoi a gentle pat on his side.
"Let’s move." Yu Qi instructed softly.
Aoi bolted forward at incredible speed, his paws soundlessly striking the ground before bounding into the dark sky. Beside them, Qin Xia’s sword cut through the air, keeping pace effortlessly.
The trio travelled high above the city, shrouded in the quiet of the night. Because of Aoi’s invisibility, no one on the streets below could catch sight of the massive beast sprinting through the shadows. Qin Xia was similarly unnoticeable, his flying sword blending seamlessly into the darkness.
Avoiding main thoroughfares, Aoi navigated over sparsely populated terrain, staying clear of heavy traffic and bright city lights. Qin Xia expertly controlled his sword, flying low enough to bypass commercial airspace radars while remaining high enough to stay well clear of tall structures.
Roughly an hour later, they arrived at the outer perimeter of the Shenxie Research Centre.
Yu Qi signalled for them to slow down, perching atop a high vantage point to observe the facility from afar.
Under the cover of night, the surrounding grounds were far quieter than during daytime hours. Most of the administrative staff had departed, leaving the sprawling complex lit only by scattered security floodlights while large sections of the main building remained pitch-black.
