Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 479: Qin Ling Is Back

It’s impossible to receive any messages on the ID Watch while in the Illusion World, not even high-priority alerts.

So, for all this time, Qin Ling had no idea what was happening in the outside world.

The moment he completed his mission and stepped through the gate, his ID Watch suddenly seemed to regain its signal, and messages came flooding in with a crackle.

He landed hard on the snow, but Qin Ling didn’t feel any pain. He even laughed.

Because he had just seen the pinned message on his watch: the Space Pearl had been obtained.

He didn’t even have to guess. Qin Ling knew it had to be Momo. Momo had successfully completed her missions in three worlds.

But more than the joy of obtaining the Space Pearl, what truly made Qin Ling happy was that this message confirmed Momo was now safe and back at the base.

Qin Ling had been in the Illusion World for too long. He had also just missed Tang Mo the last time he returned from a mission. It had been far too long since they had last seen each other.

The thought of seeing Momo soon made Qin Ling so excited he didn’t even bother to get up.

But his excitement didn’t last long. Qin Ling suddenly found himself being lifted up.

And then carried away at high speed…

“Hey! What are you guys doing?!”

Qin Ling saw that beneath him were Lao San and a few of his other brothers who had stayed behind in the protected zone.

“No need to be in such a hurry. I just got back; I’m not leaving again so soon.”

Qin Ling assumed that since his brothers hadn’t seen him in a long time, this was just their way of expressing how much they missed him.

‘As expected of a man with a wife,’ Lao San thought. ‘He’s starting to get so sappy.’

“Boss, you have to hang in there.”

Lao San and the others had been staring out at the snow day and night, waiting for this very moment. The second they saw Qin Ling land, they immediately rushed out to carry him back.

Someone who had just come out of the Illusion World would definitely need a moment to recover; they couldn’t move very fast.

And they didn’t want to wait a single second longer.

Seeing that the man on his shoulders seemed to be in a wonderful mood, Lao San decided to give Qin Ling a little warning.

“Hang in there for what?”

Qin Ling felt that something was wrong. Seeing the looks on the faces of Lao San and his other brothers, a sense of unease grew within him.

But the people at the edge of the protected zone who saw him appear were clearly ecstatic, with many even dancing and cheering for joy.

It was a stark contrast to Lao San and the others.

‘What exactly went wrong?’

“Boss, just wait a little longer. We’re almost there.”

There were simply too many onlookers. It wasn’t a convenient place to explain; it was best to wait until Qin Ling saw her.

Qin Ling knew this wasn’t the right time to talk, so he fell silent. But the joy slowly drained from his face, replaced by a grim expression.

The tent for Lin Yi and the others had been planned out by Tang Mo long ago, situated in an isolated spot at the edge of the protected zone.

The area was already large, and it had become even more spacious and empty as the number of people in the protected zone dwindled.

Especially after Tang Mo’s accident, the Sect Leader had dispatched several people with strong Spiritual Abilities to stand guard here day and night, creating a separate, isolated pocket within the protected zone.

Just like that, Lao San and his men carried Qin Ling all the way to where Tang Mo was.

By this time, the Sect Leader, Lin Yu, Wen Jianshu, and Lin Yi had already received the news and were waiting off to the side.

Xiao Tao was in Lin Yu’s tent with the two children, keeping them occupied. The children were too young; there was no need for them to know about certain things.

Qin Ling saw the group of people connected to Momo standing by the tent, every one of them looking haggard and worn. His unease reached its peak.

With a push of his legs, Qin Ling flipped himself off their shoulders and landed on the ground.

“What happened to Momo?”

These were the first words Qin Ling spoke after returning to the protected zone.

Seeing this scene, if he still didn’t understand that something had happened to Momo, then he’d have lived all these years for nothing.

“Let’s talk inside the tent.”

Wen Jianshu, being the senior figure there, was the one who spoke to Qin Ling.

Qin Ling’s expression was so cold it could have frozen water. He followed Wen Jianshu into the tent.

Meanwhile, Lao San and his men stood guard at the entrance like sentries.

‘The boss is finally back.’

With the boss’s wife in trouble and the boss himself away, Lao San had actually been under immense pressure.

He had been terrified that she wouldn’t hold on until the boss returned. Although her injury had nothing to do with him, he truly wouldn’t have been able to face the boss if the worst had happened.

Now that the boss was finally back, and she would soon be waking up, Lao San could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

This period had truly been difficult for everyone.

Inside the tent, the Sect Leader recounted everything to Qin Ling in painstaking detail: from Tang Mo’s return from the Illusion World, to her injury while merging with the Space Pearl, and finally, all the efforts they had made and the solution they had devised.

Upon hearing that Momo’s entire sea of consciousness had been destroyed after she merged with the bead, Qin Ling’s fists, clenched at his sides, were so tight that the veins on his wrists bulged.

The destruction of a sea of consciousness… Qin Ling knew all too well what an irreversible injury that was, and what kind of agony one would have to endure.

But as he listened on, hearing the Sect Leader explain the solution they had come up with—that there was a ninety percent chance of saving Momo by using the Agility Pearl inside his body—Qin Ling slowly let out a breath of relief.

‘As long as there’s a way, that’s all that matters,’ he thought. ‘Never mind ninety percent; even if it were ten percent, or even a one percent chance, I would still save Momo.’

As for using the Agility Pearl within his body, Qin Ling didn’t even give it a second thought.

He would give Momo anything he had. What was one lousy bead in comparison?

Watching the gradual change in Qin Ling’s expression, the Sect Leader and the others exchanged a look. At this moment, they all understood what choice Qin Ling would make.

While the others might have had to ponder the decision, for Qin Ling, the choice was subconscious.

Perhaps it was more accurate to say that Qin Ling had never even considered the possibility of giving up on Momo, no matter the cost.

Seeing Qin Ling’s unwavering resolve, the Sect Leader actually felt even more at ease.

If Qin Ling’s feelings were truly this sincere, then the chances of him being rejected by Tang Mo’s spiritual power were that much lower.

After all, when one party’s energy was one hundred percent benevolent, the other party would be able to sense it.

Wen Jianshu, the Sect Leader, and Lin Yu quietly exchanged a look, and the atmosphere began to relax.

Then, the Sect Leader began to tell Qin Ling about the results of their research on the instruction manual over the past few days.

They had spent days and nights poring over the instructions related to the Five Beads fusion, trying to see if they could find any other possibilities for Tang Mo.

But even after studying the detailed explanations to the point where they could recite them word-for-word, they still hadn’t found any other viable methods.

They proposed one plan only to reject it, then proposed another, and rejected that one too, and so on, right up until now.

There was truly only one way to save Tang Mo. Of that, they were certain.
