Yu Qi asked casually while slowly swirling the warm tea in her cup, her sharp eyes scanning the faces of her team.
"I have not even stepped outside the laboratory walls for the past two weeks, so I know absolutely nothing about the outside world right now." Dian Yi Qihan shrugged helplessly, his pale, exhausted face making him look half-dead already from sleep deprivation.
"Same here. I think I have practically built a permanent nest for myself inside Sector 4 at this point." Teng Li chimed in immediately, tossing a piece of mushroom into the boiling broth.
"Wait..." Deng Jianguo, who had been quietly eating in complete, focused silence until now, suddenly raised his head. His expression instantly turned incredibly sour. "I think I might actually know who you are talking about. Can you describe what she looked like?"
Everyone at the table immediately paused their movements, chopsticks hovering mid-air, and turned to look at him with deep curiosity.
"She had long brown hair and was around average height," Yu Qi paused briefly, narrowing her sharp eyes slightly as she carefully recalled the fleeting details of the encounter. "But the most distinctive thing about her was the doll hanging from her bag. That recently popular, creepy-cute plush doll everyone seems completely obsessed with lately. I do not know its exact name, though."
"Oh..." Deng Jianguo immediately pinched the bridge of his nose tiredly, squeezing his eyes shut as if a massive, agonising headache had just descended upon him. "If it is really her, then yes, I know exactly who she is."
He let out a long, defeated sigh that seemed to drain the remaining energy from his body.
"She is a stalker." Deng Jianguo stated.
The entire table froze in absolute shock, and a collective gasp immediately echoed throughout the private room, breaking the comfortable rhythm of the dinner.
"A stalker?!" Mo Huizhong was naturally the very first one to react. He slammed his hand dramatically against the wooden table, making the dipping sauce bowls rattle. "Since when did a nerdy, socially awkward guy like you manage to get yourself a stalker? More importantly, tell us, is she cute?"
"That is very obviously not the main focus of a dangerous harassment situation right now, you complete idiot." Zhao Yongzhung rolled his eyes so hard that he almost looked physically pained by his colleague’s utter lack of tact.
"I first met her around three weeks ago during that regional technology conference." Deng Jianguo finally began explaining, his voice filled with obvious, heavy regret. "At that time, she was sitting all alone in a dark corner of the lobby, crying hysterically while staring at her laptop screen. Since I am obviously a kind-hearted and upstanding person, I walked over and asked her what had happened."
"You are praising your own character far too much, Jianguo." Hu Tingfeng commented dryly from across the table, dipping a slice of wagyu beef.
Deng Jianguo completely ignored the cynical interruption and continued speaking, his tone turning increasingly exasperated.
"She told me that a very important, core document for her graduation thesis had suddenly vanished from her hard drive. So, I took a look at her system and helped her recover the corrupted file. After I successfully restored the document, she immediately asked for my personal contact information and practically begged for it on her knees. She even insisted that she wanted to repay my kindness properly by treating me to an expensive meal."
"I repeatedly told her there was absolutely no need for that and left shortly afterward. However, even until today, I still have no earthly idea how she somehow managed to bypass my strict privacy settings and obtain my actual private phone number."
Deng Jianguo looked genuinely traumatised as he continued.
"After that day, she started contacting me nonstop, day and night. She sent dozens of unhinged messages every single day. In the end, I became so thoroughly annoyed and overwhelmed that I simply blocked her entirely and turned off that specific phone line."
He rubbed his forehead tiredly, looking completely worn down by the ordeal, before continuing.
"She probably used my public academic credentials to figure out exactly where I work and started trying to ambush me here instead. Apparently, according to what the front desk staff told me, she even claimed to the security guards that she was my long-term, devoted girlfriend and demanded to be allowed inside to see me."
"I immediately clarified to the security team that I absolutely do not have a girlfriend, nor do I ever want one, and told them to deal with her however they saw fit." Deng Jianguo finished the bizarre story, looking completely helpless as the table erupted into a mix of laughter and sympathy.
The moment he finished speaking, the entire table erupted into a chaotic mixture of loud laughter, mocking sympathy, and utter disbelief.
"Why do you not just accept her feelings? You have been single for ages anyway!" Mo Huizhong asked shamelessly between bursts of boisterous laughter.
"I am not completely insane. Why would I casually accept a relationship with someone unstable like that?" Deng Jianguo rolled his eyes speechlessly.
"Jokes aside, we cannot allow her to continue lingering around the research facility." Yu Qi’s expression gradually shifted, becoming cold and serious.
