Chapter 2805: Sneak Back To The Shenxie Research Centre
Chapter 2805: Chapter 2805: Sneak Back To The Shenxie Research Centre
Aoi instantly sprang into action.
With their invisible mode fully engaged, Aoi swiftly carried them through the streets back toward the Shenxie Research Centre. Because ordinary people could neither see nor hear them, they did not have to worry about drawing any attention along the way.
Before long, they arrived back at the perimeter of the Shenxie Research Centre.
Yu Qi immediately summoned Xiaohua and Xiaoliu out of the Sere. Aoi, however, showed no intention of returning to the space. He clearly wanted to remain by his master’s side to protect her.
"Do you want to stay outside with us as well?" Yu Qi asked, patting his soft fur.
Aoi nodded enthusiastically, wagging his tail.
"Alright, you can tag along." Yu Qi agreed with a warm smile.
Concealed beneath their cloak of invisibility, the group boldly strode right through the main doors of the Shenxie Research Centre. Because no one could see them, they did not have to worry about being spotted or stopped by the security guards or visitors milling about.
As for bypassing the electronic security locks required to access the restricted zones, they had Neko-chan. Neko-chan had already breached the research centre’s internal network with ease. She could unlock any security door remotely, and so far, the local network administrators had not noticed any trace of infiltration.
"Master, I have successfully unlocked the route ahead," Neko-chan reported through Yu Qi’s earpiece.
"Good job, Neko-chan." Yu Qi praised softly.
"Leave everything to me, Master!" Neko-chan replied proudly, puffing out her chest on the screen.
Their progress through the upper level went smoothly.
Yu Qi, Long Hui, Xiaohua, Xiaoliu, and Aoi soon arrived at the hidden entrance to the subterranean facility that Bo Ya had located earlier.
Yu Qi carefully inspected the reinforced door before her.
"This should be it." Yu Qi murmured.
Long Hui gave a firm nod.
Yu Qi reached out, touched the handle, and pushed the heavy door open.
The moment it swung inward, a steep staircase extending deep into the shadows was revealed.
"So, this is the secret entrance." Long Hui stated, his eyes scanning the gloom.
"Hmm..." Yu Qi nodded in agreement.
They stepped through the doorway and began their descent down the long flight of stairs. The deeper they ventured, the colder and crisper the ambient air became.
The staircase extended much farther underground than Yu Qi had initially anticipated. It took them nearly fifteen minutes of continuous walking to finally reach the bottom landing. When they stepped off the final step, Yu Qi looked around the space in genuine surprise. The underground facility was far more expansive than she had pictured.
The entire subterranean structure had been built with meticulous precision and immense resources. The walls were heavily reinforced with military-grade materials, the polished floors were spotless, and the advanced LED lighting system functioned flawlessly despite being built deep beneath the earth.
"This place is surprisingly impressive." Long Hui commented, his sharp, vigilant gaze sweeping over their new surroundings.
"It is definitely not an ordinary underground research lab." Yu Qi replied softly.
She narrowed her eyes, sensing a faint, unsettling shift in the atmosphere. The deeper they penetrated into the corridors, the stronger that strange, foreboding intuition became.
Whatever was hidden beneath the Shenxie Research Centre, it was clearly something the organisation had expended an astronomical amount of effort and resources to hide from the world.
The group continued deeper into the underground facility. Unlike the previous underground complex they had encountered on Blackstone Island, this place was surprisingly clean and orderly. There was no abandoned equipment, scattered documents, or any sign of a hurried evacuation. Everything seemed to be operating normally, which made Yu Qi even more cautious.
They suddenly heard faint footsteps coming from the corridor ahead, and everyone immediately stopped in their tracks. The footsteps were getting closer.
Yu Qi quickly activated her special eyesight and looked directly through the thick walls.
Several people were walking toward them. They were wearing white laboratory coats, and two security guards were accompanying them.
"They are researchers." Yu Qi said quietly.
"How many?" Long Hui asked.
"Six researchers and two guards." Yu Qi answered.
"Let’s move aside and give them enough room to pass us." Long Hui said softly.
Xiaohua and Xiaoliu immediately used their sturdy branches to attach themselves securely to the ceiling. They then extended their branches downward and carefully picked up Yu Qi, Long Hui, and Aoi, lifting them completely off the ground.
A few seconds later, the group of researchers walked past. None of them noticed the invisible group hanging quietly above them.
"How are the results?" One of the researchers asked, checking his tablet.
"Still unstable. The subject’s spiritual energy keeps fluctuating wildly." Another researcher answered with a tired sigh.
"Again?" Someone replied.
"Hmm. The last three subjects suffered from the exact same problem." The first researcher said, shaking his head.
Yu Qi’s expression immediately changed, and she exchanged a meaningful glance with Long Hui.
Spiritual energy.
That single phrase confirmed their core suspicion. This facility was definitely connected to the cultivation world.
"Did Professor Shen approve another round of energy infusion?" Another researcher asked as they walked.
"He did. He explicitly said we cannot stop now." The first researcher replied.
"Even though the failure rate is so high?" Another asked.
"We don’t have a choice in the matter. The higher-ups want results." The researcher sighed heavily.
The group continued walking down the hallway. Yu Qi waited until their footsteps were far enough away before speaking.
"Let me know when it’s clear... alright, let’s get down." Yu Qi stated.
Xiaohua and Xiaoliu carefully lowered everyone back onto the clean floor.
"Did you hear that?" Yu Qi whispered.
"Yes." Long Hui’s expression became solemn. "They are actively conducting human experiments involving spiritual energy."
