Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 95 - 87: She Is the Light

Chapter 95: Chapter 87: She Is the Light

Wen Jianshu’s gaze was also fixed on the young pair in the center of the dance floor.

Qin Ling was an unfathomable man. On the surface, he was young, handsome, and held a high position.

In reality, only the people who now sat at the same table as him knew just how many things he had done—whether in the light or in the dark—to secure his current position.

That young man was utterly ruthless.

In truth, Wen Jianshu didn’t believe that the Wen and Li Families joining forces would be enough to contend with the Qin Family’s sole dominance.

Perhaps it was possible now, but it would be absolutely impossible in the future.

He could assert this just based on the caliber of the younger generation in the Wen and Li Families.

Most importantly, Qin Ling had only stepped into the spotlight less than a year ago. No one could gauge his terrifying rate of growth.

It was imperative to forge a closer connection with the Qin Family. An adversarial relationship like their current one was out of the question. This was a point on which Wen Jianshu and Li Xian were in complete agreement.

Unfortunately, despite searching high and low within their two families, they hadn’t found anyone suitable enough to be a match for Qin Ling.

But now...

Wen Jianshu and Li Xian had once been young men themselves. Men of their age understood other men best.

The deep affection in Qin Ling’s eyes was about to spill over. They, who met him at the same table almost every day, had never seen such a gentle expression on his face.

Wen Jianshu understood what Li Xian was implying. If Qin Ling and Tang Mo were to get together, the relationship between the Qin and Wen families would become inseparable.

"Li, we should settle things between Wen Ze and Song Qing. As long as your Song Qing agrees, I can personally approve the match."

Wen Jianshu gave Li Xian his promise.

If the Qin and Wen Families solidified their relationship, and the Wen Family then formed a marriage alliance with the Li Family, the Alliance’s triangle would become an unbreakable one. This was the outcome everyone was hoping for.

"With an offer this good, how could that girl Song Qing possibly refuse? Come, Jianshu, let’s drink!" Li Xian couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Wen Jianshu’s promise was a sign of the Wen Family’s resolve to never abandon the Li Family, no matter what the future held.

This was the reassurance Li Xian needed, so how could he not be pleased? He raised his glass to Wen Jianshu and drank deeply.

Over on the dance floor, the song ended. Qin Ling and Tang Mo finally stopped, stepping back half a pace and bowing slightly to each other to conclude the dance.

Then, Qin Ling took another step forward and pulled Tang Mo tightly into his arms.

He had wanted to do this from the first moment he saw her tonight.

He used to think that Tang Mo only shone so brightly in his eyes, that he was the only one who saw how perfect she was in every way.

Today, Qin Ling realized he was wrong. It wasn’t that his feelings for her were some filter that made her glow; Tang Mo herself was the light.

Her light might not be bright enough for the whole world to see just yet, but sooner or later, it would be dazzling, as radiant as the stars.

’This won’t do. I have to marry her and bring her home soon. Only then will I feel secure.’

"Qin Ling?"

The embrace was lasting a bit too long. The crowd on the dance floor was already dispersing, and Tang Mo gently pushed at Qin Ling, who was still resting his head on her shoulder.

"If only I could hold you like this forever," Qin Ling mumbled.

"That day will come," Tang Mo replied. ’So we both have to work hard to become stronger.’

By the time Tang Mo returned to Wen Jianshu’s side, she had already shaken off a pouting Qin Ling.

Wen Jianshu was chatting with the most prestigious and accomplished professor from the research institute.

Even a man of Wen Jianshu’s status showed the utmost respect for a professor who had made such contributions to all of humanity.

"Tang Mo?" The professor, who was in the middle of their conversation, saw her approaching, his eyes filling with excitement.

He had only patiently chatted with Wen Jianshu for so long because he had heard about Tang Mo’s relationship with him.

Otherwise, he would have been completely unwilling to waste time talking to these higher-ups. He would much rather spend the time discussing his latest research findings with someone who understood the subject.

"Professor Tian?" Tang Mo was both surprised and delighted to see him here. She thought a scholar like Professor Tian would never attend a ball.

In truth, Professor Tian had been extremely reluctant to attend. However, far too many people were curious about him and wanted to make his acquaintance. Wen Jianshu had been unable to refuse them and, after much persuasion, had finally convinced the professor to come.

"You two know each other?"

Wen Jianshu had no idea. ’Tang Mo knows Professor Tian?’

’Then again, Professor Tian was originally from T University. If I remember correctly, Momo was a student there, wasn’t she?’

"I only made it to S Base alive thanks to Tang Mo. If you ask me, half the credit for my research findings belongs to her!"

As Professor Tian spoke of the help Tang Mo had given him, his face flushed red with excitement.

If it weren’t for Tang Mo, he and his two children would have likely died, either at the university or on the road to S Base.

The way Wen Jianshu looked at Tang Mo completely changed. ’No wonder,’ he thought. ’Professor Tian is usually so dismissive of me, yet today he was willing to humor me. It was all thanks to Momo!’

’Everyone said Lin Yi married up, but now I feel like I’m the one who got the better end of the deal, gaining such a capable daughter.’

"Professor Tian, you’re exaggerating. I only did what any student would do for a teacher they respect."

’I’ve heard the question "You two know each other?" far too many times today.’

’How is S Base so small?’

’For someone like me, who’s spent all her time wandering the wilds, to run into so many acquaintances here...’

However, a moment later, Tang Mo realized she had spoken too soon. The number of people she knew here went far beyond those she had already seen.

Having greeted everyone she needed to, Tang Mo began looking around for Song Qing again. ’This place is so boring. It’s much more interesting to stick with people I know.’

But when she found Song Qing, she saw a man hovering by her side, chattering away about something.

The displeasure on Song Qing’s face was obvious. Tang Mo picked up her glass and walked over.

When Tang Mo got a clear look at the man’s face, she realized who it was. ’Heh, another acquaintance. An Yang.’

"Long time no see, An Yang."

Tang Mo said, taking Song Qing’s arm.

"Ah, Tang Mo. You’ve been doing well lately, I trust."

Seeing who it was, An Yang immediately plastered on a proper smile. If Tang Mo wasn’t mistaken, she could detect a hint of... ’sycophancy?’ in his tone.

’Yes, that’s it. By now, everyone must know that I’m Wen Jianshu’s stepdaughter.’

’It seems his sycophantic nature hasn’t changed a bit. In fact, it might have even gotten worse.’

"An Yang, there’s nothing between us anymore. You’re officially with Wenqing now, so what are you doing here bothering me? Aren’t you afraid your girlfriend will get the wrong idea?"

Song Qing said with disgust.

Tang Mo wasn’t a stranger, and she just couldn’t take it anymore.

’An Yang and Wenqing are officially together?’

’What’s going on? Didn’t they break up back at the university?’

Tang Mo’s mind was filled with questions.
